#tbt to a dude who couldnt say no⠀ ⠀ I have thought long and hard about the person in those pictures over the years and always asked myself one question, What was I doing then that was holding me back from becoming a better version of myself everyday?.⠀ ⠀ The common thread that I have come up with from those pictures of me in 2011 & 2015 is that I was someone really struggling with saying NO to anything or anyone in my life because I am a people pleaser who was afraid to let people down with the fear they would not like me (still working on these).⠀ ⠀ I was saying yes to things that were holding me back, but also saying yes to things I knew would help me take the next step in my life. ⠀ ⠀ Something had to give...⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Want to stay up late and go out? YES!⠀ Want to get up early and workout? YES!⠀ Want to have an extra shot before leaving the bar ? YES!⠀ Want to be focused at work to accomplish your goals? YES!⠀ Want to go on a trip every weekend? YES!⠀ Want to stay home and focus on your goals? YES!⠀ Want to be stuck in a cycle of not chasing your dreams because you keep saying yes? YES!!!!⠀ ⠀ I have spent years working on this worthy endeavor of finding that balance of when to say yes, say no, and say nothing at all. Priya Ramrakha was a Kenyan photojournalist of South Asian descent and one of the first Africans to be given a contract by Life and Time magazines. Ramrakha work is rare because when photos of Africa were mostly taken by Western photographers who showed Africans through a colonial lens, Ramrakha was one of the first photographers to document Africa - its people and politics - from an African perspective. As he captured political and military movements across Africa and documented the anti-colonial and post-independent struggles of Africa, Priya situated these as human experiences, of real people - not just of suffering but also of community and celebration. His broad portfolio includes capturing civil rights leaders Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X in the United States. In 1968, while covering the Nigerian Civil War, Priya was killed in an ambush near Owerri by Biafran soldiers. He was only 33 years old. It took a while for me to post this, because I still don’t feel that comfortable with sharing my physique on social media. However, I thought by myself f*ck it; it’s something to be proud of after all these years of hard work. • The left picture is taken in May 2014 and the right picture last summer. In my first (~3) years of training I had very little knowledge about nutrition (and training in general). I ate a lot of crap and I thought that protein shakes were some kind of magic muscle building elixer. I have always been a hardgainer, which made it very difficult for me to put on muscle mass (especially when you’re not eating right). In my last two years of training I started really focusing on progressive overload and eating in a caloric surplus, which has led to the best progress I’ve made in all my years of training. • I am extremely proud when I look at my personal transformation. It’s not just my transformed body, but it is a representation of all the hard work and consistency I put in over the past few years 💪🏼 Back in 2014 I could’ve never imagined the impact that fitness was going to have on my life. Going on this fitness journey has been thé best decision of my life. I’ve grown so much as a person, I’ve learned to push my limits, and I’ve met so many amazing people with the same mindset (you all know who you are). Um dos maiores questionamentos que eu recebo é o seguinte : é mais fácil emagrecer ou ganhar massa muscular? 🤔. Então, na verdade, não existe o mais fácil ou mais difícil. Ambas as opções requerem mudanças nos hábitos alimentares, treinos, tempo de descanso, enfim, uma série de fatores. O que posso afirmar pra vocês é que uma das opções é mais rápida que a outra. Para vocês terem uma ideia, na foto 1 @eumarcovicenso perdeu 32 kg em 5 mêses. Na foto 2, foram 10 meses para @daniele_a_duarte conquistar um aumento de 6kg de massa magra.
