My clever friend @felicityboevink (a self described “Covid-safe evangelist”) designed the pattern for this face mask in response to the recent resurgence of the virus in Australia. She has been inundated with orders for these beautiful and functional pieces so encouraged me to join the effort in an attempt to get as many of our lovely clients covered as possible. It looks simple but is deceptively clever, with the perfect angle to sit snuggly over the nose, a wired nose piece and a flattering line around the chin and jaw. More importantly it follows guidance from Vic health with a minimum of three layers including a non-woven poly inner layer and breathable cotton lining against the face. This is the prototype that I have created for myself and I will start posting masks for sale in the next couple of days. Please stay safe, practice social distancing, wash your hands and get tested at the slightest sign of Covid-19 symptoms. Life is crazy. It’s all just so surreal. My house smells of bleach and the jasmine plant I brought home as the sweetest treat. I’m spending any spare time I have sewing masks for friends. I’m having to quarantine away from my own family. My business has been closed for weeks with no clarity on when we can reopen. I sent my husband back to work today (an essential worker. Who also happens to have to do his job at hospitals 😣) and I kept having dejuvu about when I used to have to send him back to war. This is by @heatherbailey from her #niceyjane collection. I bought this 9 years ago from @fabricdotcom when i first discovered the wonderful world of online fabric shopping 😆 I made them long gathered dresses which used about 80% of the width which explains why I have a long strip left behind. Many artists, fabricators and manufacturers all over the world in this pandemic have shifted to manufacturing and distributing PPE. Brian @chimpendale and I are working with Matt and Levi of Pneuhaus to raise funds to provide the much needed PPE for our healthcare workers. @pneuhaus created a new model of face shield based off the brilliant open source design of @urieleisen and @callil that utilizes PVC since the standard materials (PET and elastic) are scarce at this time. Our initial fundraising effort raised over $4500 which has been used to purchase KN95 and provide face shields to healthcare workers in New England and California. . Happy Humpday Friends! It’s not easy posting this and I wasn’t going to but after weeks checking the internet and seeing the demand and the importance of research, our little family agreed to participate and join the rest of the few hand makers who are joining forces to donate face masks to nursing homes, churches, underfunded clinics, hospitals and their local communities. We are not doing this for profit and at first I was hesitant, but my sewing skills is what’s needed at the moment so I jumped into action. Through our research and talking to nurses, a special filter is needed inside a face mask not just cotton. However, the filter does not come cheap, it takes effort and precision to pull off and sew inside each mask. My beautiful niece has been an amazing help to me as we try to reach a goal of 150+ masks to donate. We won’t be posting dogs/collars on @dream.n.design for a little while as we focus on reaching this goal. However, if you are interested in a mask, we do have a listing in the works that will help pay off the filter required. 1 mask purchase will help us make 4 masks that we can donate. If you simply want a mask, well we have beautiful ones being made from fabric prints that I couldn’t otherwise, use for collars as the images were too large.
