Three years ago I was on the way back from one of the most epic road trips in my life. We drove more than 4,000 miles from the Mexican border in San Diego to the Canadian border in Montana. During this time I experimented with perspective and some photos were good ... others were absolutely terrible. The important thing though was that this wasnt a sponsored trip so I had the time to be creative and try new things. Exploring new perspectives is critical and I encourage everyone to take a break, try something new, explore options, challenge what they see as normal and create new ways of looking at the world. For instance, this photo of Yaquina Head Lighthouse I took from the mound of grass in the middle of the parking area while everyone else took photos at eye level as they walked towards the lighthouse. Instead of an image filled with people, I was able to create my own experience of solitude and beauty that makes me want to go back there again. Try this with your own life too. A bitter cold southerly wind meant I was wrapped up in layers of warm winter clothing last night. The sun was still catching the side of the lighthouse but in the shade perched high on a ledge it was freezing cold. Later, as I walked back down from the lighthouse to the car, a couple asked me to take their photo with their own phone. They had been taking selfies for a long while before I stopped to help them, and all I could think about, was that they had taken their sweatshirts off to get better photos in their T-shirts. I guess sometimes the stars (and comets) do magically align perfectly. Ive been planning on going to Little Sable Lighthouse for over 4 months. I was going to go a couple other times but between COVID and the weather it hasnt been possible. But, yesterday/last night my wishes FINALLY came to true! I got everything I wanted and more. Comet #neowise graced me with its glorious presence!! Since Im so impatient and didnt want to wait 6800 years for NEOWISE to return. So, obviously it was time!:) If you have not gone out and seen it I very highly recommend it. I realized that I never shared the story of how we met. We’re celebrating twelve years together this October so I couldn’t think of a better time. I had just started college in Central NY and was determined not to date until after school so I could focus on my studies. Then came a phone call from my mother’s cousin’s wife who lived in the area (and who happens to be Matthew’s aunt. I know, it’s a lot to think about, but I promise we’re not related 😂). She was setting me up on a “tour of the area” with her nephew and “he’s cuuute.” Uh oh, a match making scheme. “By the way, I gave him your number and he is picking you up on Friday.” Meanwhile she had pulled the same trick on Matt. You can’t say no to Aunt Kathy. We connected right away, talking for hours. First on our tour of Franklin Square with hot cocoa, through Syracuse and the university, and then we tried a museum that was closed so we went out for dinner instead. We both shared an interest in rollerblading so he let me borrow his sister’s skates and he literally fell head over heels backwards while he was skating backwards to talk with me. I was paying too much attention to him to warn him about the pothole. On our way back to my dorm we picked up his best friend Corey and instead of a goodbye we ended up going out bowling where Matt tricked me into holding his hand (a story for another time). There was a hug goodbye at my dorm door at midnight. It was a very lengthy date and now we joke that it was the date that never ended. We’re still on it 12 years later. By the time I made it to my room I had a text that read, “You have the most beautiful smile. Este faro fue contruido en 1900 e instalado en 1921 en la Reserva Natural - Punta Coles, al sur del puerto de Ilo (región de Moquegua). Fue recien en 1973 que em faro fue removido a Lima e instalado en el parque Raimondi en el malecón de Miraflores más conocido por sus famosos atardecer, jardines bien cuidados y una hermosa vista al mar. ⠀ El Faro La Marina tiene 22 metros de altura y hecho de hierro fundido es una parada obligada si visitas. ⠀ Dato anecdótico 😅 Cuenta la leyenda que esta obra fue realizai por Gustavo Eiffel​, famoso ingeniero civil francés conocí por la torre que lleva su nombre en París. 🇵🇹 Durante nuestros viajes hemos visto volcanes 🌋 , glaciares, desiertos 🏜 , cascadas enormes y montañas tan grandes que su punto más alto se escondía entre las nubes 🏔, pero la naturaleza sigue sorprendiéndonos en cada viaje como en este Faro de Oporto donde vimos como olas gigantes 😱 chocaban contra él. • ✴ Era tan fascinante ver ese espectáculo de la naturaleza que nos quedamos aquí embobados bajo una discreta lluvia un par de horas. En el momento de esta foto la marea estaba alta y por nuestra seguridad los vigilantes de la playa no nos permitían avanzar más adelante 🙅♂️, porque algunas olas engullían por segundos parte del camino. • ❓ ¿Os gusta ver este tipo de fenómenos de la naturaleza u os dan tanto miedo que preferís verlos por TV? • ℹ Este faro se encuentra en Foz do Douro, uno de los barrios más exclusivos de Oporto 🤑y a tan solo 20 minutos en tranvía desde el centro de la ciudad. Another Milky Way cycle has come to a close. Maybe next month the clouds will stay away. Tonight I headed up to the Midcoast region in Maine, to capture the Milky Way over a lighthouse or two. Stop number one was a dud, Marshall Point in Port Clyde. The clouds just never seemed to want to slide on out. Ok, it was worth the shot. As I was driving down Route 1 on my way here to Pemaquid, I was able to see the setting of the crescent moon, I was like all smiles now, maybe Pemaquid will actually be clear. На севере Дании вот уже 116 лет стоит маяк Рубьерг Кнуд. Вся его история — борьба со стихией, но море тут ни при чём. Главной опасностью для маяка стал ветер. Он приносит песок с утёса и засыпает башню и несколько зданий вокруг неё. Местные власти предприняли несколько попыток спасти маяк. По их указу местность вокруг засеяли травой и кустарником, а возле построек поставили деревянные заборы необычной формы. Это не помогло. С годами песка вокруг становилось всё больше. Дошло до того, что песчаная дюна преградила путь свету от маяка. В начале августа 1968 года власти сдались. Ветер оказался сильнее. Вокруг маяка появились горы песка, содержать его стало слишком дорого. Он перестал работать, зато превратился в популярную достопримечательность. Одно время в хозяйственных зданиях рядом с башней даже работала экспозиция для туристов и кафе. Так было до 2002 года, после чего использовать помещения стало невозможно. В результате было принято решение передвинуть его на 70 метров вглубь побережья. Для этого датские строители поставили 720-тонное сооружение на рельсы. Работа заняла около девяти часов.  Теперь по прогнозам он простоит ещё 40 лет. Its #NationalLighthouseDay Bodie Island Lighthouse was built in 1872 and stands 170 feet tall, boasting 214 steps. It is the third Bodie Island Lighthouse, both previous lighthouses stood in an area now underwater. Its pronounced body and is part of the @capehatterasnps Cape Hatteras Lighthouse has 257 steps, and a climbing hate equal to a 12 story building. It is the second lighthouse of its name, the first having been destroyed during the Civil War. The lighthouse begin service in December 1871. In 1999 the lighthouse was moved from its original location some 2900 feet inland, as ocean erosion had left just 15 feet of sure between the lighthouse and the water. Currituck Beach Lighthouse in Corolla Village is a first order lighthouse, meaning it has the largest of seven Fresnel lenses. It flashes on for 3 seconds and off for 17 seconds and can be seen for 18 nautical miles. Its on painted red brick exterior helps distinguish it visually from other lighthouses in the area. It posts and impressive 220 steps with the height of 158 feet to the lens with walls almost 6 feet thick at the base and roughly 3 feet thick near the lens. AND THE AWARD GOES TO ... In 2001 I stumbled across a simple little video called Turning Point produced by Nu Skin. It simply compared a lighthouse to dedicated individuals who shine bright becoming a turning point or a light to others. This light helps other to make a change or embrace a turning point which inevitably makes all the difference for living a better more abundantly joyful life. Since my discovery I have selected a few individuals each year that have exhibited these qualities and have truly made a difference in the lives of others to receive the “Lighthouse Award”. These recipients have mostly been students form the high schools in which I have taught or where I was a principal. On occasion, I have awarded the honor to a few adults that have made the world a better place by shining brightly while keeping so many away from the rocky shores guiding the way to safe harbors. Just two nights ago I had the special honor to award my niece Amanda Mendelson with this honor. She is an amazing person and has lifted so many. At the end of this special Sunday which started with the passing of my Father, Crae Wilson, I could think of no greater honor from my heart than to bestow a special “Lighthouse Award” to my hero, my dad, my light of kindly love and guidance. I know he has been the bright catalyst for so many turning points for so many years. It simply is humbling to see the countless comments and expressions of love from so many. The world will no longer view his light from the safe shore but the impact he has had will continue to brighten lives and instill in others the desire to share their light becoming a turning point for someone else. Lovely bike ride to souter lighthouse with the wonderful ND❤️ The lighthouse is located on Lizard Point, but takes its name from Souter Point, which is located a mile to the south. This was the intended site for the lighthouse, but it was felt that Lizard Point offered better visibility, as the cliffs there are higher, so the lighthouse was built there instead. The Souter Lighthouse name was retained in order to avoid confusion with the then recently-built Lizard Lighthouse in Cornwall. Souter Lighthouse is approximately three miles south of the mouth of the River Tyne. Some four miles or so to the north of the mouth of the Tyne is a sister Victorian lighthouse, St Marys Lighthouse, on St Marys Island. This has now been decommissioned, but is open to visitors. St Marys Lighthouse can be seen with the naked eye from the top of Souter Lighthouse. Souter Lighthouse was itself decommissioned in 1988, but continued to serve as a radio navigation beacon up until 1999 when it was finally closed.. 📍Nantucket, MA • Nantucket is an island off of Cape Cod! Let me tell you that we were blown away by its beauty - from the beautiful lighthouses to the beaches to the cute cottages and streets 😍 ⁣ 🔹Here are some travel tips for Nantucket (💌 save for later): ⁣ 1️⃣ ⛴ Take a ferry - there is a high-speed ferry (1 hour ferry) and another ferry that lets you bring your car with you to the island (2 hour ferry). The ferries run frequently and book in advance! ⁣ 2️⃣ 🚲 Transportation on the island - the cheapest is the shuttle ($3/person)...the car/bicycle rentals and ubers can get on the expensive side! ⁣ 3️⃣🍦 There is a delicious ice cream place that you have to make a stop at called @nantucketjuicebar - I had mint chip and Jag had oreo cookies and cream 😋 ⁣ 3️⃣ Make sure to visit the lighthouses - these are the main attractions on the island!
