Yesterday, I was watching Revolutionary Road, which seemed at first the film that will tell you, get out of that monotonous lifestyle dont live for the sake of just breathing, live like you meant it. dont merely survive, but live, really live. Well, it was. For a moment, it was telling that thing. It was urging you to get the hell out of monotony. Tell me, there are people who understands that theyre not living to their fullest potential. They realize one point or another, that theyre letting life pass them by while theyre just standing there like a bystander feeling hopeless. So one fine day, they decided, Thats It. No more giving up to the monotony. Ill sit in the drivers seat and Ill drive wherever I want to go. I will not give in to autopilot. This is good, isnt it? But tell me, when youre in a shared car in a really crowded area, where people just keep telling you how irrational it is of you to drive like you want. Even when you feel, well no, who cares! Its my life, Ill lead it as I want. The person sitting with you in suddenly convinced by the crowd. What do you do then? Ive seen films where people break the monotony and live like they have always wanted to. But what happens to the people who dont get to? Who comes this close to fulfilling their dreams, and suddenly change of plans, because hey! Too much traffic, they wont let our car go. What happens to the dreamers who have lost their dream in expectations? What happens who the drivers to have lost their cars to the traffic? Do they get a chance of revolution? Or Revolutionary Road just becomes another destinations name that is just stuck nowhere to go. Revolutionary Road tells about those, who tried but couldnt drive their own car because the traffic made them stuck. I started this page five years back to write. To just write. As I started watching other influencers making it big on Instagram, I started getting greedy. I did not want to just write anymore, I wanted fame, make money out of my passion. And while doing that I forgot why I started writing in the first place. I started writing for making money and not for the joy it bought me. I started posting for likes and to get followers. I started doing it for the numbers! It was after years I realised that my passion of writing left behind in the journey of making money. The relief which writing bought me got replaced by shallowness and anxiety of getting more numbers. I did not feel the joy anymore. I missed feeling joyful. I missed writing. I now understand that it takes guts and immense courage to do what you were set out to do. It takes a spine to not the world change you. It takes contentment to see what you are good at and continue to be good at it. It takes a lot more to be truthful to who you are and your work, passion or interest than to get millions of followers. When I write this, my 500th post, I write it as a promise to myself. To just keep on writing because I love to write. To write just for the joy it brings me, the joy it brings to the few people who read it, to leave a part of me behind everytime I put my thoughts into words. So tell me, how many men have gotten their hands inside your ribs and taken you apart. Where did they touch you? At your workplace/in the bus/on the road. NO, BUT WHERE DID THEY TOUCH YOU? Come and join the sad girls club and lets drink tea over statistics of a woman being raped every 7 mins and thank god we arent one of them. Yet. Rejoice at barely surviving. I am angry and I wear it proudly, etched on my bra strap and over the pads I buy . It is not to be wrapped inside black polythenes and white newspapers; or to be pushed out of sight on the clothes line so that people, from the glass windows of their glass houses, dont throw stones at a girls fragile chastity My anger is stepping out of thatched huts and bricked houses alike, stripping off all the labels that say only men can be angry.
