On this day in 2019, car 4178 was unveiled to the public at Roncesvalles Carhouse. Fans from all over the city flocked to the yard on that rainy Saturday afternoon to catch a glimpse of the new and improved 4178. After that day @ourstreetcar ran on the 506 Carlton and 511 Bathurst on weekdays and 501 Queen on occasional weekends. She now resides at the Halton County Streetcar Museum. On Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, Red Line rail service between W. 117 and the Airport will be replaced with 66R buses due to ODOT painting work on the I-90 bridge near Triskett station. The stop for the Airport is located in the Ground Transportation Center, located between the Terminal and the Smart Parking Garage. Look for the special orange 66R bus stop signs at each station. Red Line rail service will operate as scheduled between W. 117 and Windermere during this time. Full Red Line service will resume with the start of service on Monday, September 21, 2020. That’s why, during this Saturday’s closure, our crews installed 1950.72 m of communications cables, investigated 1219.2 m of communications cables, and decommissioned and removed 1219.2 m of old subway radio cables. This work was part of the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit project. We also took this time to prepare for future fibre optic cable installation! Our Automatic Train Control signal work continued during last week’s nightly early closures. This included Phase 5 (Eglinton to Finch) prep and Phase 4 (Bloor to Eglinton) testing. Mónica estudió en @lacatolica en los 2000. Recuerda cómo su profesor de sociología siempre decía, “el Metro no es un lugar de estar”. Otrora ícono de la modernidad, hoy es testigo fiel del deterioro de los servicios públicos nacionales. El maestro repetía una idea generalizada (no sin razón), de que El Metro no era un lugar amigable. Mónica compartía esa idea colectiva hasta que cursó su segundo año de carrera. El Metro pasó a ser su secreto mejor guardado. No fue hasta ese año cuando lo empezó a ver distinto. El metro de Caracas era su secreto, algo que su familia nunca debía saber, y que lo usaba más de lo permitido. “Mi recuerdo más atesorado era escaparme los jueves después de clase entrar por la estación de Antímano para ir al centro, sin plan, sin horario, con uno de mis mejores amigos, a tomar fotos del centro y luego volver a casa en carro como si nada.” Durante este tiempo, el metro la hacía sentir más cerca de la ciudad, más caraqueña, ratificándole que se pertenecían mutuamente. La primera vez que se habló en Caracas sobre un sistema de transporte público masivo fue en el año 1947, cuando dos empresas francesas presentaron propuestas para la construcción de un subterráneo. No fue hasta 1983 cuando se inauguraron los primeros 11,5 kms de vías en la Línea 1 del metro de Caracas, que conectaría desde Propatria hasta la Hoyada. Hoy son más de 100Kms de vías y mas de 50 estaciones repartidas en la capital. A veces la historia puede encontrarse en los lugares menos esperados. Y tu, ¿te imaginas una Caracas sin metro? Junto com as extensões, há também menção ao Pátio Ragueb Chohfi, e os prolongamentos estão previstos para 2024, de acordo com o documento.
