“I am that little girl.” I’ve been feeling some kind of way since Kamala became the VP choice. I was all in since last year for her, so yes I was thrilled and relieved and just plain hopeful for the first time in a long time. But there was something else I couldn’t quite place-until I started reading the reactions of thousands of women like me: Children of a South Asian parent, mixed race, and finally represented. Even as a fan of hers from the beginning, I hadn’t understood how important that part would be to me personally- yet. As I have almost always been assumed white, and treated as such with all the privilege that entails, you can see my dad was not. After he died, and memories fade, I’d forgotten about the indignities thrown his way (accent- so must not be smart, smells funny, etc)- and so many I never saw. I also forgot along the way (see: privilege) that I’m not actually white as far as this country is concerned. 2017 knocked that convenient, privileged blinder right off. This photo sums up my childhood for me: This is my mixed-race family who loved me and taught me what it means to be compassionate AND empathetic; to accept all people equally “until they show you who they are”; and to stand up for what you believe in-always. Our early 1970s world was completely normal to me. It still is. Vijay gave me my half-Indian blood and the rich culture and food and family history that goes with it. He gave me my penchant for drama and a heart that has room for everyone, even when it doesn’t. He certainly gave me my wicked sense of humor and ability to make faces that send children running 😂 And today, on the 32nd anniversary of the day he left this world(?!), I know without a doubt how over the moon he is with Kamala representing the communities he championed: women, Indians, Black, Brown, and Jamaican. (Dad loved their most famous son 😉) And it turns out I’ve not forgotten the roots he planted in me, and that my mother continued to foster when he no longer could in person. Now go VOTE to honor our Ancestors and secure the future they fought for!! SER MAESTRA ME PERSIGUE! Una historia de la vida misma... . Si algún día quisiera darme un castigo divino sería : “ vas a ser maestra de primaria por el resto de tu vida” pero ley de vida “ dime de que reniegas para que te llegue en abundancia” . Cuando quería estudiar comunicación social y no conseguí el índice directo para entrar en la carrera en la UCAB ( porque era muy mala en matemática) tuve que hacer un año de Educación Integral y obtener 17 de promedio para luego pedir el cambio a comunicación social. Di clases en la Vega todas las semanas en 4to grado y me preguntaba: Cómo existe gente con vocación para esto? Porque yo estaba de paso, mi objetivo era otro. . Luego al entrar a comunicación social mate mil tigres dando clases como maestra suplente en el Instituto Cumbres de Caracas. Créanme que me torturaba, pero pagaban buenísimo. . Jamás quise trabajar en un campamento de chama, los bailecitos, las canciones, cientos de Niños NOOOO eso era el infierno para mi !! Sin embargo termine dando clases de teatro comunitario en Merida a los niños del Páramo, y lo hice con amor. . Ahora en 2020 cuando pensé haberme librado de este karma cósmico me toca ser maestra intensiva en inglés y español de mi hijo de 8:00 am a 3:30pm . Ha sido un acto de amor insólito!!! De paciencia extrema. A veces quiero llorar, huir, gritar pero sigo al pie del cañon y admiro profundamente a quienes de verdad hacen esto por pasión!!! I have had times in my life where i have really struggled with my mental health. Behind even the sunniest of smiles there can be an untold story. There can be pain and immense sadness. We truely have no idea what someone is going through. In the depths of depression feeling there was no way out, i couldn’t find my light, my smile, my soul and felt those feelings of will this lift or is it even worth it. I was very good at pretending, putting on a face to the outside world so many didn’t know. I had been this bubbly positive energy for so long i didn’t feel people would understand, it was really confronting and didn’t want people to see me that way or judge. Internally it was turmoil and those who were there first hand really did know. (I am forever grateful). Along with professional help, trusting that I was still in there - the main thing that got me through was my beautiful family and support network & talking about it. Letting myself feel and knowing that some days nothing would make it feel better and that was okay. With the timing of R U OK day it really could not be more timely given the current circumstances. A lot of people are not okay and it’s completely understandable. Sometimes we are better at looking after others than we are ourselves. We are kinder to our friends & family than we are to ourselves. We can acknowledge others struggles and suppress our own. So i am asking rather than just when we are reminded to, we need to be checking everyday - we also need to sit down and ask ourselves if we are okay. Let’s get comfortable to dig deeper when things are not normal and become comfortable with truely being there for those we care about. Let’s remove the stigma. There is nothing stronger than someone being vulnerable, showing that they are human. You really could give glimmers of hope, soften those clouds of darkness or save a life. I hope everyone is doing okay. Seek small positive energies in your day. Feel that sunshine and watch those beautiful colours rise and fall each day. Let’s be kind to ourselves and to others. For #HispanicHeritageMonth, were exploring the history of @sociosensalud, as Partners In Health is known in Peru.⠀ ⠀ 1️⃣ Father Jack Roussin, Dr. Jaime Bayona, Dr. Paul Farmer, Dr. Jim Kim, and Ophelia Dahl founded Socios En Salud in September of 1994.⠀ 2️⃣ In 1994, Father Jack brought together 12 people in Carabayllo, one of Lima’s poorest districts, to find the primary problems affecting their community.⠀ 3️⃣ On July 8th, 1996, Socios En Salud became official when a few doctors, medical students, nurses and a secretary joined the cause. ⠀ 4️⃣ Clinical support isn’t the only thing SES workers do, they make frequent house visits to provide support in any way possible. ⠀ 5️⃣ SES workers worked to address basic social determinants of health by providing support in nutrition, housing, transportation, clinical cost, education and employment. ⠀ 6️⃣ In 1999, the first group of 75 Multidrug-resistant (MDR) TB patients finished treatment with a high cure rate of 83% (the highest in the world at the time).⠀ 7️⃣ MDR-TB—previously a death sentence—was shown to the world to be treatable in a resource-poor setting. It was a powerful message that even in its deadliest form, we can cure this disease.⠀ 8️⃣ 24 years after SES was founded, it has grown to nearly 500 employees and reached thousands of beneficiaries in Peru. Yesterday was a pretty big day! The kids enjoyed themselves to the fullest and it made my worrying mama heart so happy! I love their school and their teachers beyond words and am SO grateful for all of the hard work and endless effort they put into making their school The Absolute Best! .... but like... it’s still me and I thought I would share some total fails with you that happened yesterday 💀💀🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️😂👏🏻 So I packed the kids lunches the night before (I shared on stories 👍🏻 🍏) Well at around 10am I got an email from Wentworth’s teacher reading “Wentworth’s lunchbox looks really full” and remind me that it was noon dismissal!! 😂👏🏻 for some reason it made me laugh so hard!! *** I’d rather send too much food than not enough!! 💀🤦🏻♀️ I knew it was noon dismissal but my late-night-lunch-packing-self didn’t put the pieces together. 🧩 Second thing— I didn’t put lentils in Avalina’s lunch box!!!! 🤦🏻♀️💀🤦🏻♀️ Argo she only had snacks to eat all day!!! Oh my gooooosh mom of the year award right here!! She told me as soon as I picked her up and we laughed about it and I of course apologized, I couldn’t believe I did that!! That is like... middle of the year behavior... not first day of school behavior!!! 🤦🏻♀️💀 Needless to say She had a hearty after school “snack” 😂 You win some... you lose some, but as a mom I feel like I lose every single day; yet somehow my kids still love me ♥️ - @thewadsquad1 on Instagram

I was in the ninth grade when my family started talking about my marriage. But I kept fighting with my parents and told them that I wanted to complete my education. They were persistent because the man who was willing to marry me was well to do. The man himself told his parents that hed wait for two years until I completed my studies. Neither of our parents was willing to listen to us. We got married and within a week, he filed for divorce. It wasnt a very pleasant chapter of my life...I was young, and I was divorced. After a few years, I remarried. Two years into the marriage, I found out that my husband was having an affair with another woman. I couldnt take it, so I told him to end whatever it was. First, he denied it, then he started ignoring me and gradually things started to break down. At that point, I realised that I had to make something of my life and I just couldnt depend on my husband. Ive been selling nimbu paani for about 8 years now, and I am the sole earner for the family. I just wish that I didnt have to face this burden & my husband wouldnt just waste my money. જૂનાગઢ-2 કેન્દ્રનું પરિણામ માત્ર 12.28 શિક્ષકોની ઘટ જૂનાગઢ: માધ્યમિક અને ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યમિક શિક્ષણ બોર્ડ દ્વારા ધોરણ 12 સામાન્ય પ્રવાહની પરીક્ષા લેવામાં આવી હતી,જેનું ગુરૂવારે પરિણામ જાહેર થયું છે. જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લાનું છેલ્લા પાંચ વર્ષનું સૌથી કંગાળ પરિણામ આવ્યું છે. જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લામાં 16 કેન્દ્ર પર પરીક્ષા લેવામાં આવી હતી. જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લામાં 17163 છાત્રો નોંધાયા હતાં, તે પૈકી 16932 છાત્રોએ પરીક્ષા આપી હતી તેમાંથી 8569 છાત્રો ઉર્તીણ થયા છે. જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લાનું 50.61 ટકા પરિણામ આવ્યું છે. ગત વર્ષે જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લાનું 51.27 ટકા પરિણામ હતું. ચાલુ વર્ષે 0.66 ટકાનો ઘટાડો થયો ચાલુ વર્ષે એ1 ગ્રેડ મેળવનાર છાત્રો 9 છે, જે ગત વર્ષની સરખામણીએ 2 ઓછા છે. જિલ્લાનાં 16 કેન્દ્રોમાં જૂનાગઢ-2 કેન્દ્રનું 12.28 ટકા જ પરિણામ આવ્યું છે. ધોરણ 12 સામાન્ય પ્રવાહનું વર્ષ 2014માં 67.68 ટકા પરિણામ આવ્યું હતું, બાદ દર વર્ષે પરિણામમાં ઘટાડો થઇ રહ્યો છે. છેલ્લા 5 વર્ષમાં ધોરણ 12 સામાન્ય પ્રવાહનાં પરિણામમાં 17.07 ટકા ઘટાડો થયો છે. બીજી તરફ જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લામાં ગ્રાન્ટેડ અને સરકારી હાઇસ્કુલમાં આચાર્ય અને શિક્ષકોની મોટા પ્રમાણમાં ઘટ છે. જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લામાં ગ્રાન્ટેડ હાઇસ્કુલ 238 છે. આ સ્કુલમાં 117 આચાર્ય અને 160 શિક્ષકોની ઘટ છે.જિલ્લામાં 17 સરકારી હાઇસ્કુલ છે,જેમાં 13 આચાર્ય અને 12 શિક્ષકની ઘટ છે. જિલ્લામાં માત્ર 4 આચાર્યથી સરકારી હાઇસ્કુલ ચાલી રહી છે. શિક્ષકોની ભરતી નહી થાય તો આગામી વર્ષે પણ જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લાનું પરિણામ કંગાળ જ રહેશે. - @aapdu_junagadh_ on Instagram

Today has been a day of contemplation. @noseyparkyn woke to the sad news that E J Osborne had died. The teacher that showed me how to select wood and carve spoons, appreciate craft and embrace the concept of a portfolio career. Effortlessly stylish, endlessly kind and one of the funniest people I have ever had the pleasure of hanging out with. Our house has mementos of time spent with EJ , spoons and implements created by those marvellously tattooed hands and I carve with the knives that he sold. I had never really found the right thing to reciprocate with until I was doing #communityclaytime. On plucking bull terriers from the goldfish bowl I took inspiration from the beautiful #swan,EJ’s running buddy and family companion. I feel so glad that I finally got the chance to give something back and that we had contact during this time. A life well lived though cruelly short. Rest in peace ❤️ - @jimparkyn on Instagram

September 2016 - I had the pleasure of being the medical technician for this stud. At the thought of not passing my test and prolonging his inpatient stay he was extremely anxious and sad. While prepping him he shared his life story with me. I cheered him on during his test and thankfully, he passed. Shortly after he was discharged. He urged me to come to the Veteran’s Day event the following weekend so that I could meet his wife. He greeted me with a huge hug and smiling face. He explained how thankful he was that I was his technician that day. The best way I celebrate Veteran’s Day is by serving other Vets. We want to share some very exciting news, we have been awarded a grant to buy an Animal Ambulance to serve the street animals of Kolkata 🚑 . This vehicle will allow us to treat more animals and navigate the area of Behala more efficiently, creating a safer environment for both animals and staff. . This grant was awarded to APA by ‘The Marchig Animal Welfare Trust’ which was established in 1989 by the late Madame Jeanne Marchig of Geneva, because of her deep concern for nature and animals and in memory of her husband, the painter Giannino Marchig. . The objects of the Trust are to protect animals and to promote and encourage practical work in preventing animal cruelty and the relief of animal suffering.
