The Alhambra Apartments are located at 4902 Capitol in the Dundee neighborhood. Completed in 1922, the Mission/Spanish Colonial Revival structure was built by the Drake Realty Construction Company amid a multi-family housing boom in the neighborhood. The building still stands today and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as a member of the Dundee-Happy Hollow Historic District. There are two other extant buildings in Omaha built by Drake in this design: the Hanscom Apartments at 1029 Park Ave, and the Palmer Apartments at 554 S. 26th St. ———————————————————————————— Source: Bostwick-Frohardt Collection, Durham Museum Photo Archive. Lets go to the Lyons House in Carberry for this #ManitobaMonday! This building was built during the 1890s with a combination of Italianate and Queen Anne structure styles. The politician Robert Fern Lyons and his family were first to occupy the home. Sadly, this grand home is now vacant and crumbling, wishing for someone to restore it back to its former glory. 📸 Carberry Plains Museum #carberry #Manitoba #threatenedheritage #historichome #heritage #buildinghistory - @heritagewpg on Instagram

Then/Now Old Mill Site A mill has existed at this site as far back as 1757. For more than two centuries, it was a manufacturing staple for the area, producing wool, grist, cotton, and more, but by the 1990’s it was abandoned and mostly burned down. Luckily since then, the surviving building has been restored and serves as the headquarters for the local historical society. - @empireexplorer on Instagram

Putting a few faces to the names of 12+ headstones at Evergreen Cemetery that were defaced with blue paint over the weekend. As written in their obituaries, the individuals whose headstones were defaced led successful lives in Austin as church leaders and school teachers. Many were born at the turn of the century and grew up in rural Central Texas freedom colonies like Littig and St. John’s Colony 🕊 Evergreen Cemetery was established by the City of Austin in 1926 as the first municipal graveyard for Black residents. Thank you to @tonyaforconstable for compiling a list of affected headstones: David & Carolyn T. - This is possibly the first ever photograph of a ‘recording studio’. It was taken some time in 1898 at 31, Maiden Lane, London, where the Gramophone Co set up their first permanent recording room.[553x443]

An old #TBT newspaper clipping of Laurel Hill (aka: Randolph) Mansion. Built in 1767 by Rebecca Rawle, in 1828 it was purchased Dr. Philip Syng Physick, known as the Father of American Surgery. Its no surprise that a prominent doctor would see the advantage of having a country house to escape the repeated outbreaks of disease in colonial Philadelphia that puts our current crisis in perspective. Although decades had passed since the Yellow Fever scourge (that Dr. Physick himself survived), cholera broke out in the city in July 1832. And once again, a privileged class was able to socially distance at their summer homes, many that now comprise the Park Charms. Thankfully, the creation of Fairmount Park saved these houses from the ravages of progress. And fortunately, an early incarnation of the park saved many people from the ravages of cholera. Philadelphia’s death rates were one-quarter those in New York and one-twelfth of Montreal because of comparably clean and available water from the Fairmount Reservoir (Water Works) for drinking, bathing, and cleaning the streets. 💚🌳💚🌿💚🌳💚🌿💚 The park system now allows for more equatable access to the green space that remains a literal lifeline of physical and mental health. 1910: As the SOMAGeneralstore.com site shows, shopping options in our area have been expanding for some time. Back when the pace of life was slower, Cornell’s Meat Market occupied the spot at the intersection of Brookside Drive and Old Short Hills Road. The structure was originally a private home; then it held the butcher shop, and after that, ownership passed to the Millburn Township, which used it for its first library. . #mshmagazine #millburn #millburnnj #shorthills #shorthillsnj #recordarchives @therecordarchives #vintage #vintagephoto #vintagephotography @somageneralstore - @mshmagazine on Instagram
