COVID-19 - TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF MELBOURNE STORES Following this morning’s news that Australian hospitals are already overloaded due to the COVID-19 crisis, we have made the decision to temporarily suspend trade at all Melbourne stores at close of business today Wednesday 18 March 2020. We apologise for the short notice, but this is a public health crisis and things are moving extremely quickly. The health and safety of our staff, along with that of our community is our main concern. For the time being, our kiosk in Sydney’s QVB will remain open. Has anyone else been watching @hollywoodnetflix? I was binging it last weekend when I heard a reference to the decorator Billy Haines. I did a quick Google and stumbled onto an absolute ICON. It’s the Hollywood story we all actually need right now. William “Billy” Haines was Hollywood’s leading man (and openly gay) in the 1920s and early 30s until actors were forced to abide by “moral guidelines,” which included not being homosexual. Rather than move out of the house he shared with his partner, Jimmie Shields, Haines quit acting and became a decorator instead. He completely defined the Hollywood aesthetic from the 1930s through the 70s—Joan Crawford, George Cukor, Betsy Bloomingdale, and the Reagans were all clients. He collaborated with modern architects like A. Quincy Jones (first image and yes, that’s a Matisse, making this the ultimate trifecta of good taste), and consulted on film sets—the artwork in Tara for “Gone with the Wind” is from Haines’s own collection. Highly impressed with their attention to details, abstract paintings, wall art, doodle art and the whole interior setup. It feels like the restaurant is divided into sections and each section is designed differently. The overhead golden lighting gives the place a warm hue. Personally, I prefer this kind of moody environment for a romantic setup and candle light dinners.They also have a bar seating on the same floor. This high-end restaurant is set up on 2 floors and has a lot of room for big events and parties. The second floor is resembles more to a cafe. История про “выход из карантина” или “много хорошего и сразу-тоже стресс”. ⠀ Как я уже писала, у меня был совершенно волшебный день рождения. Вроде как ничего особенного, но все то, по чему скучала. Поездка на пляж вместе с Джакомо (поезд+машина), встреча с его семьей, пикник с просекко и ягодами, суши на ужин дома. Подарки, поздравления со всего мира, классная погода - и что я получила? Магию и счастье, да. Но только на следующий день, когда я свалилась без сил, поработав всего три часа, я поняла, что это было СЛИШКОМ МНОГО ВСЕГО одновременно. Хотя это были сплошь позитивные эмоции. ⠀ НО! Я отвыкла от всего этого за 2 месяца дома и, похоже, мой организм воспринял это как слишком сильный стимул, и ответил стрессовым откликом, последствия которого - сильная усталость. ⠀ К чему я это все? Мы все очень индивидуальны, в том числе в наших реакциях на стрессоры (внешние и внутренние), среди которых изменения и любые впечатления, даже позитивные. Поэтому не стоит обесценивать чужие реакции и переживания (и свои тоже). У нас очень разные нервные системы и эмоциональную нагрузку мы тоже переносим по-разному. ⠀ Для меня “монотонность” карантина, когда каждый день одно и то же, стала в какой-то момент в поддерживающей. Я из тех, кто была рада “замедлиться” (хотя это тоже было непросто), поэтому “выход” со всеми его красотами и волшебством для меня стал ощутимым стрессом. ⠀ Будьте к себе бережны, пожалуйста. С “выходом из карантина” стресс не заканчивается, даже если нам кажется, что все как обычно. Мы только вроде смирились с тем, что было, а сейчас опять все по-другому. ⠀ 🌿Отдыхайте больше, не перегружайте себя впечатлениями даже если очень хочется. 🌿Бывайте в тишине, если есть такая возможность. ⠀ 🌿Дышите, двигайтесь, соединяйтесь с телесными ощущениями. ⠀ 🌿Давайте взгляду отдыхать на приятном, принимая ощущения (это регулирует нервную систему). ⠀ Мягкого вам выхода из карантина, где бы вы ни были. ⠀ ... 📷Ralph Crane&Slim Aarons via @italysegreta - @asyasoskova_coach on Instagram

🇬🇧 What to do when in Positano? Make sure to visit at least one of the beautiful beaches, such as Fornillo or Arienzo, try the famous dessert delizie al limone (lemon glazed cake - delicious!) And... rent one of the historic Fiat 500 and go back in time! A trip in such an unique car through winding streets of Positano is something well not forget for a long time. Behind the Frame: I’ve talked quite a bit about pre-visualization and the importance of planning out your frames in this series, but you have to leave room for inspiration to strike during a shoot. The decisive moment may not be the one you thought it was going to be. Much like my portrait of a couple in Venice with pigeons swirling around them, I planned this image for months, knowing exactly what I wanted in my head: a photo of a couple sitting on the back of a vintage car on an idyllic street in Cuba with their backs to me as they kissed. I pre-scouted the streets I wanted to use in old town Havana the morning before and knew I wanted to rent a red car to match the hat, which would be our last shot of the day. The hat looked amazing, but we kept having trouble with their hat brims bumping each other. Every time they kissed- or just got close- the hats got in the way. We were trying to find a creative work around and by the end of the shoot we were all a little hot, sweaty and frustrated. I knew I couldn’t get them kissing without their hats looking silly so I told them to just look forward (swipe). The photo was okay, but it had no spark. No punctum. I suggested we lose the hat, but we were now in serious hat-hair territory and the red hat so perfectly matched the car and vintage Havana vibe so it didn’t feel right to cut it. I suggested he try taking off her hat, holding it in his hand as he kissed her. Suddenly, a story unfurled in front of my eyes. It became a stolen moment- a secret kiss hidden behind the hat. You can’t see a kiss, but the implication of one is obvious. Their bodies form a perfect triangle extending down to the lines of the trunk and his elbow makes an inverse triangle that draws our eyes into the kiss. The hidden kiss creates mystery and adds a narrative. What happened just before and after? Who are they? Why are they hiding their kiss? Creating this narrative keeps us more engaged in the frame and works alongside the composition to hold our focus. My last morning in Beirut, I’d awoken to the sort of bustle familiar only to cities buckling under the heat of a late summer. Breakfast was a bowl of fatteh — chickpeas and toasted flatbreads doused with yogurt, cumin, and olive oil so good it sung — and Lebanese coffee, a richly dark and cathartic bath of energy. I remember this moment, of sitting in the speckled sun, of being so utterly unconcerned about making good time for my flight, because of the way it cascaded so effortlessly into the rhythm of the day. Which brings me to my driver, Noaman. Where it became clear that he spoke no English and I spoke no Arabic, this was fine, amounting to an awkward ride at most. But traffic was heavily rerouted that day, and Noaman became increasingly frustrated. He used what English he knew to explain what the road conditions were, but it ultimately didn’t convey much. ‘Parlez-vous Français?’ I offered. He shook his head, and that was that — until it wasn’t. Until some time later, Noaman said with a conciliatory glimmer, “Habla Español?” “Sí,” I said. And honest to goodness, it’s the time lapses of flowers blooming, the way Noaman lit up with a smile. I say this for myself, too — to bear witness to the a-ha moments, ridiculously wholesome as they are. When the joy of common ground is happenstance — Spanish being neither of our native tongues, after all — and both members catching onto the casual serendipity of it. Noaman says he needs to take an alternate route, but the conversation shifts soon enough. I learn that he lived in Madrid for eight years. We talk about paella, knowing full well of hunger and longing, of how deeply intertwined they are in universality. And while tapped into that universality, parting ways suddenly means a lot. It’s been a long time since, but I continue to hold this memory close — because in a way I think it isn’t so special. It’s a way to move through life, of having the fortitude and luck to discover a lingua franca. It’s seeking and embodying the adhesive that binds us. And, maybe now more than ever, we need it.
