It’s about time this was on my feed again. Some of you have still never heard it quite like this and you most definitely should. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Every couple of months I like to repost this. It’s important that this is reiterated. It matters. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I get a lot of messages telling me long, mostly heartbreaking stories about how desperate you are to lose weight at any cost, even if it hurt you in the long run and actually worsened your health. My biggest wish is that more of you would truly come to believe that it is not your life’s purpose to do so. You are worth more than the number on the scales. Health is far more than just a number. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I spent a while trying to write a more eloquent caption; trying to explain in depth that even if your health DID improve it still wouldn’t mean it’s your life’s purpose, as your health is not only incredibly multifactorial but you are not defined by your health status… but it’s harder to express in an Instagram caption than you’d think, so that sentence will have to do for now. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Save this post and remind yourself of it daily. Pretty much sums it up quite neatly I think! And for some of us, here we go again... and it seems from a scant glance at various social media platforms, here we go again with the opinions. With the judging, with the pointing of fingers, with the pontificating about what the “right” thing is to do. Of course everyone has their opinions. But that’s just it. It’s “your” opinion and may not necessarily be the same as someone else’s. Whether you think we should lockdown again or we shouldn’t, we should send students back or we shouldn’t, the pubs shouldn’t be open at all or should just have normal licensing hours - the list of opposing views on so many things is long 🤷♀️ And people generally have really good reasons behind their opinions. You might not agree with it, but it doesn’t make them wrong and you right. No one is winning at this. I can only think that the best course of action if you disagree with someone’s opinion is to walk away. In real life or online (to be fair, if it’s in real life, they should be 2m away from you anyway 😉) Encounters with people should make you feel better about yourself and not worse. Social media should be a place where you find solace and inspiration - curate your instagram feed and your Facebook groups accordingly. But please, please do remember - we all in the same storm, but we’re not in the same boat. And for the record, I for one, shall be venturing into this storm, with humour as my cagoule (do they still make them by the way??)
