Hello Everyone, We would like to address a situation that occurred at our restaurant last evening. During dinner, a customer let us know that she was on the receiving end of racist comments made by another patron. We immediately addressed the situation with the customer and asked them to leave. We understand that some feel there was a lack of urgency in removing this patron from the premises. However, the safety of all our customers and staff is our utmost concern and we wanted to make sure this situation did not escalate and become hostile. Within 10 minutes the person paid their bill and left the premises. There is also mention of the customer hugging our employee, and we would like to make it clear that this was unsolicited and occurred before our employee was made aware of the situation. After the patron left, we made sure that our guests were comfortable and well taken care of. The patron in question is no longer welcome at Bluewater Grill. Bluewater Grill has been in business 24 years and we pride ourselves on our customer service, diverse staff and commitment to a safe environment free of racism or harassment. We do not condone prejudice or racism in any form. This includes remarks made by customers which we cannot control. Under the road map hairdressers were listed to reopen in Melbourne under the third step, and beauty and professional services in the last step, step 4. However these services - where workers can wear masks - will be permitted to open earlier - towards the end of October. This will mean services such as facials, lip waxing, facial tattooing (or any service where a mask has to be removed), cannot occur. Three sestets, one octave and four refrains written in Iambic Pentameter •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• The first two lines are not fully iambic. Given my chosen topic, I liked the thought of easing in both the melodic rhythm and amount of alliteration that I decided to use. I believe this to be fitting of the topic, as well as appropriate for the Bop form, which is plot driven. I see the gradual introduction of the iambic rhythm and alliteration as resembling the progression of climate change. They then become perfectly linear, much like the tragic course of events that persist until the bitter end, when nature effectively revokes our tenancy to this world. Needless to say, I hope that this doesn’t come to be in the real world and that humanity can change course before its too late. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• This is my submission for round 2 of Poetry Battles All Stars, a one-off version of the competition consisting of previous champions, finalists and standout competitors from throughout the year. Luscious Leaves Four end rhyme quatrains written in Iambic Pentameter ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••Writing entirely in meter and with as much alliteration as possible is something that I wanted to undertake for the first time. Surprisingly, I couldn’t find any examples of on Google of this having been done, although it surely has, even if seldom. I would highly recommend trying to write alliteration in meter as a one-off challenge. Not just for the gratification of being able to pull it off, but for the likely enhanced appreciation of words and their sounds in the aftermath. I dont know if Ill pursue it again, but Im glad that I did. This piece is also my submission for the current Your Heart Beats Proud prompt, which was to write about Autumn, yet without using the words: Autumn, Fall, Red, Orange, or Yellow. Diversity and representation within tourism marketing is lacking. Along with Indigenous cultural sensitivity. These are issues I have constantly raised with @explorecanada @hellobc @indigenousbc @indigenouscanada @tourismvancouverisland @vancouverislandnorth @tourismtofino @tourismnanaimo and Port Alberni on @heartofvancouverisland which eventually turned into @exploreportalberni . . When I have approached these DMOs about diversity and authenticity, the responses I have received are we work with Indigenous photographers and ITBC. Ive asked colleagues and there was a consensus: @winterhawkstudios and I are the only active Indigenous creatives within tourism marketing in so called British Columbia. The only willing Indigenous creatives to work within tourism marketing. For myself, these marketing campaign opportunities are rarely offered, especially when they are within my homelands. . . The current system in place to hire creatives, request for proposals, is flawed. I was reminded several times, by colleagues, to apply and eventually gave up some pages later. Its an overwhelming and bureaucratic system that doesnt work with creatives. We are creative and rarely analytic. I believe a simpler version would garner more traction from creatives, especially from BIPOC creatives. . . Lastly, Ive been apart of this industry for some years, primarily on the marketing management side, and a firm believer & supporter that change needs to happen in tourism marketing. We need to amplify BIPOC voices, communities, and experiences within tourism in so called British Columbia and Canada. Tourism marketing needs to reassess their approach on Indigenous cultural content, marketing, and sensitivity. DMOs truly need to implement UNDRIP within their practices. DMOs should respect and listen to Indigenous peoples when they voice their concerns, especially when it comes to our cultures, languages, and traditions. . . Ps.
