⚡️Lucien Le Moine, Criots Bâtard Montrachet 2013 Now available on our Coravin list, so you can enjoy it by the glass! Lucien Le Moine is the most trendy micro négociant in Burgundys Côte de Beaune region. The wine is bought immediately following fermentation, and Lucien Le Moine is responsible for élevage. Wines are aged on their lees, and malolactic fermentation is put off as long as possible to produce softer wines with fewer sulphites. Depending on the vintage, batonnage is used to maximize contact with the lees. Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet is the only grand cru vineyard, and one of the smallest grand cru that lies entirely within the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet. It is located on the southeast-facing midslope of the Montrachet hill at the southern end of the Bâtard-Montrachet climate. The Criots vineyard is planted with Chardonnay grapes, making complex and rich white wines that are considered among the best in the world. Tasting notes: An overtly exotic nose features ripe and fresh notes of mostly dried yellow orchard fruit aromas that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. Racy aromas of almond blossom and honey hint. At once rich and penetrating, with a flavour of peach oil enlivened by powerful minerality. Harvest series continues with 🍇✨🍷FERMENTATION✨🍷 The very process that turns grape juice into the wine we love! Wouldn’t be possible without magical little yeast that consume sugars, turning them into alcohol (plus carbon dioxide & some other byproducts). This is the most complex part of winemaking. Not to mention that there’s countless yeast strains to choose from depending on variety and a whole other number of factors. So, let’s keep it simple for this post with a few winemaking considerations around fermentation. 🍇✨ Spontaneous fermentation vs. yeast inoculation All grapes have yeasts naturally on their skins & there are yeasts in the winery, so fermentation will begin spontaneously. Some winemakers may choose to inoculate with yeast cultures to start fermentation or for desired effects certain yeast strains may have on a wine. 🍇✨ Fermentation Vessel - winemakers can choose from a whole range of vessels for fermentation Steel tanks (the easiest to clean!), Concrete tanks (allow for the tiniest bit of micro-oxygenation),Concrete Eggs, Oak barrels (barrel fermentation gives a softer, rounder mouthfeel & texture), amphorae... 🍇✨ Cap management As CO2 & heat are released during fermentation, the grape skins are pushed to the top of the wine, forming a cap. Punch downs or pump overs are used to wet the cap & ensure the grapes skins stay in contact with the juice. Pump overs are a bit more gentle, taking juice from the bottom of the tank & pumping it back over the cap. Piegage is also a gentler form of punching down, using your feet to break up the cap. Punch downs/pump overs are usually done 2x per day AM & PM, depending on the winemaker’s goals. Temperature & brix measured 2x daily to monitor fermentation. Sometimes additions, like DAP (diammonium phosphate) or other nutrients are added during fermentation as food for the yeast. Happy National Hispanic Heritage Month! 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 From Sept 15-October 15, we celebrate and recognize the contributions made and the important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and celebrate our heritage’s rich history and lasting impact on culture as we know it. I will be spotlighting wines from Mexican Winemakers, Mexican Vineyard Managers & Workers and wine from Mexico this month. 🇲🇽🍷 First up: @stolpmanvineyards, La Cuadrilla 2018 Red Blend. It’s made in California (Ballard Canyon), but all grapes are picked by vineyard workers who are all Mexican and Spanish decent. ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 When Tom Stolpman purchased the land that is now Stolpman Vineyards, he declared that if his dream of owning a vineyard was to come true, it would not be on the backs of people being taken advantage of. He asked Vineyard Manager, Ruben Solorzano to employ the vineyard workers year-round, so the team members could have a steady job, a career, and raise their families with security. Ruben ran with the idea and wanted the crew members to learn the lifecycle of the vine and become engaged and passionate about their work. He also started a training program in which he gave one Cuadra - a small vineyard block - to his team so they would take responsibility for their land. Each crew member became the farmer rather than just the worker. A few years later, once the crew had independently mastered vineyard management, Ruben revealed his grand experiment to Mr. Stolpman. Thrilled, Tom declared that all of the wine made from the crew’s training Cuadra would be given to the team members for their own consumption. Having the self-titled wine at the dinner table served as both a source of pride and a chance to appreciate fine wine, the fruits of the crew’s labor! Today, 10% of the vineyard’s production goes into the blend. The profits are returned to the crew members, divided by seniority, in the form of year-end bonuses. Because Ruben rotates the Cuadra to a different area of the vineyard each year, the blend of La Cuadrilla changes each vintage. How cool is this Vineyard Manager! We would like to inform you that after further conversations with Doral city officials and the most recent announcement from the Florida Government regarding the coronavirus outbreak, along with the cancellation of other major events that were taking place in the month of March, the Doral Food & Wine Festival has been postponed until further notice, which was originally scheduled for March 21 and 22, 2020. How do you toast the twilight? ✨ Sound 🔊 for tranquil waves💧 ⠀ When we drove out to Presquile two weeks ago, we got turned around trying to find our campsite 🏕 After a few twists, our car emerged facing Lake Ontario right at twilight 😲🌟 I was so overwhelmed by the sheer beauty of this vast expanse of dusky lavender and egg shell hues, that I knew we needed to get back out there and enjoy it properly (and not while panicking over the incoming darkness and need to set up camp 🙃)⠀ ⠀ It took a lot of ice, but we managed to keep our 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟖 @featherstonewinery 𝑬𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑹𝒐𝒔é cold for 2 days in anticipation of our little journey. Against the dwindling light, the gentle roar of the lake, skipping stones, this stellar blend of Cabernet Franc (42%) 🌹 Gamay (26%) 🌹 Pinot Noir (24%) 🌹 and Merlot (8%) 🌹 was the perfect way to just soak in the present moment. Nel nostro ruolo di enoscout, cerchiamo spesso prodotti di alta qualità ad un prezzo competitivo. Tra le varie denominazioni, gli IGT sono forse la categoria nella quale ci divertiamo maggiormente a portare avanti le nostre ricerche.🔎 Il disciplinare più permissivo, consente molto spesso ai produttori di sperimentare ed esprimere il massimo di quanto la terra consente loro di produrre. Oggi vogliamo portare sul tavolo una di queste bottiglie. La cantina @santacristinawines è di per sé una garanzia, dal 1946 produttori di vini di qualità, sono situati in un’alta collina della Toscana non lontano da Siena e Perugia. E’ proprio il nome della regione a comparire in etichetta, evidente l’intento di valorizzare il territorio, con ispirazione allo stile francese di portare in etichetta il nome del cru. Toscana IGT 2018 è un blend di diversi vitigni: Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet e Sangiovese. Ogni varietà viene vinificata separatamente in acciaio inox 🍷 👀 Alla vista si presenta rosso rubino con riflessi violacei che preannunciano un vino giovane e fresco. 👃 Al naso sorprende per la sua potenza e complessità, emergono infatti sentori fruttati e floreali, note speziate di pepe ed erbacee come la foglia di pomodoro. Tale varietà di sentori è data probabilmente dalla grande varietà di vitigni che compone il blend (nota speziata dallo Syrah, erbacea dal Cabernet). 👄 La stessa potenza avvertita in precedenza la troviamo anche in bocca, è secco, deciso, con una spiccata acidità accompagnata da una giusta sapidità, un tannino avvolgente ed un tocco di morbidezza dato dall’alcool (13 gradi). La chiusura ricorda la mandorla amara, piacevole e abbastanza persistente. La bottiglia viene proposta ad un prezzo che riteniamo davvero ottimo rapportato alle qualità di questo vino e ci sentiamo di consigliarvela. @didyouknow173 Also referred to as a kick-up or a punt, the dimple in the bottom of your wine bottle is a remnant from the past, when the bottles were made of handblown glass. If the glassblower didnt push the seam of the bottom of the wine bottle up, it would not stand up straight (because there would be a lump). Today, a deeper punt can mean its a nicer, tastier bottle of wine. So run your hand underneath that bottle of vino before purchasing! Dreaming of the last days of summer....😎💜 It’s over 5 months since i’ve done my “ALBUM OF THE DAY” & it’s been wonderful! It has brightened my day & hopefully yours too.
