The fact that we can lay our son in his crib and walk away without protest is a game changer! ➡️SWIPE TO READ➡️We’re so excited to announce that we’re collaborating with @shedrewthat for a 4 week residency for 3 female freelance animators wanting to develop their skills as directors. This residency will surround the creation of a 15-30 second animation. During production, the @strangebeasttv team will hold lectures, feedback and mentoring sessions to help our residents through each stage of animation, from pitching through to directing sound @annaginsburg and @hannahjacobs_animates, two incredible directors, will be leading our lectures during this residency and mentoring our residents over the 4 week period. The residency will be held on 17th August - 11th September with lectures weekly. This residency is a career development program for women and is free to participate in. We recognise that taking 4 weeks out of freelancing is expensive and that juggling a commitment of this nature alongside paying work would be difficult. We believe the guidance and access to resources provided during this residency as well as the resulting showreel piece will be worth the investment of time. Criteria We are looking for women who have had at least two years’ work experience in the animation industry and who want to develop their skills and focus their talents to succeed as future Directors. ⁉️Do I need to cut out carbs to manage INSULIN RESISTANCE? 🔆Luke answers: The idea is not to go “no-carb”, but “low carb”, by knowing which are the right carbs to eat, what to cut down on, how to cut down on and how much to eat. Carbohydrates are an important macronutrient and a lot of natural foods like fruits and vegetables, whole grain have it. By going zero carbohydrates, we open ourselves to another set of health issues like low energy levels, mood swings, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, low immunity, etc. When diagnosed with insulin resistance, you must aim for smart carbohydrate intake, consume complex carbohydrates and avoid refined carbohydrates, pair with fibre, nuts, seeds to low the overall glycaemic load, and eat during the early hours of the day, so that your body can effectively use that as a fuel. Eating heaps of carbohydrate-rich foods at night, coupled with a sedentary lifestyle is definitely going to worsen your insulin resistance. So, the problem is with carbs or lifestyle? Additionally, there is another type of carbs called resistant starch, which is great for diabetics and those with insulin resistance because these carbohydrates resist digestion in the small intestine, and do not cause spikes in sugar levels. After resisting digestion in the small intestine, they travel to the large intestine and get converted to butyric acid and form SCFA (short-chain fatty acids), which in turn boost gut health. I was scrolling through Facebook this morning + noticed a bunch of folks have added ‘temporary profile pictures’ of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. You know those ones that evidently self-destruct in 7 days or something? 💣 . Now I completely understand the need for these tributes. After all, Ruth was a pioneer of equality + a trailblazing feminist. In the ‘70s, she conceived/tried numerous cases that established constitutional protections against gender discrimination. She was famous for her passionate yet level-headed dissents + she tirelessly defended equal justice + civil rights. Ruth fought for the marginalised as a Jewish woman who grew up excluded - driven + motivated by her Judaism. . It’s no secret I’m an advocate for the issues for which Ruth stood - yet I can’t help but feel uneasy with all the temporary tributes. Surely honouring this remarkable women shouldn’t be a trend? Surely it shouldn’t be so brazenly temporary (and dare I say it, performative)? Surely celebrating her legacy ought to be an every day occurrence, via our actions + intent? . Now am I having a go at you if you popped up a temporary profile pic? No! I am glad you are honouring her! Yet I DO hope you can keep the tribute up long after the RBG meme fades back to your selfie🤳In fact, in the words of Ruth herself: “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” Hard agree! . If you want to honour the incredible Ruth Bader Ginsburg, please don’t limit it to a meme + zany tote bag. Honour her by using your privileges to dismantle inequitable systems. Honour her by consistently showing up for racial justice, climate justice, anti-Semitism, womxn’s rights, disabled people’s rights, LGBTQIA+ rights + immigrants’ rights. Honour her by striving for common sense in the face of archaic adversity. Honour her by amplifying the incredible work of the womxn from whom you draw inspiration. . While Ruth may be gone, her legacy thrives in the work of EVERY SINGLE WOMXN who consistently champions equality. The AI Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions is a cross-discipline collaboration between 20 physicists and seven AI experts from Harvard, @mitpics, @northeastern, and @tuftsuniversity. In a kind of virtuous circle, the effort will use artificial intelligence to solve problems in fundamental physics and use principles of fundamental physics to improve and understand methods in AI. The scientists believe that doing this will lead to more effective, efficient, and interpretable AI. This will ultimately improve research and knowledge of the fundamental interactions in the universe, from the smallest to largest scales.
