Constellations are a lot like television. They tell some of the best, most ancient stories, and they have their seasons, coming and going throughout the year and marking the turning of the wheel of time. Orion the hunter is perhaps the most famous constellation in the celestial firmament. His story is one of a boastful hunter, doomed to be punished by the gods and chased across the heavens by Scorpio the scorpion. Orion runs across the sky, and just before hiding below the horizon, the scorpion rises to chase his prey. If you look for the constellation Orion during the summer months, you wont find him. During the summer, Orion is below the night sky horizon. When Orion is above the horizon, daylight drowns him out. However, every fall, Orion starts to make an appearance. If you want to see Orion in September, youll have to stay up late. As September continues, you can see the constellation in the slight southeast right around 1 a.m. Orion will be almost at its highest point just before sunrise. The best time of year to look Orion at a reasonable time of night is in January. One of the most distinct features of this already distinct constellation is the sword of Orion. That astronomical feature is M42, the Orion Nebula. New stars form over the eons in giant clouds of interstellar material here. Got up at 1:00am on 7-13-20 and took a drive out to a desolate spot in the Mojave to wait for a glimpse of the Neowise comet at sunrise. I took all of these shots on my Samsung Galaxy. The first one has Neowise. It was my best shot. With a phone... My son Nikolai has a nice Nikon and got a couple of great shots. @isthatnikolai There were only about eight minutes that we were able to capture shots before the clouds and light took away our view. It will be 7000 years or so before this comet will come back around. Many of you have guessed the inspiration for our newest Flagship Design that will be available on October 1st. It Is the Green Bank Radio Telescope. This massive telescope is used by scientists all over the world to research the vast unknowns of space. It sets 485 feet tall and has a collection area of 2.3 acres. This telescope also sits on an interesting plot of land known as the National Radio Quiet Zone. Over 100 miles of no cell phone service, internet, radio, or TV. The telescope is so sensitive that it can even pick up the radio waves being sent from the camera that took this shot. Dans le parc des geysers d’El Tatio, les fumerolles prennent vie au contact du froid extérieur et ne cessent de danser au rythme des rafales de vent. Il était 4h30 quand cette photo fut prise, le soleil encore lointain, se préparait à chasser les ombres. Nous étions à 4200 mètres d’altitude, un froid glacial m’engourdissait les doigts. I’ve been asked a few times lately why is there so much difference in the sky colour for Astro shots. Basically it comes down to the shooters preference; what Kelvin setting they shoot at and in the end how you process the image. Lately I have been leaning away from Blue skies and going towards the warmer settings both while shooting and processing. I believe the warmer (black skies) better represent the truer image. I’ve processed the same image 2 different ways (warmer and cooler). I would love to hear which one you prefer. We knew the Perseids were coming and contemplated heading out to Joshua Tree Tuesday evening to try and catch the shower. It’s a long drive to take on a weeknight with work early the next day, but at the last minute we said, “Let’s do it!” Got to JT around 9 pm and stayed for about 2.5 hours. Saw maybe 20 meteors in that time. Was hoping for more but no regrets. As soon as I sat under this beautiful sky, I knew the drive and lack of sleep would be worth it. Just four meteors, a planet (Venus?), and the Milky Way over @rockynps nothing too big to see here. ✵ I shot this while out shooting NEOWISE. I turned the opposite direction and saw the milk way over the mountains that define the park. That’s Longs all the way on the left. ✵ This was one lucky as hell capture with four meteors. It made up for missing a green burst one by a second a couple mornings before when out shooting the comet. ✵ I missed the National Parks birthday the other day. I have a lot of imposter syndrome around my photography work. I have never really felt like a “real” photographer. I compare my images in a way I never compared my performing & I have a deep insecurity about the ways I have chosen or not chosen to present my work. Even calling it “work.” I sit and stare at thousands of unshown images and I feel a freeze about what to do. My fear of having it all “be for the gram” takes such a hold I that I’ve just never allowed myself to share freely for fear of it somehow would diminish the beauty of the impulse I’ve felt so deeply my whole life to capture it long before the gram came on the scene. Also I feel like I’ve never had a consistency in my subject matter or my editing or my style which makes me feel like a “bad” photographer, though in truth I know it’s a most accurate reflection of the fickle hearted wildly contradictory explosively desiring to be everyone and everything all at once person that I am. And so... Ive been revisiting Martha Graham’s iconic words recently. About keeping my channel open. About the fact that my expression is innately unique because there is only one of me in all of time. And if I block that Chanel and these impulses... it will be lost. The world will just not have it. That I don’t really need to concern myself with how good or valuable it is. I don’t even need to believe in it!! That I simply need to keep myself open and aware to the urges that motivate me... if you haven’t sat with this message I encourage you to. And if you have... revisit it. There’s so much to unpack in this miracle wisdom. But the point is. Let it fly... because it’s not up to you to decide if the world needs your expressions. It does. 2 days back on the Bernina pass in Switzerland, for the milkyway in the background, I used my new 90mm 2.8 Macro which is incredible sharp. The panorama took me 2 out of the 3 hours we had darkness. The result is a 600 MP tracked Milkyway shot which will be coming the next days. This is a composite with a picture taken in the blue hour. Does The Universe Exist Because Of Our Conciousness? ●From the evolution of quantum physics, physicists started looking at the basic constituents of reality- atoms or their innards or photons. ●Weirdly enough the double slit experiment showed that constituents of reality(atoms photons etc) behave both as a wave and a particle. I rarely post a Milky Way photo with out some type of stacking, usually in deep sky stacker with a ton of photos and usually with dark, flat and bias frames. I was out the other night and shot some single exposures with the zeiss batis 25mm f2. Was extremely happy with these, being a 10 second exposure, iso 3200 at f2 I was surprised with how much light this lens lets in over such a short single exposure. I actually now prefer this lens over the Sony 24mm gm 1.4. Shot on monday at Mount Laguna. Según un reciente estudio publicado en la influyente revista Nature, el mejor lugar del planeta para observar las estrellas reduciendo al mínimo la turbulencia de la atmósfera es el Domo A o Domo Argus, el punto más elevado de la meseta antártica. Este domo de hielo se ubica a 1200 km de la costa más cercana, cerca del centro de la Antártida Oriental, a mitad de camino del polo sur y del colosal glaciar Lambert. No es una montaña, sino una planicie, cuyo punto más alto se eleva a 4093 msnm y en donde se registran las temperaturas más bajas del planeta, destacándose un valor informado en 2010 de -93,2 °C. The Two Guns KOA Campground was operational through the 1960s to the 1980s. There were several different owners throughout the years offering Indian Souvenirs, a small zoo, the Apache Death Cave, a shell Gas station and a campground. There is no official statement as to why it was closed down, but its closing coincides with Two Guns itself turning into a ghost town. . The town of Two Guns is full of Native American history. One notable event was that it was the site of a mass murder of Apaches by their Navajo enemies in 1878. A group of Apaches had hid in a cave at Two Guns to avoid detection, but were discovered by the Navajos, who lit sagebrush fires at the caves exit and shot any Apaches trying to escape. The fire asphyxiated 42 Apaches, after which they were stripped of their valuables. The murder site is referred to as the death cave. . During the winter of 1879-80, Billy the Kid and his outlaw gang hid in the ruins of a stone house and corral on the west rim of Canyon Diablo, across from Two Guns. - @bandosociety on Instagram

I had the honor to shoot a full night at the famous MAGIC telescopes at the ORM on La Palma. These incredibly sensitive telescopes detect cherenkov radiation in the upper atmosphere, a beta product of cosmic gamma rays. The pixels of the detectors are big as grapefruits, operate at over 1000V and observe the atmosphere at over 1million frames per second. The two dishes work in sync to provide parallax for depth data. And yes, all the frames are from 8K timelapses. 19500 frames/1TB shot in that single night.
