There is a big debate around double leg vs single leg training in the Rehab / S&C worlds. In my opinion, both are useful. But they are only useful if they are actually different to each other & if you actually do them differently. Most people think they are training a single leg in a variation like a Split Squat. In reality, for the vast majority of people, exercises like split squats are loading them in more or less the exact same way as a regular back squat would. Both sides of the pelvis are facing forward. Both knees are out. The chest is forward. Both legs are working hard and the centre of mass is falling between both legs rather that more of the load being over the “working leg”. This is fine if we want to lift more weight. But if we want to use our “single leg” training to actually help us move better outside of the gym, then imo we should be loading the muscles that will actually be working hard when we are on a single leg in when we walk/run. You WILL need to lift less weight when you get it right, but I can promise you that you won’t have felt certain muscles ever working that hard before. Namely, hamstrings, adductors and glutes. Just ask my client Sev when was the last time he felt his hamstring cramp from a split squat? So, it’s not that we are trying to be “functional” for the sake of it. It’s that, with a little bit of cueing you actually get a lot stronger in the positions that your body struggles to access and load muscles that rarely get loaded. And honestly, I think that too much split squatting like the guy on the right can (in some cases) actually make you worse at organising your body like @sanchooo10 on the left. Position matters. Details matter. Are you just trying to lift more weight? Or are you try to lift weight so that you can feel, move & perform better? Neither is right or wrong. But it’s a question worth asking yourself. - @davidgreyrehab on Instagram

In truth, it is the honour of being a Mum that is truly (M)agical and gives us the strength to do more and be better - for them. The power and strength of the love and pride you feel as a Mother is (M)agical. Isla pretends to be too grown up for Magic, but in truth needs a (M)agical Mum more than ever and my life goal is to always be the best Mum I can possibly be for both of them. For the first time in my life i actually had the goal of losing muscle so i could try to win the ninja warrior TV show. I spent 4 weeks changing my training to a more endurance & cardio based program. but A few months before the ninja warrior show i was invited to work in Canada & Barbados running group fitness sessions and a large 150+ people 1 day event in Toronto. As much as i wanted to be on the Ninja warrior TV series. My real love is travel and coaching. So i took the opportunity aboard. It was the best decision ever! i loved my time in BC & Ontario :) Canada is one of the best countries in the world with the most friendly people. p.s the government system is also much better than AUS & USA. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But let’s s not digress! While touring Canada & running the event in Barbados i spent the whole time training in group fitness HIIT style sessions. HIIT stands for (high intensity interval training). These were some of the hardest cardiovascular and muscle endurance workouts of my life and overtime my body adapted to these conditions. It’s interesting actually. I didn’t have a lot of body fat to lose so i just lost muscle and it makes total sense. why? Because i wasn’t lifting weights that demanding me to be strong. i was doing lots of crazy circuits and as much as i met the most amazing people and had the most amazing time.
