How cute is this animal? When hiking in steep talus slopes of the park, you may hear high-pitched squeaks among the rocks. That would be the pika. Pika are the cutest of all the cute animals and, although they look like rodents, they are in the order Lagomorpha and are closely related to the rabbit. You may see pika scurrying about with a mouth full of grass. Pikas don’t hibernate and need to prepare for the winter. During the summer, they will collect grasses and other materials to store over the winter for food. Forget farmer wants a wife, this farmer wanted a tailor! 🤣🤣 Our monitoring staff met farmer-turned-fisher Matt last year on Fraser Island. With a beard grown just for the trip and a full outfit supplied by his mates, Matt traded the farm for a family holiday at the beach. Fantastic to be back in South Australia! My daughter Lily and I got to meet some of the amazing people and animals at the Adelaide Zoo today, including Lara the Quokka. Adelaide Zoo has received over $337,000 from our zoos’ support package to ensure their animals are well cared for during this #COVID19 pandemic. It was encouraging to hear the zoo has seen a good increase in visitors as restrictions have been easing, hopefully this continues with the recent border changes allowing more visitors from NSW and ACT. Lily wants to be a vet at a zoo when she grows up, and she certainly seemed quite at home today. - @scottmorrisonmp on Instagram
