Today is a little unreal. I made my final payment for my brain surgery. #operationevictangie is officially paid off. I don’t think the reality of this will sink in for a while, but all I can feel right now is peace and gratefulness. I’m so grateful to all the friends, family, coworkers and medical workers that made my health and recovery their priority. To the ones that gave time, food, money, and love to carry me through. All the cards, calls, jokes, tears, and memories. Nothing will ever take that away from me. This #cavernoma was the hardest journey of my life, and I’ll alway carry the scar as a reminder. Eu tive rompimento da bolsa (perda de líquido) com 14 semanas de gravidez. A médica que me atendeu disse que o bebê não tinha chances e que faria um aborto. Caso contrario, eu arriscaria perder meu útero por infecção se seguisse com aquela gravidez. Decidi arriscar e lutar até quando houvesse vida! Fiquei 3 meses internada e cada segundo era uma conquista! Com 28 semanas(6 meses e meio) entrei em trabalho de parto. O médico da emergência me examinou e não se responsabilizou, mesmo estando em estado avançado de trabalho de parto, resolveram esperar outra média. Eu desesperada dizia que não havia mais tempo de esperar a “outra médica chegar”. (O bebê deveria nascer de parto cesárea pelo risco e prematuridade). Logo quando a médica chegou pediu para todos correr que o bebê estava vindo. E porque que as coisas não estavam prontas ainda? Foi tanto desespero me vestem me colocam na maca, espera elevador, desce..., quando eu descia eu sentia a pressão do bebê que nascendo e eu ia segurando, mesmo com muita dor, tentando não fazer força, Do contrario fazia força para segurar ele, pois ele não podia nascer ali. Sentia uns estralos dentro de mim. Ainda foram preparar a sala de cirurgia (serio isso?) Eu gritava: “não da tempo!!!” Uma enfermeira chegou junto e disse: “Não grita! Não vai ajudar com a dor” Eu gritei e disse: “Não é a dor física”. Cada minuto ali pareceram uma eternidade... Me colocaram na sala de cirurgia: “Não dá tempo, não”! “Já esta coroando....” Pensei que nasceria ele ali mesmo....não!!!! Ainda Me transferiram daquela sala para sala de parto normal. Entre os movimentos da cama para maca eu sentia ele descendo e a pressão de expulsão e eu o segurava dentro de mim. Na sala do parto normal e quando levantei as pernas ele saiu escorregando, nascendo sentado nas mãos da médica (ahhhh inclusive essa foi a mesma médica la no início dá minha internação que não me deu esperança. • Ele passou por 2 cirurgias. Ele foi muito guerreiro, batalhou cada segundo, alma gigante. Its #pcosawarenessmonth Its time to educate. Many patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) are given their diagnosis and told they may never be able to have children. This isnt true for everyone. The main issue that women may face with PCOS is lack of ovulation or irregular ovulation. There are various treatments that patients can seek out in order to have a baby of their own. Sometimes it involves taking medication. Other times it may involve more invasive measures such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilization (IVF). It may also benefit to be under the care of a Reproductive Endocrinologist. In addition, just because you have PCOS, it doesnt mean you cant get pregnant naturally on your own. Every patient experiences PCOS differently. Explore the options that work for you. =============== My experience: we needed help to get pregnant with my first two children. It took years of trying on our own, then with fertility treatments. It was emotionally difficult at times. The medications can be taxing. The procedures can be invasive. The process can be stressful. Theres a lot of bloodwork involved (for which my veins may never forgive me), internal sonograms, failed ovulation tests, and failed pregnancy tests.... but THEN theres the ONE POSITIVE test that changes your entire world that makes the entire process worth it. We needed a fertility expert to help us with our first two pregnancies. Our third - well, thats where PCOS threw us for a loop. I managed to get my PCOS under control for one year through diet and exercise and that resulted in our third pregnancy. Life sure does evolve in spectacularly surprising ways. It’s been difficult for me to find the right way to write this out for an audience on social media…but I thought better to just do it than to fret over exactly how it’s done. My very special announcement to those who haven’t heard yet…is that Riley and I are expecting a precious being early next year. I’m pregnant! As a pro athlete, in a foreign country, if you can’t imagine the craziness of the last week—let me assure you that it has absolutely been the most overwhelming week of our lives. In all the goodness of the surprise along with the challenges of just getting ready to start this season with my club team, we have been trying to navigate this in the best possible way. I’ve expressed many apologies to my club and my teammates for this immediate change in the way we were hoping to experience our season together. Their response has been incredible. I’ll forever be grateful for the love and support I’ve felt from you all.💜 Moving forward there are a few very important decisions to make and Riley and I will be doing our best to make those as soon as possible. For now, all I have is love. Through everything that has gone on this year, I know each and every one of us has either faced something difficult, or something challenging, or something new. I am here as a reminder to you that even in all of the craziness we have been facing this year…there are beautiful things right around the corner that haven’t revealed themselves yet. It pains me so much to write this. ⠀⠀ We were so hopeful. We were so optimistic. We had such a “good” feeling about this working. We saw “signs” along the way. Things were supposed to go right for us this time around. But they didn’t...again. ⠀⠀ Kevin and I found out Thursday that our transfer didn’t work. We listened to the voicemail together when he got home from work. When I finally got up enough courage to press play, I could instantly tell by the tone in my doctor’s voice that it wasn’t good. ⠀⠀ And it wasn’t. Our miracle embryo found his home in Heaven instead of my womb. “Not pregnant” were the only words I heard. We were (and still are) absolutely devastated. ⠀⠀ We sat on the couch, speechless, with tears rolling down our face. Kevin didn’t have much time to take everything in, his virtual open house for school was starting shortly. ⠀⠀ Listening to your husband welcome kids to his class after he just found out that he won’t be having a kid of his own is one of the most heart-wrenching things to experience. I know how badly he wants to be a father and it hurts me so much that I can’t make him one. ⠀⠀ We don’t know where we go from here, but we want to thank you all again for your continued support. Often times new parents are surprised at how little it takes to feed their newborn. When they see the small amount of colostrum their body is producing in the first days after birth they will sometimes worry if that is in fact enough. Most of the time, it is! Your newborn only needs about 1-1.5tsp (5-7ml) of your colostrum in the first two days of life. By day 3 they are eating more, about 3/4oz-1oz (22ml-30ml) per feeding. More times than not your body is making enough for your newborn in those first few days. If you’re pregnant and planning to breastfeed, get informed about how your body works, what helps this process, what can hinder the process and how much your baby needs. Miss Rivers came to see me today for her 2 week well child check so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to discuss newborn screenings. Rivers is thriving on her momma’s milk...just look at those cheeks and double chin!!! A newborn screening is a public health service done in each U.S. state that tests for a group of health disorders that might not be apparent at birth. Typically a screen is done at birth then at 2 weeks of life. Each state screening test varies so you will need to check with your specific state for more information. The second screen is done because some of these problems are not detected until the baby has been eating for a while. As seen in the picture, five drops of blood are placed on a piece of paper. A heel stick is used to obtain this sample. The paper is then sent to the state lab for testing. Time to get results can vary, but typically take 2-4 weeks. In Alabama, the newborn screen tests for things such as congenital hypothyroidism, adrenal hyperplasia, galactosemia, hemoglobinopathy, cystic fibrosis, etc. A baby also has a hearing and congenital heart defect screening done at birth (in most states) and these results will be available immediately. What happens if your child’s newborn screen is abnormal? Your healthcare provider will be given specific guidelines/recommendations by the state depending on which part of the screen is abnormal. Oftentimes a repeat newborn screen is the only recommendation and other times more involved blood work will be needed.
