Is native to South Siberia (Irkutsk Region, Buryatiya, Tuva, Khakassia, Krasnoyarsk Territory), Mongolia and Inner Mongolia. ⠀ Although this Pulsatilla is quite common on Lake Baikal, I have never seen it bloom in June, when it blooms normally, only in fruits or during secondary flowering in August or September. ⠀ Прострел тонколопастной – один из самых редких в Сибири. I loved seeing these beautiful Primroses (Primula Vulgaris) by lock 21 on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal in Uppermill, which were planted by the UCAN Towpath Adoption Group. Here are some fun facts about these beautiful and interesting flowers: They are a native plant to Britain; found in woods, at the base of hedgerows and in grasslands. They can bloom as early as late December and flower until May. The flowers provide a valuable nectar source for pollinators such as butterflies. The outlook for this flower as global warming advances is not favourable, as they thrive in moist but well-drained soil in light shade. The name derives from the Latin prima rosa meaning first rose of the year, due to the fact that they begin to flower early in the year and their appearance signifies that Spring is on the way. Vulgaris means common in the sense of being widespread. April 19th is Primrose day. This date is the anniversary of the death of the former British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli and the primrose was his favourite flower. Primroses are the county flower of Devon. It is worth knowing that primroses are also edible. They can be a decorative element to your cakes; crystallised primrose flowers make beautiful decorations. Primrose leaves are also edible and can be used in salads, the flavour ranging between mild lettuce and more bitter salad greens. The leaves can also be used for tea, and the young flowers can be made into primrose wine. To prevent excessive damage to the species, picking of primroses or the removal of primrose plants from the wild is illegal in many countries.
