So about two months ago someone was murdered in front of our house in their vehicle. It was all pretty traumatizing for us to witness. Then the person in the car fell onto the gas and totaled our van. It’s been a lot to process. The worst part was having to deal with some material possession of ours entangled in this that distracts from processing what happened normally. without a constant afterthought of how it impacted how we operate our daily life.(aside from band related income the vehicle covered essential travel and other means of supplementary income thru this pandemic)but it’s also hard to let go and say goodbye to something we practically called home for 3 years and allowed us to survive and sustain. This situation was so beyond our control it’s hard to grapple with that each day. We made a lot of memories in that van and it was refuge. I wish it wasn’t ours. We wish we could’ve helped, but no amount of rolling the tape back shows an observable difference. Insurance covered what we still owed on the van and that’s all she wrote for it. We currently don’t have consistent income and I’d suggest buy our records but we only see profit from our latest releases. Our friend made us a gofundme me and encouraged us to try and replace the van this way. If you have the means to help we would be incredibly grateful. Link in bio Love y’all. Towards the end of September I was involved in a car accident, hit from behind; totaling my car. I had to take off almost a month off of work, physical therapy, x-rays, and I was unable to walk without limping. During this time I began lose myself...beginning to wonder WHY this happened to me. But God is intentional. I’m blessed to get the car of my dreams, passed all my health tests, and have been cleared to go back to work. I had to learn how to trust God MORE, giving him the things I could not control and understand that he STILL has a plan for me. I am super grateful for my job, my friends and my family that have supported me on this chapter of my journey; REAL is hard to come by. In the last week or so I’ve seen the pandemic finally start to overwhelm our hospitals. Previously we’d been seeing a slow trickle of very sick patients through A&E. Those patients were almost exclusively suffering with CoV. They have now filled up our intensive care beds in many hospitals and with no more capacity we have no choice but to keep people comfortable and allow them to die. Now more than ever it’s important to stay socially isolated and slow the spread of this virus. The vast majority of young people only have mild symptoms or none at all. But you may still be shedding virus. It’s the elderly man you walk past on the street. Or the diabetic mother in the queue behind you who will get seriously sick. Thankfully we’re barely seeing any children affected at all. One thing to reflect on is how few people are coming to hospital with anything other than CoV. A&E would usually be full to the brim with people suffering from minor complaints. This shows how horribly abused Emergency Department’s are during non-pandemic times. When this is all over and we have survived, our hospitals, politicians and people need to reflect on this. We need to re-set the status quo that Emergency Departments are for emergencies only! Don’t worry. This story has a happy ending:) I got a call from Linda this morning about a kitten stuck in the storm drainage canal outside the Jazz daiquiri on Louisiana and Claiborne. With the storm drain cover removed, we were able to see clear across Louisiana (underground). We could hear it, but not see the kitten. It is supposed to rain this afternoon, sometime was a factor in getting the kitten about before the canal filled with water. The had hidden down one of the Ts in the lines, along with roaches and god knows what else I saw down there. We set a tiny trap in the line and within an hour, we had our newest rescue safely out of the storm drain!! This room has been a lifesaver in lockdown, it’s been great to bung stuff in and shut the door. DEARBORN, Mich. (WDIV) A national Arab American foundation, based in Dearborn, has raised more than $180,000 to help support the ongoing relief efforts in Lebanon following the deadly explosion in August. The Center for Arab American Philanthropy (CAAP) joined an effort by the Lebanon Relief Project, a nationally coordinated initiative led by the American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL) and the Ghassan and Manal Saab Foundation—to urgently airlift critical medical and pharmaceutical supplies and equipment to Lebanon in the aftermath of the explosion. Since the explosion, the continued fundraising efforts benefitting the Lebanon Relief Project through CAAP’s Disaster Relief Fund have resulted in over $180,000 raised so far. Funds have been used to help the Lebanon Relief Project airlift over $12.7 million in high value medications and supplies to Beirut on August 24, and most recently, over $6 million on September 29. Due to the critical need and high demand, the group now has plans to airlift more supplies in the near future. 100% of all donations raised through CAAP’s continued fundraising efforts will go towards airlifting essential supplies and equipment and supporting relief efforts in Lebanon. This latest project builds on the success of the recent CAAP campaign launched on August 5, which resulted in a $75,155 grant to the Lebanese Red Cross to support their on-the-ground relief work. The blast in Beirut on Aug. 4 killed more than 175 people, injured at least 6,000 and left tens of thousands homeless. Even before the explosion, Lebanon was dealing with increasing poverty, economic collapse and corruption, while in the midst of a pandemic. It’s still not known what sparked the fire that ignited nearly 3,000 tons of ammonium nitrate that were stored for years in Beirut’s port next to densely populated residential areas. Documents have emerged that show the country’s top leadership and security officials were aware of the stockpile. A social distanced covid cleanup! Stopplastics did a trial run cleanup following all of the rules in these times of the corona virus. There were three of us...we each brought our own supplies, we distanced while walking and we cleaned up a mess of plastic waste. The cleanup took place in south Etobicoke along lakeshore blvd. and some side streets. It was blazing hot so our pace was slow. Nonetheless we managed to pick up a lot of stuff in the short time we were out there...lots of water bottles, candy wrappers, cigarette butts,plastic gloves and of course plastic bags. And the journey begins... I’m so grateful that @cbcpodcasts is supporting me in developing a story that I’ve been wanting to explore for a long time. Years ago, my grandfather shared with me that his mother had a sister whose Blackfoot name, Maa’tai’poyi/Kaa’tai’poyi, translated to “She Doesn’t Speak.” She was unable to speak and was placed in a couple of psychiatric institutions in Alberta because of her disability. We know very little of her time in these institutions and we don’t even know where she was laid to rest. In fact, we don’t even know what her English name was. This part of my great-grandmother’s life was very painful and she spoke very little of her sister. It breaks my heart to think about how isolated Maa’tai’poyi/Kaa’tai’poyi must have felt in these institutions where no one spoke Blackfoot or understood the sign language she used with her family. I hope to be able to do justice to her story and do my best to bring her home. . . I got tested on Tuesday in Standoff and want to give a shout out to the incredibly hardworking frontline staff of Blood Tribe EMS and public health, who are working tirelessly to keep our community safe. Working with the podcast medium for the first time in the era of COVID makes for an interesting journey. I’ll be masking up and doing interviews outside while practicing social distancing and disinfecting all the equipment before and after every interview. . . The first portrait is of my great-grandmother, Nellie Tailfeathers. The second is of my grandfather, Lester Tailfeathers. COVID 19 is a big distraction to the environmental movement in Cameroon. To many, people COVID 19 presents a life threatening situation and requires more urgent action than environmental issues. The enthusiasm and passion that many had before the pandemic has dropped . People are more concerned about how they will survive in the face of the pandemic rather than engaging in eco-friendly activities. This might not be the case in other parts of the world but in Cameroon this has been my observation. I’ve been debating in my head whether or not to share this for a while. However, seeing how this world has become, and seeing more and more people live their lives in fear in each moment has made me realize maybe sharing this experience could help others see life in a new perspective. Just a little while ago, I was hit by an 18 wheeler going way above the speed limit. It was only by the shear grace of God that I was able to walk away from this accident with hardly anything but a scratch. Each moment I continue to be alive I am overwhelmed with gratitude for this precious gift we call life, and at the same time I have lost all fear of the possibility of death. This is a Model 9 #AutoPhoto made the in the 1940s. It was the first booth the #LA based company would mass produce and it put the company on the map. This one used to be at the @raykophotocenter in #sanfrancisco. It has a single arm for developing, so you have to wait for each photo to finish before taking a new one. It is also powered by an air compressor. So we had a big announcement that we were really excited to share with yall this week, but there are more important things going on.⁣ ⁣ As most of you know, a severe category 4 hurricane slammed almost directly into the Texas/Louisiana border late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning, leaving a path of destruction in its wake. The storm surge was thankfully nowhere near as bad as it was predicted to be, but the winds and rains certainly left their mark. More than half a million people are without power. Houses and businesses were destroyed and windows were blown out of buildings. There have been no confirmed casualties here in our state, but there have been 2 confirmed in Louisiana. Thousands are left without homes. ⁣ ⁣ Here at Third Coast Traveler, we ask that youd find it in your heart to help in whatever way you can.
