“Paul Nutter a Marine 1st, Vietnam vet, (I believe he told me) 22 missions as a tunnel rat in Nam. Participated in the Battle for Hué City, and the Tet offensive. Then a firefighter paramedic/EMT in North Barberton, Ohio. When I met Paul in 1998 he was HM2 Nutter better known as Chico or Pappy. A Navy Reserve corpsman for the 3/25 Marines out of Brookpark, Ohio. Deployed with the unit to the Haditha Dam, Iraq in 2005. Here Pappy (left) is consoling an Iraqi soldier who had just lost his brother. Pappy used to shave his head bald, but was told to let it grow because of the respect he commanded from the Iraqi soldiers and locals, they looked to him as a grandfather figure. More to come Pappy... Sorry I had to leave for work. Pap Nutter you are standing at the departure point for your next deployment. Instead, a 600W Halogen bulb was used, plus on-set lighting. The set was so brightly illuminated at night that crewmembers had to wear sunglasses!

Today marks a SPECIAL day, so I am feeling a bit sentimental and wanted to share. Two summers ago, I was rockin’ out the events at @churchviewfarmpgh 🌱🍅🌶🌸🌻✨ It was a Sunday that year, which means there was a Farm Dinner scheduled — this particular one with @curepittsburgh and @morcillapgh. @justinseverino was flexing his bartending skills at the guest check in ... there was lots of laughs ... lots of delicious food and wine … lots of farm fresh flowers” … and lots of Churchview magic. I met a “new” person (to me) in the industry, whom I had previously only known by name. “Nate Hobart? ... He’s the Exec at Morcilla, right?” The dinner flew by, and I failed to detect any hint of interest from the very tall chef behind the expo counter. It wasn’t until two weeks later that he slipped into my DMs 👀 and asked, “Hey! Would you maybe want to grab a drink sometime?” I was totally caught off guard, but agreed to a drink. A drink unexpectedly turned into a four hour conversation... a second date... and a third “date” / spontaneous Tuesday road trip to Philly... and here we are two years later. I’ve been madly in love with you right from the start @natehobart and the past two years have without question been some of the happiest of my life. I’m forever grateful that we found each other when we did, and that I agreed to go out for that drink... even though you did ask me out through Instagram 😘 Here’s to many more! ... Some things at Springbank havent changed in decades but that is all part of the charm. One piece of equipment which has lasted the test of time is the wonderful cast iron steep tank on the first floor of the malt barns. We start with a steeping cycle to hydrate the barley, and kickstart the crucial germination process. The steeping lasts approximately 42 hours (12 hours soaking/12 hours rest/14 hours soaking/4 hours rest) and once complete the barley is moved from the tank to be spread evenly on our malt floor. 💪 This is no easy task, every bit must be shovelled out by hand! Who thought working in a distillery was their dream job? Abbas Habibi, 36 Job: grocery clerk, Barbur World Foods You fall under an essential part of the work force. What went through your mind when you learned that? Habibi: Some people are needed to be there for the community. People cannot go without food. So you have to be able to provide that for people. I mean, I think there is worth in any job, there’s dignity in any job. But it made me a little more aware that we are all needed, that we’re all going to be in this together. We’re all going to sink or swim together. It made me feel a little bit more, I don’t want to say important. I think we’re all important. But we are needed for the community, to be there and provide for the community. The notion of who’s important, you touched on that ... Habibi: There’s dignity in every job, in work period. It was an incredible experience to visit Mushroom manufacturing unit in sarai, district vaishali, bihar. The manufacturing was started just with 2 cold storage unit costing 20 lakhs and now they have expanded to 5 units including compost manufacturing unit. 2 units are for spawing and casing process and other 3 are cold storages for storing the harvested and packaged mushroom having minimum temperature of 6°C to 8°C. For spawing the moderate temperature is between 20°C to 22°C. The temperature is then reduced to 14°C to 16°C for casing. They generally grow button mushrooms which takes about 70 days to mature. They sell at 120 to 160 rs/kg to bigbazar(samridhi) and other marketing agencies making a profit of 80rs/kg approximately. The govt. policies plays a key role as according to it and developed schemes the farmers are getting around 100% subsidy support on the cost price. This has also helped the farmers to earn good profits even in pandemic. Im just lost for words as I thought this day would never be. In the last 10 years Ive been cooking no one as made a greater impact then Chef. I was fresh out of culinary school had more ego then any skill. Then Chef came and humbled me down. He thought me how to hold a knife, sear a piece of fish, create a spreadsheet, how to lead a kitchen, how to lead myself, how to push yourself to limits that you thought was impossible. Not all times were blue skies and sunshine. He thought me as well to overcome the rainy days and the icy nights. Some might say I do well in icy weather. As much as he thought me he made sure that I made the decision he gave advice never demands. He lead the way never walked behind. That hard. Work beats the popular vote. Now as I go on to the next phase Im nervous, scared, apprehensive of the unknown. But through the years with him I learned how to look scared right in the face and bitch slap it...Thank you for everything chef. The time we spent over the stove and over a board is time well spent and I will take with me forever. Im fortunate I got to start with you when you were all young and angry.
