We are celebrating Native American Day from September 23 to 25 this year in California. Palomar Mountain was home for many tribes of the Payómkawichum (Luiseños) peoples of Southern California, which includes the tribes La Jolla, Pauma, Pala, Pechanga, Rincon, and Soboba. . These tribes lived here for many generations as evidenced by the deep rock mortars found throughout the park. Primarily used to pulverize acorns, these mortars were used to grind up many other kinds of nuts, berries, and fruit. Local tribes continue these traditions today in order to preserve their culture and teach newer generations about their heritage. . To this day, they practice cultural land management, oral history traditions, and boast an incredible collection of beautiful woven baskets from natural materials. - @palomarmountainsp on Instagram

Here’s two possibly new ones from a few weeks ago (they each had chalk on them, so there’s a good chance they had been climbed). The first is on the obstacle delusion boulder and could make a heartbreaking variation to that line. The second was a project on the split rock boulder (I did the project to the left of it too, but this one is a much better climb). Both are quite fun and probably in the v4/5 range. A long time ago, I heard that my friend Heidar Logi was taking some American photographer to this low key wave we had been surfing. I was honestly pretty pissed off and probably cursed both of them left and right 😂. Later when I met the photographer in question, I found @markomcinnis to be a genuinely good, humble human being. We laughed it all off and instantly became good friends and remain so to this day. He has always treated the people and waves of Iceland with the utmost respect and his photography is a constant inspiration to me. In the recent Holliday Farm Fires up in Oregon, Mark lost everything to the flames. Including his house, car, family heirlooms, cameras and his complete photo library. For someone who makes a living from freelance photography you can only imagine how devastating that is. Despite Marks protests, his friends have set up a fund to help him get back on his feet, and as a testament to Marks caracter, he has insisted on 10% of all donations above $30.000 mark to go to the Upper McKenzie and Volunteer firefighter Relief fund. On our way through the marginal ice zone we encountered a beautiful ice type: pancake ice. It emerges during an early stage of new ice formation from frazil ice, which consists of ice needles that stick together to grease ice. In this phase, swell is needed to let pancakes grow, as otherwise the ice would just form an even pattern and cover the ocean as so-called Nilas. But the swell makes the newly forming ice pieces colliding and theses collisions lead to more or less circular plates with usually padded edges. Ive always wanted to get @pineyjarkove out for an overnight backpack. Mission accomplished this weekend on a local lake that sits right around 12,500 ft. Rising sea levels threaten our community and coastal way of life at the same time. I have been working with our Planning staff, colleagues from around the state, and the Coastal Commission on a set of innovative strategies to address the threat. Our Board adopted a new Local Coastal Plan that includes a set of policies that recognize our coastal geology, take into account our voter-approved land-use policies, and prepare our county to deal with the impacts of sea-level rise. This approach promotes good use of science, creates flexibility in our response, and sets a time horizon of 20 years so we can reconfigure the policies based on the latest science. - @superleopold on Instagram

В 2012 году участниками клуба Восток на острове был установлен памятный крест шхуне Восток, но за 8 лет он порядком износился и вчера мы его восстановили, покрасили и установили новую памятную табличку. А еще нашли небольшой кусочек шхуны - кофель нагель - элемент крепления скользящего такелажа парусных судов. This is a fantastic ‘budget’ option if you are looking to spend under $200 CAD for a light weight tent. Coming in at just 4.3lbs, this is a great option. I loved it! The fly doesn’t touch the tent, is well ventilated, has one inside pocket + comes with high quality aluminum tent pegs. After a night on the beach, there was zero condensation on the tent itself! 💦 The vestibule is a nice size too. This letter was sent from the Culture Secretary to museums and galleries regarding the government position on contested histories. It can be found on the gov.uk website. There are several concerning things about this letter. Here are a few: • The barely veiled threat regarding funding if they don’t fall into line with the govt position. • Does the government get to decide what is ‘political’? Aren’t they just enforcing their own political ideologies here as opposed to really caring about the greater good or the cultural role these institutions play for the ENTIRE country? • The govt appears to be attempting to suppress discourse and debate around subjects they feel uncomfortable with. • The staff of many of these national collections have been looking after these collections and displays for years. In some cases, the work to diversify, tell the full stories of our shared histories and to fight against bias, whitewashing and harm has been taking place for some time already. The govt sticking their oar in here could set this work back. • In some cases statues and collections should not be displayed. In some cases they represent heinous things. Dialogue surrounding these issues should not be stamped on. There needs to be open discussion, learning and understanding. • Why does this government appear to be labelling anything that doesn’t align with their view as ‘political’ or ‘activist’? The question of equality, humanity and justice shouldn’t be about political sides or partisanship. It isn’t about ‘sides’ or ‘tribes’ or parties. We should all be uniting behind equality. • The need to notify the department in advance of any actions or public statements in relation to contested heritage or histories smacks of censorship? And in light of the position the government appears to be taking on all of this (which is to stamp out the debate) it is worrying. • The tone and content of this letter, alongside the guidance issued last week for teachers implementing statutory curriculum, which equated anti capitalism to an extreme political stance, are concerning. . Kungsleden DAG 9 (23 Aug) 26,5 km, ca 9 h Innan Jågge-Pårte-Kvikkjokk . Vaknade 0630. Regnade fortfarande väldigt mycket. Kom iväg runt 0800. Klev ca 5 steg och halkade på en sten, ramlade och slog vänster knä rakt in en sten. Ajjajaaajj vad ont det gjorde! 🥺 Fick stå där i några minuter och jämra mig. Lyckligtvis försvann smärtan snabbt och jag kunde gå vidare i regnet, som höll på i 4 h utan uppehåll. Besvärlig terräng. Inte kul. Mycket sten, gyttja och vattenpölar. Kom fram till Pårte-stugan vid lunchtid. Då slutade det regna. 🙏🏼 Gick in i en vedbod där jag torkade kläder och gjorde lunch. Härlig meditativ plats. Stillsamt. Bara jag där och en stugvärd som höll sig för sig själv. Vilade och åt vid sjön. Passade på att svalka fötterna i vattnet. Fortsatte vid 13-tiden mot Kvikkjokk. Regnet kom igen. Terrängen blev besvärligare. Smal skogsstig, upp och ned, mycket sten och våta rötter som man halkade runt på. När jag skulle gå över en bäck, halkade jag omkull igen och slår höger smalben rakt in i en sten- tvärsöver benet. Blev liggande i bäcken i 2-3 minuter, kom inte upp. Skrek rakt ut, gnydde och bannade flera gånger. Helvetes jävla FAAAN vad ont det gör! 😫 Trodde benet var av eftersom jag inte kunde känna det. Bara smärta. Gjorde så ont så jag började grina. Hur ska det gå hädanefter? Är vandringen slut nu? . När jag väl drog mig upp, stödde jag mig på en av stavarna. Kunde inte stå på högerben. Jag fick, bokstavligen- hoppa fram på vänsterbenet i drygt 2 km. Efter 1 km mötte jag 3 vandrare som undrade hur det var med mig. (Väldigt folktomt på den här leden i övrigt) Efter 2 km släppte smärtan något och jag kunde böja benet litegrann. Kom fram till Kvikkjokk vid 18-tiden. Mörbultad och trött. Til 2 personer trenger du: - 2,2 dl mel (erstatt gjerne noe med sammalt hvete eller fibra for en sunnere variant) - 1/5 pose tørrgjær (eller 1 ts bakepulver) - 1/3 ts salt - Spe med lunket vann eller melk (ca 1,5 dl) Fyll - hvit pizzasaus - spekeskinke - rødløk - sopp plukket i skogen (piggsopp, kantarell) - ost - ruccola Slik gjør du det: 1. Bland sammen de tørre ingrediensene. 2. Hell i vann og bruk hendene til å elte deigen. 3. Legg deigen i en boks dersom du ikke allerede har blandet det sammen i en. 4. Fordel litt ekstra mel over deigen som du bruker til å forme pizzabunnen på tur. 5. På tur steker du først sopp og rødløk i smør. Dryss litt salt over mot slutten. 6. Trykk i det ekstra melet i deigen og form den til pizzabunn! Trykk den gjerne ut i stekepanna etter at du har fordelt litt smør utover slik at bunnen ikke setter seg fast. 7. Stek bunnen på svak varme (bruk lokk dersom du har - mer effektivt) 8. Snu deigen og fordel fyll over. Igjen er det lurt å ha et lokk eller aluminiumsfolie slik at osten smelter raskere. 10. Hello! 🦋 🧚🏻♀️ 1. It’s been a minute ! These last few months I’ve been so caught up with college apps,if I’m being completely honest, I fell off food combining for a bit. 🧚🏻♀️ 2. I recently started getting back on track with my eating/exercise habits. This morning I woke up and made myself a HUGE fruit bowl and lemon water 🍋, and walked down to the bluffs by my house to start my day on a good note. ❤️ 3. Today marks the one year anniversary of the Woolsey Fire. One year ago today I lost my childhood home and the sense of community that I grew up feeling for the past 17 years of my life. Walking down to the beach this morning made me realize how grateful I am to see views like this on a daily basis. The past year hasn’t been the easiest transition, but it definitely has taught me a lot about myself and the world around me. ❤️ -The first picture was taken this morning🧚🏻♀️ - The second picture is a beautiful sunset at my old house, about two weeks before the Woolsey Fire hit ~ 🦋Just a little reminder that both are beautiful in their own way, and that sometimes to see the beauty in difference, we just have to unplug for a bit and look at the world around us 🦋 Hope everyone is having a great day!! Juan De Fuca. ~WALK IN THE PARK~ So last year I attempted to walk the Juan de Fuca, a mere 47km marine trail along Vancouver Islands west coast in December 2018. My plan didnt work out, I was chased off the trail by a massive wind storm and I was left defeated. Fast forward 1 year. @pig_in_butcher @go.wing.it and I attempt the same trail January 26th. We pushed hard the first day and had some enjoyment ploughing through many obstacles. After the torrential rain storms the week before, every step was calculated with knee deep mud at every corner. Our first night on trail saw us set up camp in the dark while it was pissing rain out. We cooked in our tents and quickly went to sleep. So proud 💛 • I’ve mentioned before that Diego is a nervous dog, and can therefore be reactive in situations that overwhelm him. • So I was a bit worried about visiting Lofoten with him and doing all the touristy things. Crowds of people and strange dogs are not his favourite. • But I am so so happy to say that this summer went super well 🎉 We went on popular hikes, we visited crowded towns and we stayed at camping sites with screaming kids and barking dogs. • Not only was Diego very well behaved when out and about, but he was also able to relax and chill outside of the van with so much going on around him 🙌 • I think that him being exhausted from going on new adventures every day was definitely part of it, but I have also finally found a training method that is really giving results! ⛰️ AL RESCATE DE LA CAMPANA Es una de las montañas más emblemáticas de la cordillera de la Costa, pero la experiencia de alcanzar su cumbre tiene un aspecto muy negativo: las rocas de la cima están todas rayadas. Sin embargo, un inédito proyecto de limpieza y restauración está en marcha para solucionarlo. Impulsado por la Fundación Andestrek @fundacionande con el apoyo de la Escuela de Ingeniería en Medio Ambiente de la Universidad de Valparaíso, Conaf y Sernatur, el proyecto Por una cumbre sin graffiti: Rescate en La Campana @limpiezalacampana busca remover los rayados de la cumbre que se han ido acumulando durante décadas. Tras aprobarse una experiencia piloto que se realizó en 2017, la iniciativa fue finalmente autorizada por Conaf el 21 de julio de este año, y ahora espera reunir el financiamiento necesario para comenzar, si todo avanza según lo planeado, a partir de marzo próximo. En un área de unos 4.500 metros cuadrados hay más de 300 rayados en las rocas. Algunos son antiguos —hay nombres tallados en las piedras con fecha 1884— y otros recientes, pintados con látex, óleo y hasta corrector líquido y esmalte de uñas. “Cuando yo subí por primera vez en los 70, ya estaba rayado, dice Marcos Liberona, fundador de la Fundación Andestrek y gestor de la campaña. Es muy decepcionante. Se ha rayado por casi nueve décadas, y hay tallados aún más antiguos, según las fechas escritas. Ocurre que a través de toda la ascensión vas observando un paisaje hermoso, lleno de bosques, pero cuando vas llegando a la cumbre y comienzas a ver los Andes al fondo, aparecen esta piedras con nombres que parecen lápidas de cementerio. He visto a turistas extranjeros que quedan sumamente impactados. La alteración visual es como una bofetada”. It began with a few well placed grains of sand. The place had good bones. An offshore breeze hinted at the changing season and sculpted a natural form Frank Lloyd Wright would have approved of. That morning, while making coffee at my campsite, I watched a bobcat cruise by on its morning commute. 5 minutes later it returned, carrying its breakfast (a field mouse) in its mouth. I surfed alone. At chest high, the wave peeled off quickly before detonating on the inside bar. I wondered what a larger swell would look like when it hit. I rinsed off in the freshwater creek that fed the sandbar before heading back to camp.
