What is your trigger? We all have triggers. Our trigger can be activated by an event, person, environment or thought. That trigger is rooted in a self-deprecating emotion like the ones above. These triggers can often lead to many mental health issues like depression, anxiety, substance use, eating disorders, and so on. It is important to be aware of your trigger so that the work can begin to health yourself. Do you know what yours is? Looking internally so often these days. Grabbing on to all the gratitude while recognizing the reality of where we are at today. 😔 On the mental health side of things, anxiety-inducing circumstances can be so hard to manage as a Beauty Pro. We are engaged in conversation all day, and with our current circumstances, that conversation can feel so heavy. Add to that financial worries, especially when you dont have a financial safety net in place, and this can all feel like too much. As you continue to get back to business, remember to practice self-care! Its so important these days. What do you do to recharge after a long day of discussing heavy topics with clients? Journal 📝 Listen to tunes 🎧 Get outside🏌🏼‍♀️ Take a bath 🛁 Maybe youve taken up a new hobby post quarantine? You could even turn it into a side hustle that could help you earn extra money while we all navigate operating at lower capacity. Upwork, Thumbtack, Etsy can all be great to monetize your newest hobby!! 🤔 Things might feel tough right now, but it isnt permanent. Focusing on all you have to be thankful for today can push you through. 💛🧡💛 #independentbeautypros - @independentbeautypros on Instagram

Self-sabotage is hard, no matter the season. Lets chat about WHY we have a hard time reaching our goals, no matter how easy the plan looks👇🏻. When you first set a goal, your intentions are good and your motivation is high as you write down what you plan to accomplish: -▪️ Wrote down your big goal - ▪️Wrote down when you plan to accomplish it - ▪️Started writing down what you need to do weekly (whoa😳) - ▪️Started writing down what you need to do daily (youre already exhausted and starting to doubt yourself😭) Wait...what happened from before writing it all down to now? -➡️ Unrealistic methods and goals did. This is not uncommon, we can be so impatient and hard on ourselves at the same time. This is where exhaustion kicks in before even starting, your timeline is set to a very quick turnaround that you deep down know isnt realistic and youre expecting yourself to be 100% on target every day. Not freaking possible. Unless youre a 🤖 or a damn 🦄. In the end, this is usually where self-sabotage starts and keeps getting worse from here with negative self-talk. How can you reach your goals, without feeling overwhelmed with self-doubt👇🏻? -👏🏻 Be realistic with your timeline. -👏🏻Be freakin kind to your self. -👏🏻 Know that it will take TIME and PERSERVERENCE. -👏🏻 Know that you wont be 100% on target every day, but your drive to keep going each day despite what happened the day before will get you to your results. .✨Do you find it hard to set realistic goals for yourself? Need help in accomplishing your health and fitness goals? 💓 Click the link in my bio for custom monthly plans and 1:1 coaching for the best accountability partner and plans to ensure your lifestyle while seeing results 😉 . . . . . #todaysvibe #fallreminders #fallmood #todaysreminders #dailyreminders - @moule_t on Instagram

This year our tolerance to uncertainty has been tested hugely! Our wonderful advisor @drsarahmckay suggests that one way to build our tolerance is to work out what we can and can’t control. So I took her advice and did just that, then alongside my lovely co-founder we came up with a new teacher wellbeing course: Teacher Resilience. It’s a delightful exploration of awe, gratitude, stuff ups and more. One of the activities we invite school staff to do is this very image here... check out the things I have decided I cannot control. 😉 Available online, see link in bio. On this self care Sunday: the ultimate mental health tip.⠀ ⠀ This is yet another example of how self care can be completely free and take zero time. ⠀ I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “comparison is the thief of joy”. Well it’s very true. ⠀ Especially on social media you are seeing just one piece of someone’s life—the piece they want you to see. ⠀ You’re not seeing the donuts the ate for breakfast when they’re promoting their healthy lunch.⠀ You’re not seeing the tantrums when they show you the “perfect moment” with their little one. ⠀ They’re not showing you the messy rooms, the tough stuff, the disappointment, grief, or whatever else. ⠀ Those pieces are part of life. ⠀ Don’t set your expectations to have a perfect day or perfect life. ⠀ When we have more realistic expectations—ones based in reality, not a curated social media post—we can set ourselves up for success. ⠀ Expect the difficult times, know that they’re part of life and parenting.⠀ Comparing or setting an unrealistic goal can leave us feeling defeated. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Share this post or send to a friend!⠀ ⠀ Follow @dr.nichellehaynes for more mental health education during pregnancy, postpartum, parenting and more. - @dr.nichellehaynes on Instagram

Posted @withregram • @rootsofsouthla 💯💯💯⠀ Reposting @therapywithlee: ⠀ ...⠀ Productivity isn’t necessarily a good thing or a bad thing. It’s our relationship with it that can get in the way.⠀ ⠀ Much of my work is centred around the process of self-actualisation. That is, how humans flourish and become who we are meant to be. Many things hamper our ability to flourish, such as trauma and adversity. But one of the most prevalent obstacles in our ability to heal and self-actualise is when our productivity is tied to our worthiness.⠀ ⠀ Capitalism is an external concept, but it can deeply affect us internally. It isn’t a new concept either, the productivity of individuals has its roots in Protestant, Calvinist and Puritan work ethics. We’ve been internalising it, or been colonised by it, for generations.⠀ ⠀ Our need to feel productive gets in the way because we stay busy in order to avoid the feelings of shame or guilt that accompany being still. Our self-worth is tied to what we produce and how commoditable we are. We are so distracted that we miss what we really need. We forego the things that help us to heal (such as space, connection, health) and we overlook what really lights us up.⠀ ⠀ After a while, we can find that being busy and productive becomes our go-to coping strategy. In the short term it gives us a hit of gratification. But as I learned the hard way, it can eventually lead to all sorts of other issues. At some point, we may hit burnout or a serious low point, we won’t recognise this person who has no choice but to rest, who can literally produce no more. It can be a frightening experience.⠀ ⠀ Recovering from internalised capitalism first means becoming aware. It means connecting the dots between an ideology and the thoughts in your head. It means unpicking all the messages from family, friends, school and the workplace that have reinforced the idea that you are a commodity, and that your worth is based on what you do.⠀ ⠀ Healing and flourishing means recognising that you aren’t a commodity, but a human. That your worth is inherent; that just ‘being’ you makes you worthy.⠀ ⠀ What you ‘do’ can bring you joy, but it isn’t who you are. 💗 https://buff - @dakster9 on Instagram

I talk about capacity a lot as stress is so extrinsically linked to your mental health that managing it is really important to looking after your mental health. I like to use the analogy of the capacity cup to visualise stress and the limits of your capacity so I’m sharing this again as so many of us are juggling extra demands and stressors at the moment due to the current situation. There’s a whole chapter on managing your capacity cup in my book, out on Thursday. It’s now two days until publication of my book, so my capacity cup is also being filled to the brim as I undertake extra tasks, many out of my comfort zone, in addition to the normal life/ work juggle. I’ve worked in the nhs for 17 years and also work at the university. When I started putting my drawings on here I never envisaged one day I would be saying that 50 of them are in a real life book that you can walk into a real life shop to buy! But on Thursday that will be the case (and yes I will go to look at it in a real life shop so I finally believe it) Thank you to everyone that has supported me on this page with nice messages, thoughts & comments and buying the book, which has kept me thinking this extra workload and juggle was worthwhile. There are a range of events this next two weeks I would love if you joined me in. I spoke to @hollytucker today on her Instagram life, who was a wonderful host and the perfect introduction to Instagram Live for me. You can watch this over on her page. Keep an eye on my stories for more events next week that you can join. On book publication day this Thursday I would love if you joined me to celebrate the launch at 7pm on Instagram live. I am absolutely thrilled that Gemma, @the_organised_mum will be hosting this event as I’ve known her since the start of Instagram, loved her values and she is a huge proponent of mental health. Due to covid, no real life events can be planned, so I would love if you can join me and Gemma to celebrate the launch and make it an extra special evening. Emma 💜🧠 - @thepsychologymum on Instagram

TSH controls the production of the thyroid hormones, thyroxine and triiodothyronine, which are necessary for proper metabolic, heart, and digestive functioning...not to mention many numerous other factors within various body systems. As you can probably imagine, having your body produce too much or too little of this hormone would be a concern. Imbalances here could represent an underactive or overactive thyroid gland. These both could pose contrasting issues in the forms of: - Weight loss (overactive) or Weight gain (underactive) - Anxious (overactive) or Lethargic (underactive) ….just to name a few…. Overall, this notion of “maintaining balance” is a common theme throughout holistic health. One of the most popular facets of our Full Scans are the bioenergetic tests of various hormone levels like TSH. Understanding how imbalances may occur, and what you can do to create more balance is key! *This post is designed for educational purposes only and is not intended to serve as medical advice* - @creatingbalancedhealth on Instagram

Your friend cancels on you because she doesn’t feel well. This was something that was getting you through the week knowing you had these plans to look forward to. You feel disappointed. Your immediate response to the disappointment is guilt for feeling that way. After all, the friend is sick! You tell yourself that you shouldn’t be so disappointed and to just get over it. Your guilt about your disappointment sparks guilt about other things. Old parts become activated. The original disappointment remains, untended to. You end up in a spiral. So normal.⁣ ⁣ Consider an alternative. You feel disappointment (VALID). You ALSO feel sad for your friend that she is sick (VALID). Both are real and true. You tell yourself that feeling disappointed and upset makes you human, not selfish or stupid. You remind yourself that it’s safe to feel how you feel. You do something kind for yourself. You let the disappointment ride until it goes away (IT WILL). ⁣ ⁣ When we resist our feelings, or treat them as threats, we create a ripple of secondary emotions. What was once frustration or disappointment is now frustration, disappointment, guilt, self-blame, anger, etc. AND, now there is likely anxiety because the response to the feeling was one of criticism and resistance rather than compassion and curiosity. Anxiety thrives in an environment of blame, doubt, and shame.⁣ ⁣ Remember, feelings are information. They are the tour guide (sometimes the rather annoying one that just won’t stop talking) on the journey of taking very good care of yourself. We can either listen to the message they are sending, and thank them or we can try to run away from them.⁣ ⁣ Which example do you relate to? What’s your normal reaction to an uncomfortable feeling? Can you think of a time when your self talk made the original feeling worse? - @kindmindstherapy on Instagram

Slides read: Confused about Executive Function? (Youre not alone.) Even the so-called experts dont agree about what executive function is (or whether it even exists at all). Russell Barkley, for example, who literally wrote the book on executive function, rejects most definitions and tests of EF. In his book Executive Functions: What They Are, How They Work, and Why They Evolved, Barkley insists that the only measure of EF are the deficits they produce in real life. Barkley says, Oh! Look how awful their lives are! Look at their emotional, social, economic, occupational, and moral deficits! (Yes, this is how he talks about ADHD people.) There must be something terribly wrong with their brains! Lets call it Executive Function! (Because there couldnt possibly be other reasons that people function so poorly in this society...) Barkley insists that EF is an evolutionary adaptation, yet he defines it in modern economic terms: “Humans daily engage in reciprocal exchange and must frequently and rapidly evaluate the costs-benefits to them of doing so as each party to the transaction goes about pursuing their actions toward their future goals, no matter whether the exchange involves money, goods, or services. This is the field of economics, broadly defined. Yet where does this widespread human goal-directed activity ever enter into modern views of EF? (Barkley 21) According to Barkleys logic, poverty and mass incarceration could also be explained by brain defects such as EF. (Rather than, you know, looking to societal defects such as industrial capitalism, white supremacy, misogyny, settler colonialism, homo/transphobia, etc etc etc.) If you would like to follow and support my work on Executive Function, please consider supporting my Patreon! Many different medications can affect your menstrual cycle. We take a closer look at the ones that can affect cycle regularity, period pain & stop #periods altogether. 💊Oral contraceptive pills: The ‘pill’ usually has a positive effect & can make the cycle regular & periods less heavy & painful. Hence its often used as a therapeutic intervention for conditions such as endometriosis, heavy or painful periods. Occasionally taking the pill can lead to break-through-bleeding between periods. 💊Aspirin in theory can increase the amount of bleeding during a period, but in practice this effect is minimal. It is also not particularly effective at reducing period pain. 💊Ibuprofen is excellent for reducing period-related pain & does not affect the amount of bleeding. Antipsychotic & anti-depressant medication can sometimes lead to absent periods or infrequent periods with longer a menstrual cycle (eg 35 days instead of 21 days for). 💊Weight loss pills: A sudden change in weight can also affect the cycle. Diet pills are known to cause irregular periods. A body fat percentage less than 17% can also affect it & lead to a lack of periods. Chemotherapy can lead to premature menopause & hence no periods, but sometimes the ovaries can recover & periods can resume normally. Your doctor will often recommend that you see a fertility specialist before starting chemotherapy if you wish to preserve your fertility. Steroids such as prednisolone can affect periods and make them irregular, prolonged & sometimes heavier - usually after long-term use of steroids. Other forms of contraceptives: The non-hormonal intrauterine devices (IUD, Copper-T) can lead to bleeding between periods whereas hormonal IUDs (Mirena or Jaydess) secrete a small amount of progesterone within the uterine cavity and will often lead to lighter and less painful periods. Sometimes the periods are completely blocked. Irregular bleeding in the first few months is also a common side effect. The injection pill, implant & minipill all contain progesterone & often lead to absence of periods. Irregular unpredictable bleeding is a known side-effect. #medication #menstrualcycle #menstruration #womenshealth #gynae - @londongynaecology on Instagram

I used to think I was really authentic. I shared just enough (and sometimes a little too much) of myself to show how open I was. I was an open book! When I encountered the idea that I was being inauthentic, I was pretty indignant. I thought I knew myself pretty well. I equated inauthenticity to being a fake or a phony. But then I learned that it isnt fakery at all, its just human nature. I realised that we are all inauthentic to some extent. We do what we need to do to fit in, to be loved and to survive. Sometimes its consciously - I was definitely inauthentic in my corporate job, because sharing my true feelings about some things may have got me fired! Yet even though I was vaguely aware of it, it still took a psychological toll. Then there are times we dont consciously realise that were not being our authentic selves. Weve moulded ourselved to fit in with what others need us to be. We tone down the parts of ourself that we were told are not good. We meet expectations. We become palatable. Sometimes we do this to protect ourselves. For example, if you learned that sharing your difficult feelings was too much for people - or that youd be shamed for doing so - then holding them in keeps you safe. You learned that parts of you are not accepted by others. Then we start to unpick it, and self-acceptance becomes a journey. But it isnt always an easy one. Authenticity can be scary. It may mean showing parts of you that others havent seen or that you havent really gotten to know either. We might start to wonder who we really are, and whether its worth it. It can also be challenging when others dont welcome your authenticity. They see it as change, but I see it as becoming who you really are. Nonetheless it can be tough when youre not sure where you belong anymore. Becoming is the word that Carl Rogers (founder of the person-centred approach) used when he talked about authenticity. This is because he saw it as a process, rather than an end-game. The key to becoming more authentic is self-compassion. Because sometimes well find it a stretch and acknowledging our humanness helps. 💗 - @therapywithlee on Instagram

📮 Founders open letter: Hey yall gorgeous people! I apologize that its been a pretty quiet few weeks on this platform. Ive been feeling down lately due to many different reasons which has affected my performance. All I can say is, its been an overwhelming month. (Or should I say an overwhelming year 😅) I dont think Ive posted anything personal about myself on this platform. For once, I want to get personal with this small community I have built at The Bath Theory. For the most part, what you see is a skincare brand with gorgeous feed and awesome products. What you dont see is a young girl working extremely hard behind the screen. From product creation, product testing, packagings, social media content, marketing and accounting. Lately, that girl has been feeling very overwhelmed with many things. As much as I dont want to let personal problems affect my work, there is only so much we can take. We are afterall, only humans. Im certain Im not alone in this, many of you are probably experiencing some sort of stress and trying your best to put on a smile each and everyday. I want to applaud you for staying strong, and applaud me for staying strong too. Its okay to breakdown, its okay to be emotional, its okay to take a break. We are only humans. Most importantly, know that we are not alone. If any of you wish to talk personal things, support each other, skincare chat or simply just want to get to know me, feel free to reach out and DM me here or on my personal ig account @dienafuji 💙 If you are still reading at this point, I just want to say my utmost gratefulness for supporting me and my work. Unfortunately, our society often paints suicide the same way they would a prison sentence—a permanent situation that brands an individual. Its important to know that suicidal ideation should not be used to judge or label; it is a sign that a friend/family member/spouse/partner is suffering deeply and needs treatment. Myths like these can prevent people from getting the help they need. Take a moment to read these sticky notes so that you can be a better support system to your loved ones who may be dealing with suicidal thoughts. Cis-hetero-white supremacy, colonialism, and modern capitalism are long-term ecological processes disproportionately harming Black and Brown bodies and the planet. Western Earth and environmental science does not - and as it functions, cannot - address these processes. The Critical Ecology Lab aims to deepen our understanding of how these processes shaped society and the planet by giving voice to questions/actions grounded in a more expansive understanding of global change, called critical ecology. The environmental problems (i.e., climate change) that have resulted from various industrial and extractive activities have been building over time, and disproportionately impact Black, Indigenous, & People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Climate change is now a mainstream problem because those harms have begun to impact white middle class people, while continuing to disproportionately harm BIPOC. Other impacts, in relation to and as a result of systemic murder for natural resource extraction (land seizure, genocide, chattel slavery), deleterious chemical exposure (modern environmental justice, socioeconomic vulnerability to climate change, and forced participation in ecologically harmful economic systems (neoliberal capitalism), have been ignored, excluded, deprioritized, and externalized for centuries (see: A Billion Black Anthropocenes or None, Kathryn Yusoff). Contemporary western science only emphasizes study of Earth and environmental change in the most recent and most distant time scales (last century or millions of years; the blue triangle). These time scales ignore global change as it relates to BIPOC (the rest of the triangle), and offer a back door for scientists to escape responsibility for these processes. BIPOC buffer white people from experiencing environmental harms and support the existence of the blue triangle (see: Racism is Killing the Planet, Hop Hopkins). Critical ecology is an entire paradigm in science that remains unexplored, and through it, researchers can do better. Both human bodies and the planet are at risk. ...written by Kunal Palawat (@soilmonologues) and Dr. Suzanne Pierre (@rabbi_vole) * Traducción al español próximamente * - @critical_ecology on Instagram

Evolve or repeat. Growth disrupts. Growth heals. Growth awakens. Growth reveals. What will you do when the winds of change come charging your way? Will you resist with force or flow bravely with faith? Will you invest your effort to transform in a meaningful way, or will you spend your energy on staying exactly the same? Speaking from experience, we’ve learned it’s better to lean into whatever growth opportunities the universe puts in our path rather than resist—especially when it’s uncomfortable and we don’t know what’s in store for us next. Sometimes that means unlearning certain habits and even unbecoming certain energies, identities, labels, people, places, dynamics and things that once worked for you but no longer serve you. What have you learned about growth? And what are you still learning about it? - @realwellnessherbal on Instagram

We go deep into #infidelity on this weeks episode of #DearTherapists #podcast. @guywinch and I have both worked with many couples whove repaired the relationship after an affair and have truly gone on to thrive. Its absolutely do-able. And one of the basic ingredients you need for that is for the person who has been doing the cheating has to take responsibility and really work tirelessly to rebuild trust, to reconnect and sit with the pain and deeply engage. But here, theres nothing that indicates to us any kind of willingness like that on the part of Elenas husband.  So what to do? Listen to how we help Elena break through her shield of denial, acknowledge her own resistance to change, start prioritizing her own needs, and stop falling prey to her husbands manipulation and gaslighting. I know I’ve been pretty quiet lately. I took some time off to prioritize my mental health after sinking into a lot of negativity & self-doubt. Imposter syndrome is exhausting! Anyhow, I’m feeling more clear-headed now, and wanted to create something positive out of the hostile interactions I’ve been part of recently because I’ve learned a lot from them. My 3 major takeaways:⁣ ⁣ 1. Many people, myself included, reach for manipulative forms of communication when there are underlying feelings of pain, fear, and shame. I believe this is because we are not taught productive ways of managing these feelings, as much of our society is predicated on ignoring, diminishing & demonizing any emotions viewed as antithetical to the American notion of “strength”.⁣ ⁣ 2. Much of manipulative communication is based on the transference of responsibility — that the recipient “should” carry the weight of the attacker’s feelings & personal situation. Unfortunately, dissecting & stopping this often requires the recipient to take on undue labor of educating the attacker (not their responsibility), which makes the interactions extra exhausting & harmful.⁣ ⁣ 3. The fervor & consistency of receiving manipulative communication is absolutely correlated with the stereotypes & expectations associated with the recipient’s intersectional identities. (Relatedly, the ardent dismissal of those identities being a factor is VERY telling.)⁣ ⁣ While the point of this post is to identify & examine harmful behavior, I want to say it’s important to also hold space for change & growth. I know I can be simultaneously guilty of exhibiting problematic behavior while being on the receiving end of a lot of vitriol, as an Asian woman in an industry heavily reliant on machismo and anti-intellectualism. Rejecting manipulative behavior also requires us to hold ourselves accountable for continually analyzing how (and why) we interact with others, so we are not also lured into enacting harm.⁣ ⁣ Note: There are many faces of each of these manipulative behaviors, and they present differently across different relationships. This post specifically addresses them in the context of online communication. - @chefjennydorsey on Instagram

Are you doing all 3 of these things? I feel like if one of them is missing, this whole PCOS healing journey takes a lot longer and is a lot messier. For a long time I really didnt understand MY body. I was trying medicines that helped lower testosterone, when I didnt even have high testosterone. And I was feeling super bummed when these medicines did nothing. Getting proper testing and taking the results to a naturopath helped SO much. And tracking my symptoms helped me to realise when supplements were or werent working. Another thing that gets me is prioritising my health. I honestly prioritise my health almost all the time. But life is life and sometimes things get away from you. I use my PCOS Journal to help me prioritise my health but there were periods of time last year where I didnt use my journal and boy did my health suffer. It wasnt just that my journal helps me understand whats going on with my body, but even just the simple act of dedicating that 5 minutes where I fill it in is SO important for me. It keeps me connected to my body and that has been essential for my healing. I go into my whole journey from diagnosis to motherhood and how these 3 essential things have helped me, in my new blog post. Link in my bio. We know inside that our health has something to do with the health of the air, soil, water and animals that we rely on. While short termism punishes the environment around us for monetary gain, we lose out in the end. It seems like covid fell out of the blue, but a pandemic like this (or worse) has been on the cards for a while. Governments have been warned by scientists and international bodies that industrial farming and our rates of deforestation put us at a high risk of disease. The good news is that those same scientists and international bodies have made a plan to avoid future pandemics. It takes the form of #onehealth. This has been around for a while, thanks to the @who and the @fao, and is an infinitely sensible guide for governments to follow. It is based on common sense: a healthy planet means healthy people. This is quite a revolution to our society, Im sure youd agree. But we know it to be true. Each of these suggestions can be acted upon on an individual level as well as a policy level. We can support local farmers and boycott supermarket meat and dairy. We can fight to save the forests near our homes. We can foster a relationship with and love of the natural world in ourselves and our children. We dont know how bad this or the next pandemic will be, but we know what needs to happen to stop them. And luckily this plan makes life better for us in the process. #permacultureillustrator #coronakindness #pandemic2020 #nomorecovid19 - @brenna_quinlan on Instagram

⭐️Reframing On the topic of adjustment and readjustment we also need to talk about reframing our thinking. It’s important to sometimes take a step back and think about our thinking. Sounds like a silly way to say that but it is what it is! How many times in a day do you catch yourself telling yourself a narrative about your day, the people around you, your life, or your circumstances? And how many of those thoughts are actually becoming your reality? These are important questions to ask because we have the ability to choose to reframe our thinking patterns. I’ve listed out a couple of common ones that we have all thought and we may all be thinking especially during this year. Learning how to reframe the thought is a great way to validate your initial thought and also allow yourself some compassion and patience. I don’t practice the idea of getting rid of any particular thoughts completely, rather to acknowledge that they are there and it is normal – while also working on how we can create those thoughts to be more productive. What are your opinions/insights about reframing? What is challenging or helpful? I have 3 money savings hacks. 1. 10 second Rule Purchase. I know you see that beautiful outfit on the mannequin, take 10 seconds to think if you really need, and don’t convince yourself either, I know how we can get. Be rational and see if it fits your budget and if it’s needed at the time. 2. Say NOOOOO to late fees. Put reminders on your phone if you have to. Hence why a budget is needed, it keeps you in check so you don’t waste your check. Lol Paying late fees is giving banks your hard earned money to make them more rich 🙄. 3. Cancel your unused subscriptions. We’ve probably made many commitments and subscribed many things we can’t commit to but if you haven’t used it in about a month you probably. Do yourself a favor and cancel those bad boys and save your coins. #budgeting #credittips #budgetingtips #personalfinanceforwomen #frugalliving #moneysavingstips #frugalmillennials #debtfreegoals #fixmycredit #buyingahome #homebuying101 #investmentproperty #homerenovations #usedcarsales #butgod #workingmillennials #youngprofessionals #couponing101 #debtfreejourney #blackwealth #debtfreecommunity #shopthelook #millennialmom #millennialmarriage #millennial #daveramseybudget #personalfinanceforwomen - @thefinancialquench on Instagram

These are things I personally engage in to calm, soothe, relax and connect with myself.• • As part of a healing journey we all need to figure out rituals/practices/strategies that support us in the best and worst times. If youre exhausted, youre not alone. In fact, its suggested that more than 50% of people with IBD suffer from poor sleep quality regardless of disease activity (1). ⠀ ⠀ A recent research study indicated that at least 50% of IBD patients experience fatigue. Inflammation, anemia, nutrient deficiencies, medications, and alterations in the gut microbiome have all been suggested to lead to fatigue in patients with crohns or colitis (1).⠀ ⠀ One of the many factors that can impact energy levels is poor sleep quality which is why I have my clients do research-based sleep and fatigue assessments at the beginning and end of our program so that we can quantify their improvements in energy. ⠀ ⠀ Some tips that have helped my clients improve their sleep quality include finding trigger foods to reduce pain/urgent/frequent trips to the bathroom, sticking to consistent sleep/wake schedules even on the weekends, and adding a relaxing bedtime ritual before bed. ⠀ ⠀ My most recent client who completed my program had an 85% improvement in her sleep quality score and a 44% improvement in her fatigue score and this occurred in three months. If she could do it, so can you! Small changes can make a big difference overtime. ⠀ ⠀ Reference:⠀ (1) Nocerino, A., Nguyen, A., Agrawal, M., Mone, A., Lakhani, K., & Swaminath, A. (2020). Petra Ramirez was a very loyal member of CBE La Causa, the first CBE community organizing project in Huntington Park in 1995, organizing to get rid of the giant pile of rubble called La Montaña by residents. Petra was reserved and shy, with a soft, kind smile. Petra said she found her voice through organizing, as she spoke out at many events, exposing the negative impacts of La Montaña. Once the facility was shut down, Petra rejoiced at having been part of the efforts that achieved turning the site into a beautiful school, right accross from her house. Petra was able to enjoy that amazing achievement for many years and even had grandchildren attending the Linda Marquez High School. May she rest in Power. TIME SPENT WITH GOD CHANGES EVERYTHING👏🏼✨ 1) When you spend time with Him, you begin to see things through His lens rather than your earthly perspective. We are meant to see life from heavens view! 2) Peace is available in His presence🙏🏼 It’s important to know that He’s got everything in the palm of His hand. Rest and let go of control! “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:7 . 3) He is the giver and restorer of hope! Nothing is too big for God to come through for you. When we catch His heart for situations and believe in His good nature, hope will arise! . 4) In His presence is FULNESS of JOY✨ When you hang out with God, joy will be a fruit in your life👏🏼 5) The more you spend time with Him the more you will discover your purpose. Drowning can happen to any family. It’s quick, and it’s silent. Never—even for a moment—leave young children alone or in the care of another child while in or near bathtubs, pools, spas, wading pools, irrigation ditches, ponds, or other standing water. During swim times, designate a “Water Watcher” – an adult who will pay constant attention to children in the water. Nature boosts our immune system... 💫 . Without natural exposure to pathogens in the world, our immune system stops learning how to respond to foreign invaders. The best medicine is EXPOSURE therapy. Over-sterilization of our internal and external environment does not protect us long-term; it is a band-aid on a much bigger issue and will not lead to a robust immune function. 😷 . What’s worse, sheltering inside will weaken your immune system further by decreasing your ability to synthesize Vitamin D from natural sunlight. Vitamin D plays a crucial role in the our ability to fight infections by modulating both innate and adaptive immune responses. ☀️ . Why do gut symptoms fluctuate throughout the month? In women without a gut condition or IBS, around 70% report experiencing at least one gastrointestinal symptom before or during their period. Commonly this involves abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhoea or constipation. In women with IBS, the gut can be more sensitive around menstruation (your period), making symptoms worse. Why? It comes down to hormone fluctuations during the menstrual cycle. Two of the main players are oestrogen and progesterone. These hormones rise and drop during different stages of the cycle. When hormone levels drop, symptoms tend to get worse. Another major contributor to period cramps are chemical messengers called prostaglandins. These are hormone-like lipids which cause muscles to contract, often leading to pelvic cramps and loose stools. How this commonly plays out: 1. Menstruation: hormones are low, prostaglandins are high ➡️ worsening of IBS symptoms and loose stools. 2. Follicular Phase: Oestrogen rises ➡️ energy increases, symptoms improve. 3. Ovulation: oestrogen and testosterone peak and then quickly drop ➡️ the hormone drop can trigger IBS symptoms. 4. Luteal Phase: Progesterone rises then drops towards the end of this phase (just before your period), prostaglandins are released at this time too ➡️ constipation and pelvic pain are common. Conditions such as endometriosis can overlap with IBS and may lead to worsening of symptoms around menstruation. ✨ There are ways to support your body and improve symptoms during your cycle. Nutrition plays an important role. If your symptoms are impacting your quality of life, you don’t have to suffer in silence. Speak to your GP and dietitian to find support and relief.⭐️ • • • • #fodmapdietetics #ibs #womenshealth #womensupportingwomen #womenshealthweek #womensnutrition #ibsawareness #hormonehealth #menstrualcycle #menstrualcramps #periodpain #endometriosis #womenshealthdietitian #ibsdietitian #ibsnutrition #lowfodmapdiet #ibsfriendly - @fodmapdietetics on Instagram

Repost from @wellness_dialogues • There are numerous types of privilege: class, gender, racial, religious, sexuality & being able bodied form the major categories. Racial privilege, more specifically “white privilege,” is a term that is often met with defensiveness so here are some things to note: ▫️The term “white” may spark discomfort if you are not used to being referred by your race. ▫️The term “privilege” may cause defensiveness if you believe it negates struggle. ▫️Discomfort and defensiveness related to race is likely rooted in privilege. So, what does white privilege really mean? ▫️Having greater access to power ▫️Having greater access to resources ▫️Being unaware of having power ▫️Having the ability to maintain racial power dynamics and inequalities ▫️Moving through professional worlds with ease ▫️Moving through social worlds with ease ▫️Having everyday conveniences that were designed to only benefit white folks White privilege does not mean that white folks cannot experience poverty or hardship. It instead means that white folks primarily benefit from institutional, cultural and social policies, practices & norms and typically perpetuate disparities through lack of awareness. Guilt is an easy and passive feeling to have. Lending and sharing power is challenging and active. I encourage you to take the more difficult route. When it comes to social media are you: Blaming? Complaining? Wanting? Worrying? Comparing?! Oooh CUTIE PIE, we’ve got some reframing to do! Negativity is inviting because, well, it’s easy. But easy ain’t getting ya nowhere. Let’s SHIFT. Instead of blaming the algorithm, take a look at your content. What are your top performing posts? What are your lowest performing posts? Take note, and also TALK to your community. What do they want to see more of and what do they enjoy the most? Instead of complaining about engagement, ask yourself: are you giving the engagement that you hope to receive? Often times we complain that no one is commenting on our posts, but when was the last time YOU spent time giving out genuine engagement? Instead of always wanting more more more when it comes to followers, switch your thoughts to being appreciative of the people who you already have. If you’re only focused on the the people you don’t have, you’ll never foster the necessary connections with the people you do have. Instead of worrying that the market is oversaturated, think, holy cow, if there are lots of people doing this, that means there is a demand for it! I can do this too and bring my own unique perspective to it. Instead of comparing your chapter 1 to someone else’s 57, remember that everyone was a beginner. No one had it figured out from the start. PCOS is a hormonal disorder caused by nutrient deficiencies. Balancing your nutrients along with a good diet and lifestyle is important to heal and reverse your #pcossymptoms . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Myo-Inositol is one such important nutrient. Myo-Inositol is a B vitamin that has been proved very beneficial in women with PCOS OR women with hormonal, metabolic disorders.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Myo-Inositol -⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☑️ Improves Insulin sensitivity.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☑️ Lowers testosterone.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☑️ Restores normal ovarian activity. ☑️ Regularizes period.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☑️ Improves Egg Quality and thus chances for pregnancy for those trying to conceive.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☑️ Helps with facial hair, hair loss and acne.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Women with PCOS have real low levels of myo-inositol and hence the follicles in the ovary are not able to mature n ovulate properly.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Eating myo-inositol source food like green beans, brown rice, sesame seeds and supplementing it is very important. And just when it felt like a turning point was finally being reached in the discourse around weight and health, the government introduces the new “obesity strategy”, largely driven by fear around the purported (and questionable) association with covid-19 risk (cf. @chr1styharrison recent post for a deep-dive into this). Highlighting that the focus on weight in the upcoming campaign will “capitalise on fear of the virus”, today’s news is filled with sweeping sensationalist statements and stigmatising quotes from the health secretary and other ministers and journalists, who’s focus on individual responsibility couldn’t be further from what we were hoping for with this new strategy. It’s clear I’m not the only one frustrated by how much this simplistic narrative misses the mark. Implied in discussions of Boris’ weight loss since his hospitalisation is the suggestion that, “if I can do it, so can, and so should, you” 🤷🏼‍♂️. But, now more than ever we need to be talking about the social determinants of health, the wealth of evidence we have that weight does not equal health, and that weight-shaming language will do more harm than good. The government must “do their bit” in acknowledging that in order to improve health, it is social and health inequalities that must be addressed. Yes, it would make for a much more complex and challenging strategy (and I don’t claim to have the answers), but addressing and delving into this complexity is necessary. So that it doesn’t fuel stigma, and in turn harm mental as well as physical health ❌ #Obesity #ObesityStrategy #WeightStigma - @ginagnutrition on Instagram

🧠 Until the age of around 4, toddlers don’t have a well-developed prefrontal cortex. It’s responsible for lots of important functions like impulse control and emotional regulation. 🗣 So until 4 yrs old (and even after!) Dr. Markham suggests children “borrow our executive function.” I spoke about this very topic with @drlauramarkham_ahaparenting for the Raising Toddlers Conference. . Co-regulation is modeling how we expect children to respond to life’s ups and downs. Laying that foundation for children. It takes patience to not overreact ourselves! . If you find yourself struggling to regulate your own emotions and behavior, you could follow Dr. Markham’s advice: 🛑“Stop, drop, and breathe. It’s your pause button.” Stop what you are doing, drop your agenda and breathe deeply. . What else can we do to help ourselves so that we can co-regulate in the heat of a moment? 🧘🏽Meditation is another way Dr. Markham suggests. Did you know that measurable changes can be seen in an adult brain after one month of meditating for 15 minutes a day! If you’re struggling with co-regulation then you won’t want to miss our full interview on Day 3 of the conference (📆 October 23rd!). Mark your calendar and register! . Psychologists don’t just “do therapy”! . Psychologists work in many many many different sectors and often outside of the therapy room. I think this is one of the main misconceptions of the career. Some psychologists work in clinics and hospitals yes, though many others work in corporations, with sports teams, in prisons, at court, with start ups, and the list goes on and on! . Even those who work in clinics / hospitals actually spend a significant proportion of their time outside of the therapy room - conducting research, training staff, doing assessments, etc. . A lot of psychologists say that what they like about the role is not one day is ever the same, and that’s what’s exciting about it. 🌟💓 . . . . . #clinicalpsychologist #psychologistsofinstagram #dclinpsy #psychologystudent #psychstudents #ukpsychology #psychologymajor #psychologydegree - @theoxfordpsych on Instagram

PCOS is often passed down through families. So we know it has a genetic connection🧬 as well as other contributing factors that lead to it. It is important to know that weight gain does NOT cause PCOS, rather PCOS causes weight gain. There are slim females that also have PCOS due to either genetics or environmental factors, etc. . There are different types of PCOS and based on the patients symptoms, each patient should have an individualized treatment👩🏻‍⚕️ ——————————— Insulin resistance is what drives cravings because as explained above, insulin resistant means your cells aren’t getting the energy they need - so you are low on energy, you crave carbohydrates, and you gain weight more easily⬆️ . It is important to make sure you’re eating enough and eating regularly. This is because when we let ourselves get too hungry, our blood sugars drop and we see massive spikes when we do finally eat. Restricting also sends us into that binge restricting cycle which ultimately can perpetuate metabolic dysfunction. According to a study, low carb diets in the treatment of PCOS is associated with a greater reduction in insulin resistance compared to a conventional diet. . Intermittent fasting is recommended - not just what you eat but how you eat! Ultimately how you eat is going to have a bigger impact on your insulin🍬⏰ . Often times people think giving up gluten will help manage PCOS symptoms. This is inaccurate since gluten is actually a protein found in grains, therefore unless you have gluten insensitivity.. then it is not required to cut off gluten from your diet🍞 . Patients with PCOS benefitted from eliminating dairy from their diet and found using alternative milks such as nut milks (almond, cashew, etc), coconut milk and flaxseed milk to be helpful in terms of avoiding excess hormones from animals (since they already have enough hormones in their body). This varies with each person since not all patients react badly to dairy🧀🥛 . A majority of women with PCOS have insulin resistance (fasting blood sugars and insulin levels are too high) - this puts them at a higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes, infertility, and other complications. . . One of the most common mistakes I see when it comes to PCOS is attempting to treat the symptoms.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I get so so many questions - what can I do for irregular cycles? What can I do / take for acne? Hair loss? How do I lose weight?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Well... treating symptoms is the conventional medicine approach. You want to treat your acne? You get a cream. Tomorrow is world suicide prevention day. Suicide can still be a taboo subject but nearly everyone had been affected or knows someone who has been affected by suicide. It very important that we talk about this and have as much knowledge about this as we can, through evidence based information based on good quality research and through the stories of people with experience. I’m proud to have contributed this drawing for @afspnational last year for their real convo campaign which aimed to open up conversation about mental health so that people feel supported and to reduce isolation and hopelessness. We can often be scared to ask about mental health in case it makes things worse, feels awkward or we just don’t know what to say. And we can often feel scared to talk about our own mental health as it seems shameful, we are worried it may affect the other Person or what they think of us (amongst other reasons). This drawing was part of the campaign and aimed to help give some tips and ideas to help people feel more confident in being able to open these conversations up and offer a safe space when people need it. If you are affected by these issues then there is good information about what you can do and the help available on @afsp (USA) @papyrus_uk (UK) and @samaritanscharity which is available in most countries. I would also advise reading @mattzhaig words, for the hope that life will not always feel this way and that things can get better. - @thepsychologymum on Instagram

#MondayMindset blog is up: Yes, Too Much Positivity Can be Toxic written by SheEO Development Guide MJ Ryan @mjryan4178. About a decade ago, a psychologist named Barbara Fredrickson asked a simple yet profound question: what are the positive emotions for? Her research and that of many others points to the following answer: through the release of feel good hormones, to help us recover from the negative emotions, to bring our body/minds/spirits out of fight/flight/freeze and back to a relaxed state. They are meant as a recovery strategy, not an emotional bypass. Read more - link in bio. COMMON PERIOD SYMPTOMS✨ - I asked you all what are you most frustrating period symptoms and the common theme was: PAIN. - Period pain can show up as symptoms like: 🌙Cramps 🌙Pelvic pain 🌙Headaches or migraines 🌙Gut issues 🌙Breast tenderness 🌙Painful cyclical acne (usually on the jawline) - And of course if we’re in all of this pain our mood isn’t going to be the best – hello mood swings & anxiety. - While these symptoms are COMMON, they are NOT NORMAL. - Pain is a signal from the body that something is out of balance. - When it comes to these common period pain symptoms it’s important to identify the root cause, which is often: 1️⃣Imbalances in estrogen & progesterone 2️⃣Inflammation - When we’re talking about imbalances in estrogen & progesterone often it’s that we’re in an estrogen dominant state. But estrogen dominance is not just one thing, it’s high estrogen IN RELATION TO progesterone. So this can show up as: 1️⃣Elevated estrogen, normal progesterone 2️⃣Elevated estrogen, low progesterone 3️⃣Normal estrogen, low progesterone 4️⃣Normal estrogen, normal progesterone but low progesterone/estrogen ratio - It’s important to identify YOUR picture of estrogen dominance, because healing strategies will differ slightly, ESPECIALLY when it comes to supplements that help with supporting estrogen metabolism or raising low progesterone levels. - For example, taking DIM because you have these symptoms and assume your estrogen is high when it’s not, can lower estrogen too much and lead to OTHER issues. Or taking vitex / chasteberry because you assume your progesterone must be low but it’s not is not actually getting to the root cause. - So what can you do? Test & don’t guess. I use the DUTCH hormone test in my practice to help you uncover your hormone levels so you can target a healing approach that is based on what is going on in YOUR body. And you complete the test at home.🙌🏼✨ - This way you can save time, stress, & $$ by actually knowing what to target. - For info on the hormone test package see link in bio (US clients only)🌻 - @composednutrition on Instagram

TRUTHBOMB 🤯 . You can change your job, change your relationship...move countries . But there comes a moment when you’ve done that enough times to realise that in all those situations that weren’t great, that you were the common denominator. Ouch 😣 . You see, we can’t avoid ourselves (Although of course we can try 🤷🏻‍♀️) . The external stuff, the stuff that’s not working for us in life can be the trigger (if we let it) for us to start to look within . And it’s actually one of the biggest GIFTS we can have because it means we finally start to get to know ourselves, we meet ourselves wholly & completely. From the inside-out . From that place we get to fully choose what we bring into our lives. Not from a place of escaping. But from a place of wholeness 🌟🌟 - @_clairebradshaw_ on Instagram

I was working at a “dream job” when I started to spiritually wake up. I was 23 years old at the time, making upwards of 6 figures working for a utility company. I thought that I had really “made it.” But something felt like it was missing from my life. I was driving in my in my work truck one day and I heard this voice start speaking to me. There was no one else in the truck with me and I thought “am I going crazy? Who the hell is that talking to me?” I just kept hearing the words “Jake it’s time to wake up and get to work.” I thought “I am already at work what do you mean get to work?” The voice kept getting louder and louder... As the days went on, I started questioning everything that I had been conditioned to believe. I felt like most everything I had been taught was a lie and designed to keep me in a system so I would stay “asleep.” I spent most of my life operating in ego consciousness. It was all about “me” When I started to awaken, I transitioned from “me” to “we” This is when I started to connect to the voice of my soul. Have you heard this voice? Would you like to learn more about this? I am doing a free training this Saturday morning and would love to have you join. Click the link in my bio to grab your seat before it fills up! Guys.. this needs to be said. As a mental health professional very involved in the social media community, I’ve seen thousands of the same posts DAILY. The ones about anxiety, taking it a day at a time, you know the drill. Guys.. look. Yes, these are nice sentiments. But before you post something, REALLY THINK about how helpful it will be to those reading it. People in this community follow a bunch of similar accounts and seeing the same thing over and over in slightly different words might be nice for a moment, but it doesn’t ACTUALLY produce change. Think of your objective. Is it just to have an online presence as a mental health professional (or whatever you are doing) or is it to influence and make people really think of things in a different way? And look, we don’t all have to be leaders and influencers and that’s fine. Not saying you need to be. But the over-saturation of the same types of posts actually could be detrimental. Why? Think about if you were actually struggling with a mental health disorder. Is reading a quote or watching a reel or tiktok telling you to do some deep breathing really going to help? Or might it make the person feel more alone and frustrated because they’ve already heard these things and they aren’t helpful? Be mindful in your posts and really think about who you are speaking to and what your objective is. Unless you just want to be one of those accounts people just scroll through and don’t actually read/learn anything from🤷🏻‍♀️. #sorrynotsorry - I don’t sugarcoat!!! I love the idea of eating less meat, but I always feel so hungry ...or just unsatisfied when I try to go more plant-based. 😫 . . . Sound familiar?🤨 . . . ⤴️Above are some of the most common mistakes I see when people try to shift more plantbased. Let’s dive deeper.⤵️ . . . Fiber🌱, protein💪🏼, & fat🧠 help keep us satiated. Plant-based diets tend to be higher in carbs🧆, so it’s important to make sure you’re choosing carbs with higher fiber 💩& protein 🌯amounts. Even a simple swap like quinoa or oats in lieu of rice (even brown rice is still fairly low in fiber and protein) can help! . . . 🌱Plant-based diets tend to be lower in fat🧈, especially ones that omit eggs🥚 & dairy🧀. Fat helps with meal satisfaction😋 and longer lasting energy⚡️Be sure to include fats in cooking or add in 🥑avocado, 🥜nuts, seeds, or olives to your plate!🍴 . . . ⁉️Are you eating enough or did you just omit meat without a replacement? 🧐I’m not saying you have to substitute meat 1:1 with a veggie based meat product, but you do need to adjust your portions to make sure you’re still hitting your needs. ➡️Similarly, plant-based meals tend to be higher in volume - think big leafy salads 🥬and grain bowls🥙. Fiber is awesome, but if your meal is all high fiber, lower carb veggies you may feel full very quickly, but not have actually eaten enough other nutrients to keep you satisfied🧐 . . . Friend, incorporating plantbased meals shouldn’t leave you hungry or feeling like something is missing! 🤟🏼DM me or comment below with other questions you have about plant based eating🗣 - @redefininghealthy_rd on Instagram

In this “new normal”, all we can do is our best. And that’s a lesson we’re taking into the weekend and beyond, for whatever life decides to throw at us. When we were thinking ahead last December, we had no way of knowing that on top of all the things we already do for ourselves and others, that more responsibilities would be added to the list. Happy Social Sunday! ✨ Whether you’re back at work, still #wfh or hoping to turn your side hustle into your main biz, now’s the time to grow your brand! To help you strategize for the upcoming week, we’re breaking down our top 6 strategies for growing your brand on social media! 🌟 1. Post Consistently - You don’t have to post every day. You can post as few as a couple times a week! But it’s important to set a schedule of when to post so your followers will know when to expect content from your page. Create a social media calendar so you can commit to the schedule. (Don’t forget to save some back-up content for days when you feel brain-drained!) 🌟 2. Don’t sell - just tell your stories - The social-savvy generation is literally bombarded with an ad every second so the key to making a long-lasting connection is to just be you. Don’t tell them what you do. Show them why it is that you do what you do, and how you’re doing it! 🌟 3. Grow an interactive community - Social media is a two-way street! Interact with your followers by asking questions, commenting back to them, and actively engaging on their page! Treat each like, follow, and comment as a friend reaching out to you via texts/calls. It’s rude to leave those unread, right? 🌟 4. Partner with causes that support your brand’s value - With great power comes great responsibility! Here at XYZ Media, we fully believe that it’s our responsibility to put the “social activism” back into “social media”. It’s cool to have a following, but it’s even cooler to use your platform to better our community. In a world full of competitive influencers, you will standout if you are socially responsible. 🌟 5. Niche down! - Here’s a secret… avoid broad hashtags! The more niche your hashtag selection is, the quicker you’ll gain influence in that market. Niche down first then scale up. 🌟 6. Track and learn from your posts with the highest engagement - It’s important to look back at your pasts postings to see what your audience wants from you! Which posts got your the most likes? Most comments? Least? This will help give you a direction on what to focus on. - @xyzmediaco on Instagram

Having boundaries makes you a B I T C H ⁣ ⁣ At least that’s what main stream would have you believing⁣ ⁣ Love can’t exist without boundaries.⁣ ⁣ Seems like a simple concept but the application in action is where many appear to struggle. WHY?!⁣ ⁣ We’ve been taught that filling our cup first is SELFISH (and god forbid someone perceives you to be selfish..) ⁣ ⁣ Boundaries are often difficult to set because..⁣ 👉🏻One doesn’t know themselves⁣ 👉🏻One doesn’t feel they have rights⁣ 👉🏻One believes setting boundaries can jeopardize a relationship⁣ 👉🏻One never learned to have healthy boundaries.⁣ ⁣ ✔️Boundaries are learned and If yours weren’t valued as a child, you didn’t learn you had them.⁣ ✔️Boundaries are our way of communicating to others that we have self-respect, self-worth, and will not allow others to define us.⁣ ✔️Boundaries help us express ourselves as the unique individuals we are, while acknowledging the same in others.⁣ ⁣ How do you know is you are lacking in or struggling to set boundaries? Let me throw down a few examples.⁣ 🖐🏻You constantly CRY WOLF (hello victim)⁣ 🖐🏻You complain about E V E R Y T H I N 🖐🏻You blame external circumstances and situations for your reality⁣ 🖐🏻You go against personal values or rights in order to please others⁣ 🖐🏻You give as much as you can for the sake of giving⁣ 🖐🏻You take as much as you can for the sake of taking⁣ 🖐🏻You let others define you and constantly worry about what others think of you ⁣ 🖐🏻You expect others to fill your needs automatically⁣ 🖐🏻You feel bad or guilty when you say no⁣ 🖐🏻You choose not to speak up when you are treated poorly⁣ 🖐🏻You agree for the sake of avoiding discord when in actuality you disagree ⁣ ⁣ Here comes the re-frame y’all if you are struggling with boundaries I ask you to remember this... ⁣ “Should the cabin lose pressure, oxygen masks will drop from the overhead area. WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR CHILD IS SAD: Is it okay for your child to be sad? Be honest. Are your comfortable with your child’s sad feelings? Many of us are not. It dredges up a whole lot of muck for us as parents. Fear, Exhaustion, Guilt, Worry….⁣ ⁣ What do we do? We either offer a quick fix or SHUT IT DOWN. ⁣ ⁣ Listen to me, we’ve all done it- we’ve all said “You’re ok! Don’t cry.” ⁣ I get it. Honestly? Sometimes I catch myself still doing it. Sad feelings are HARD, especially when we are already weighed down by our own. ⁣ ⁣ This post is meant to help you think about your reaction to sad feelings, not turn you into a scripted robot who needs to always say the right thing. You are human, there’s no way you’ll always say and do the “right” thing. ⁣ ⁣ Also? Your child will most likely NOT tell you they are sad with verbal language. They will likely show you they are sad with behavior, body language, and facial cues. The goal is to eventually be able to talk about being sad, but that takes long term acceptance and support. ⁣ ⁣ Try swapping out some language and see what happens. ⁣ ⁣ Let’s teach our children to accept themselves, including ALL of their feelings. October is #pregnancyandinfantlossawareness month, and I am so grateful that this awareness exists - but it’s hard. I feel for those who have to remember their losses this month - although I know it’s not something that’s just off of our minds. For me, this month is one that I really just need to get through - I’m so grateful we’re finally having our rainbow baby 🌈 but I need to get to November to breathe more again. In October of 2018 I had my first miscarriage and in October of 2019 I had my second - so I have hated this month for years. I’m so grateful we finally have good news to look forward to this month, but it’s still a hard month. I also personally remember our two embabies that never even had a chance - through failed transfers - this month, and I think that it’s a personal choice for how you grieve this month. No matter what loss you’ve experienced. So to all those remembering their pregnancy or infant losses this month - I see you. I am you. I am so sorry for your pain. Your loss and your pain matters. ❤️ 🧡 💛 💚 💙 💜 - @wheneverybodymatters on Instagram

I may sound like a broken record but Ill never stop saying that health and well being is about more than whats on your plate. ⠀ If it only took green juice to be healthy, wouldnt everyone be drinkin that kool-aid? ⠀ If it only took medication to fix things like anxiety, wouldnt fewer people be anxious? Ill tell you what, if that was the case, I would have kicked severe anxiety attacks to the curb LONG before I actually did. ⠀ For me, just taking medication was like putting crappy bandaids over VERY deep wounds. ⠀ The deal is, you are a multi-faceted being. You are the sum of MANY parts. For real, lasting change and optimal living, you need to consider the WHOLE self, not just one or two aspects. ⠀ It took me a long time to truly and fully understand this. I had to address my physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health to really see progress in my life in terms of healing from illness(es) and managing mental health. ⠀ Thats why Im such a fan of a holistic approach to health and wellness! ⠀ #holisticwellness #holisitichealth #holistichealthcoach #healingtools #healthandwellnesscoach #wholeperson #healinganxiety #momswithanxiety #womenwithambition #wellnesslifestyle - @reclaimingmaddie on Instagram

Raise your hand if you’ve had any of these uncomfortable conversations with your teen 🙋🏽‍♀️? Awesome! Good for you! We know that these conversations can be awkward, weird, icky, we get it, we get it. But they are also necessary in today’s climate. A couple of thoughts on how to tackle these: 1- Try a “parallel” conversation, like riding in the car or going for a walk, so that you don’t have to be face-to-face. 2- Pick times when you and your teen can actually focus. 3- Ask open-ended questions and create an open dialogue, rather than “talking at” them. 4- Share your own personal story to get the conversation rolling (bonus points if it contains any humor 😂) 5- Admit that you don’t have all the answers! You are human, and your teen should see that too. Plus, it creates a feeling of empathy and accountability between the two of you. What has worked for you in having these tricky chats with your teens? This week we are diving into the process of consent and can’t wait to hear how you handle that with your teens! #beaproblemsolver #parentingteens #parentingtweens #consentmatters #consentculture #raisingteens #teenmentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #socialskills #fuquayvarinanc #hollyspringsnc - @beaproblemsolver on Instagram

If you’ve ever been betrayed by a partner, you’ll know how painful the recovery process is.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣And as if dealing with the fallout from the betrayal wasn’t bad enough, your suffering intensifies when you don’t know how to navigate the plethora of feelings that follow.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣If not properly managed, emotional pain really has a way of bringing out the worst in people.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣You might experience feelings like sadness, loss, confusion, disappointment, and powerlessness. And in such vulnerable state, often the safest feeling that you can access is the one that protects you from falling victim again — anger.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣Anger energizes you to reclaim your power by subduing your threat, so you might feel entitled to hurt them back.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣Initially, punishing your partner might help you restore some sense of justice in your relationship, but over time, continuous punishment only reinforces conflict and prevents healing. Here’s why:⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣✔️ You’re going the wrong way. Post-betrayal, if what you want is to rebuild trust and connection, hostility is the wrong tool for that.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣✔️ Mistreating your partner may cause self guilt that can amplify your insecurities about the relationship.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣✔️ Holding on to hurt and anger shuts out any opportunity for repair.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣✔️ Punishment can create a role reversal, where the other person now becomes a victim, and you a threat to be avoided.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣Forgiveness is key if you’ve been hurt by your partner, and desire staying in the relationship. It involves letting go of the need to punish your partner for their mistakes, and giving them space to regain your trust.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣Take a look at the comparison above.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣When you’re hurt, do you find yourself more punishing or forgiving?⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣More on working toward forgiveness and repair tomorrow. - @lovealways.drbetsy on Instagram

× Faiths October Prompts × “FAREWELL TO FLESH” 🖤🖤🖤 Originally, I wasnt feeling all that big on my birth this year, but making this prompt list has revived my soul. Last months September prompts were a bit all over the place, hence I condensed this set quite a lot and tried to make it a bit more cohesive. You dont have to use them in any particular order and please be as creative as possible! Rid yourself of flesh (creatively, mind you) and let your thoughts reign free. Additionally, this October I may be teasing a few of my works, but focusing on one in particular as it fits the theme quite well: Skin To Bone. Thanks for your attention. 🖤🖤🖤 RULES: Have fun! Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. ⠀ A couple days ago, I posted a post about how to recognize some easy-to-miss warning signs of suicide so that when people recognize them in their loved ones or community members, they can reach out and intervene. 🗣 ⠀ However, checking in on our loved ones and sharing crisis line numbers is not all that we can do. Suicide, like many mental health issues, can be prevented by reducing some of the systemic and societal barriers to emotional wellness. Systemic and societal changes such as being able to access healthcare, the reduction of stigma in society, and anti-oppressive stances from institutions to individuals, often have a trickle-down effect and can help prevent suicide by helping individuals regain a sense of hope. ⠀ There’s certainly more ways to prevent suicide that I haven’t mentioned. Today, I challenge you to pledge to start working towards one thing - whether big or small - that might help prevent suicide. This may be anywhere from changing your language (i.e. not using phrases like “I’d rather kill myself” as a joke) to advocating for alternatives to our criminal justice system/incarceration. ⠀ Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, and this month is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, but suicide prevention is a goal that we, as a society, need to be working towards beyond the month of September. ⠀ What are some other ways we can prevent suicide, on either the individual, interpersonal, community, or systemic level? ⠀ (Please check out my fellow members of @thealliedminds.co, @acutepsychotic and @akostherapy who both have wonderful posts on ways to prevent suicide - from the individual level to the systemic level. They both have inspired me to think more from a systemic lens about suicide prevention and were the inspirations for this post. ✨) - @themindhealthspot on Instagram

Happy Monday! Let’s talk about anxiety ⚡️ What isn’t talked about enough is that just as any other symptom or health related issue that arises, with anxiety our body is speaking to us. Whether your anxiety is brought on by specific stressors or seems to be non specific and ever present, there is a health picture painted inside your body and accompanied by other symptoms. There is ALWAYS a root cause. This is not everything but a great deal of the root causes (likely a combination of what is listed above) contributing to your experience of magnified and prolonged anxiety that doesn’t seem to end or be alleviated. I went through a whole host of prescription anxiety medications when I was a kid and to no avail did they “heal me”. My pediatrician never spoke about things as these root causes. I always felt there was something inherently wrong with me which I know our health care system has a habit of doing to many of us! And let me tell you this is simply not the case... you are a beautiful and extraordinary human and it is your INHERENT RIGHT to feel healthy and achieve the picture of health you desire. Once I learned to HEAL the root causes of my symptoms, I feel like a million bucks. While working on all of these things, I woke up one day and the anxiety just seemed to disappear. Remember though it is not that simple and this is a healing PROCESS. What I can tell you is that there are so many little things in your life that may seem minuscule that are definitely contributing to your anxiety. Overall four major things are true in terms of lessons we can learn from the body when it comes to anxiety... 🤍The body is experiencing inflammation in some way shape or form somewhere or everywhere. 🤍The body is deficient in proper sleep, various nutrients and minerals. (If you want to learn something really cool and important google the “glymphatic system” newer research your brain’s way of clearing out toxins during sleep and highly connected to disease pathology) 🤍The body is stressed and overstimulated due to routine or major life stressors. 🤍The gut, endocrine system, or any other major organ or organ system is disrupted. - @theholistic.honey on Instagram

Did your doctor ever discuss nutrition during your pregnancy? It’s disappointing when I talk to mothers who say that nutrition was never discussed during their prenatal appointments, and if it was brought up, it often included these common misconceptions. ⠀ ⠀ 🚫Any prenatal is ok⠀ ✅ Not all prenatals are created equal. The forms and doses are important to enable your body to absorb nutrients that may be lacking in your diet. ⠀ 🚫You don’t need to supplement with vitamin D⠀ ✅Studies have shown that the needs of vitamin D for a pregnant mother is much higher (at least 4000 IU) compared to the current RDA of 600IU. Vitamin D levels can vary greatly depending on where you live, your skin tone, among other factors, so it’s important to get your levels checked throughout your pregnancy to properly assess your needs.⠀ 🚫Take folic acid⠀ ✅Folic acid is commonly used in prenatal vitamins, but studies show that 40-60% of the population are unable to convert this synthetic form to use in their bodies. Folate, or L-methylfolate, is the activated bioavailable form that is naturally found in foods and allows for the body to metabolize it without converting it. ⠀ 🚫Avoid fish⠀ ✅Many women are told to avoid fish for fear of contaminants like mercury. However, many types of fish, like cold water fish, are safe to eat during pregnancy. Fish is also an important source of DHA, which plays a crucial role in your baby’s brain development, as well as trace minerals and vitamin D. ⠀ 🚫Stay away from organ meats⠀ ✅Many traditional cultures included organ meats in their diet during and after pregnancy. It makes perfect sense, since it provides many important nutrients for pregnancy & postpartum. It is one of the few sources of choline (an important nutrient that plays a role in fetal brain and proper neural tube development), and is also rich in iron, vitamin B12, folate, vitamin D & vitamin A. ⠀ ⠀ ➡️Most doctors are not nutrition experts, so they may not provide the most accurate advice about nutrition, which is crucial for a growing baby and a mama’s health. That is why it is important to request lab tests to check for depletion! Continued⤵️⤵️⤵️ - @mothernutrient on Instagram

I’m having a moment today when I’m not feeling sick enough. I feel like a fraud. I miss the body I had in March that matched my brain. I’m confused and anxious. And so I wrote something for myself that I think might be helpful to share. Read this when you feel that you aren’t “sick enough” (whatever the hell that is🙄) ⤵️ Everyone with an eating disorder struggles with the feeling that they are not sick enough. The problem is, the “sick enough” people are dead. They lost weight and hit whatever number was too low for their body and their heart gave out, or they engaged in a different behavior and their electrolytes got out of whack and their heart stopped. Think about it—really stop and think of when you first started engaging in behaviors. You probably didn’t feel like they were bad enough, and you continued to use them because you were chasing some elusive feeling that you still haven’t gotten because you continue to engage in behaviors. You told yourself that at some point you were going to stop because you would finally be “sick enough” for your eating disorder. Has that happened yet? Likely, it hasn’t, and maybe you’re telling yourself that you feel a little bit better than you used to (I know I did!) and maybe that’s true, but it’s still not enough for you’re eating disorder and it never will be. So take this as your sign. You are sick enough. You deserve help. You are worthy of recovery. ——————————- Let me know your thoughts on feeling “sick enough” down below. Did you ever feel like you hit it? Is it something you struggled with?⤵️ - @plantfully.maddie on Instagram

Food was my predominant way of managing my emotions. Maybe you can relate? I grew up in a home where food was love. And food was my go-to for boredom, loneliness, anxiety + stress. The problem was, when I wanted to lose weight, emotional eating got in the way of my goal AND it kept me from addressing the actual emotion I was feeling. I want to make something VERY clear: Emotional eating is NOT bad. It’s a mechanism we develop to cope. BUT, if you do have a physique goal, you will NEED to manage stress, overwhelm + anxiety with things other than food ♥️ Food is a distraction + isn’t a long term solution. Food can’t fix sad. Food can’t fix angry. Food can’t fix stressed or anxious or irritated. It does a good job fixing hunger though 🙂 All that other stuff... you’ll want to manage in other ways. When you eat for sadness, you’ll end up with 2 problems: being overly full and sad.. THAT AIN’T FUN 🤣 lol I’ve been there. This topic has been highly requested on our podcast, Decades of Strength, and today it’s LIVE for you 🙌🏼 🙌🏼 In this weeks episode, you’ll hear the strategies we’ve used to move past relying on food soothe ourselves + use to help our clients do the same. This is difficult. Uncertainty is difficult. Our brains find uncertainty difficult. Normally we manage this by creating plans and anticipating the future with a degree of confidence and assumed accuracy, but that’s just not possible right now. Our brains feel stressed because uncertainty and unpredictability is ever near and the future is unknown and difficult to plan for. Then on the flip side, our normal coping strategies- that help us deal with stress- are just not possible. Relaxing and pub is an oxymoron right now. A leisurely browse is fraught with tension. Meeting friends has such a degree of added complexity or planning that it’s not quite the easy relaxed event it should be. Anticipated joy to fill our mind is hard to find, so anticipated dread creeps in instead. As for holidays - the thought of which often keep us going through tough times - well, who knows when they will be back. It’s a double difficult whammy of increased stress and less availability of coping strategies to deal with that stress. And that is not just double difficult, but exponentially difficult. Often we blame ourselves for how we feel. Or we shame ourselves for how we feel. We think we should be feeling differently or doing better. But sometimes we just find it difficult because it is difficult.. So try not to shame the feelings you are having right now, or internalise these to mean something negative about you. Difficult times can result in difficult emotions. That doesn’t feel nice, but shaming or blaming yourself just makes it even more difficult. Instead try to recognise and validate how you feel. Everybody’s brain is different and everybody’s situation and experiences are different. Combine these together and it means that how everybody will feel in response to the current situation will be slightly different. Different doesn’t mean wrong, differences are the norm with emotions because differences are the norm with humans. And difficult emotions are the norm in difficult times, but these need extra care not the additive stress of shame or blame. - @thepsychologymum on Instagram

Nutrition can help low progesterone! Let me break it down for you; every time you ovulate, the little place on your ovary where the egg used to live transforms into a special gland called the corpus luteum. (I hate that name and it reminds me of the word “corpse” but I digress…) This miracle gland begins secreting progesterone! A vital hormone that fluffs the lining of your uterus into a soft little bed for baby to land. It also closes up your cervix and thickens the mucus barrier between your uterus and the outside world, keeping baby in and germs out! 🙌🏻 Beyond this, progesterone relaxes muscles, boosts metabolism, and does way more things than I could list here to your brain, breasts, skin, GI tract, and more!🥰 If you’re not ovulating regularly or if that little corpus luteum gland can’t make enough progesterone, cue sad trombone music and the list of symptoms I shared above😢 Oh but here’s the other b*tch about progesterone: it can be great one day and total crap the next! Singular blood tests don’t mean sh*t, really. You can test 100% fine and your levels can promptly tank in a few short hours. This is why I ❤️ DUTCH Cycle Map tests! These beautiful tests show your levels progesterone over many many days, detailing exactly how and when it rises and falls! This information makes low progesterone SO TREATABLE! If you have any of the symptoms listed above, don’t fear, sister! The power of mindful thinking is amazing 👌🏼Telling yourself you can’t do this, it’s often coupled with the assumption that your efforts as a parent will not be rewarded. It’s creates an invisible wall, by telling yourself you can’t do something, you are already set up for failure leaving us feeling overwhelmed. 😰⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Shine through with a positive perspective change! 🙌🏼 Begin to start your days with the a positive/growth mindset that new lessons you’ve learned and moments you’ve shared are personal to your family. Instead of telling yourself that you can’t do it or focusing on the specific outcome, try flipping your thinking to reflect the positivity that every day can have a new lesson and that you will grow from it! 🌞⠀ ⠀ #Trehausco #PostiveVibes #GrowthMindset - @trehausco on Instagram

World suicide prevention day ☁️ Healing doesn’t have a timeline. There are times where surviving & barely holding on is all we can do. Times where learning to cope & stay safe is attainable. Times where we really do heal and life truly feels worth living for. No matter where you are in your journey, I just wanted you to know that there is hope and you are not alone. It gets better. Talking about suicide, sharing hotlines, reaching out to loved ones, breaking the stigma around suicide, advocating for more accessible support services and healthcare, decriminalising suicide, putting in place systems to support survivors of suicide attempts & their loved ones are just a few things that are so important in suicide prevention.. but let’s also remember this work extends beyond a day, or a week, or month. Suicide prevention is part of our wider efforts to change systems, supports and conversations around mental health & illness 💛 take care, friends - @ericiaa_ on Instagram

now that the days are getting colder and autumn is approaching, chances are, depressive episodes are coming for me. winter is my biggest depression trigger ever, and swedish winter is hellish to me (and like, most of us living here). i decided to sit down a little while ago and write down all my personal depression signs so i can be more mindful of when it might happen. it seems - well, depressing, to plan for depressive episodes, but that’s life with bipolar disorder. you gotta stay on top of your moods. i am a huge advocate for understanding your mental illness and knowing your triggers, warning signs, and symptoms. when i start feeling depressed, my extrovert heart grows uninterested in social interaction, and when i find myself around others i just feel so incredibly dull, bored and tired of playing the character that is myself. my energy is low and my motivation is pretty much zero. dishes pile up, teeth get that fuzzy feeling from not being brushed enough, room starts looking like a pigsty, it’s a whole mess. but once i realize that i might be depressed, the easier it gets to start fighting back, because you have to fight that damn depression until your will to retain your normal self is stronger than depression’s grip of your psyche. knowing what your depression looks like when it starts creeping up is really important. these are my signs of an incoming depression, what are your signs ? • • • #mentalhealth #mentalillness #mentalhealthawareness #psynligt #nostigma #mentalhealthwarrior #recovery #art #digitalart #artistsoninstagram #comic #crazyheadcomics - @crazyheadcomics on Instagram

DO YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN RHYTHM AND FAM? 🤷🏽‍♀️ ⁣ 🗓The rhythm method is based on the calendar (it’s what you’re doing when using a phone app that “predicts” ovulation and your period). The problem with this method is that it’s not customized to you, maybe you’re not one of the small group of individuals that ovulate on the 14th day of each cycle. It may be a helpful method if your cycles are extremely regular and you ovulate at the same time every month. However, even healthy women have variations when they ovulate month to month. If you don’t have a precisely timed cycle each month you may not know when or IF you’re even ovulating. ⁣ 🌡The FAM (fertility awareness method) is based on your personal data and encourages body literacy as you get to know your body, your cycle, and your signs and symptoms. This method uses three signs from your body to track your cycle: your cervical mucus, your cervical position and a rise in your basal body temperature reading. Using all of these symptoms allows you to accurately predict, track, and confirm ovulation which can help you maintain your fertility if using this method to avoid pregnancy or it can be used to accurately predict ovulation if you’re TTC ⁣ #healthycycle #womenshealth #womensupportingwomen #ovulation #anovulatorycycle #PCOS #periodhealth #hormones #fertility #infertilityawareness #bodyliteracy #BBT #menstrualcycle #ovulation #OPK #TTC #cycletracking #PCOSawareness #irregularcycles #PMS #FAM - @wellwomennutrition on Instagram

National data indicates that the current situation is resulting in increased anxiety and reduced wellbeing. Probably no surprise there. In the last week, I’ve done lots of interviews and been asked the same question a number of times about how Covid-19 can impact on our mental health and also how we can manage this. So I thought I’d answer this in a drawing. This is part one “just some ways that corona virus might impact on your mental health” part 2 coming soon when I get a chance to draw it! Thank you for all your contributions to this. Although I haven’t included them in the drawings, I wanted to acknowledge too that some people (albeit a minority) recognised that the current situation had impacted positively on their mental Health and mentioned reduced choice, more focus on what matters to them, slowing down and appreciating and being grateful for what they have. - @thepsychologymum on Instagram

When it comes to building wealth, it starts with your mindset. What do you say to yourself. If you believe that you’re not deserving of obtaining wealth, you will live the rest of your life blaming others as to why you weren’t fortunate enough. Change your mindset and change your money habits. - @thefinancialquench on Instagram

Let’s play a little game shall we….🧠 How many of these things above could you cross out that need some Vitamin R (Rest, Recovery, Relaxation) and how many of these things are habits you just don’t want to but truly need to change… Migraines and headaches are one of our body’s many amazing ways to communicate with us and alert us when something is off or needed👍🏻 I won’t lie to you, I can almost G U A R A N T E E that these are some of the MAJOR causes of your migraines and headaches. My personal recommendation: pick and choose the habits that you need to change and the things you may need to heal and get to work! I suffered with chronic migraines for a very long time in college. For me, it was a mix of diet, abuse of Adderall, anxiety, dysfunctional elimination pathways, poor posture and seating (still is), stress and anxiety, and let’s be real sugar and alcohol. I never thought I could figure out what was causing it but it was truly right in front of my eyes. I know it can be a frustrating process, but healing is never just easy. I can promise that it is worth it. Try being your own detective (and or get health from a health care professional) before just ignoring it and reaching for the advil.
