Recently someone asked me how I feel about the anniversary of the car accident that forever derailed my life and triggered my disability. I replied a little too honestly. I said I am no less depressed by it now then I ever was in the past. That ‘acceptance’ is really only what it looks like to others while personally I still mourn the significant loss and suffering with with every day, every step. There were years when I weighed the positive and negative that arose from that day and was both solemn but grateful. I think about how some people find me strong while others see me as fragile. I don’t think its right to lessen my joy by remembering depression. Nor is it fair to silence depression by reminding me that there are moments of joy. I reserve the right to feel both, at their times, to their extreme, without apologies. Because after 10 years, the only thing I know is that when I am strong, I do that for other people but when I am weak, I do that for myself so I can keep going. #thisisms #10yearanniversary #disabilityawareness #flashback - @mushymuscles on Instagram
