Slow your scroll remember days 1-14 of stay at home in March? I LOVED IT! As an introvert and someone who also has a pretty full social life, I found it liberating to stay at home. No FOMO, no saying YES when I really wanted to say NO. I took the time to pause. Its day 188ish and I do not love it. As a grief coach, I know from my training and working with clients that grieving in isolation is not the same as communal grieving. As a pretend anthropologist, I know that we are tribal by nature, and we need other people to survive and thrive. In talking to my single friends and clients, I found that there was a romanticizing of what it must be like going through 2020 in a relationship. It must be better than staying at home single right? Facts, its not easier in a relationship. My friends in relationships are also rose-colored glassing the single life. Divorce rates are up, and all the things we used to use to distract ourselves from feeling are not as readily available. Less hiding, more seeking. Whether you are single or in a relationship, one thing remains true, comparison is not only the thief of joy - its the thief of feeling our feelings. Check on your people and check your motives. Do you have the capacity to be honest with what its like to be you right now? Are you available to hear what its like for someone else? Please dont make the rookie mistake of hearing someone elses experience thinking that its an invitation for you to FIX. Now more than ever, we need to FEEL IT vs. FIX IT. Fixers are going to fix because your discomfort makes them uncomfortable. And if youre a fixer - youre probably fixating on someone else as a way to bypass your feelings. 2020 is heart work - not head work.
