Today @juicebumps_sf debut album ‘Hello Pinky!’ is out. More than 10 years in the making (I wrote ‘Fraidy Cat’ when I was 20), it combines the efforts of many strange and talented friends + artists. It feels strange promoting music with so many other more important things happening in the world, and I hope this album can help fuel positive change in our country in some respect. To support the fight for racial and gender equality, today on July 3rd all album sales will be donated to Black Trans Femme Arts Collective (bandcamp is waiving their fees today too). We have tapes and vinyl being distributed around the globe with the help of our DIY label friends in SF, Paris, Leipzig and Melbourne. It blows my mind that a community spread across the world can be so supportive and embrace a bunch of weirdos. Thank you to everyone for listening and supporting the juice! The Newport Jazz Festival was in full, glorious stride during the 1960s, featuring top-shelf talent not only from jazz but also the realms of soul, rock and more. That’s the backdrop for Episode 2 of our three-part Newport special, The Stars Shine. We’ll hear festive sounds from both Ray Charles and saxophonist Cannonball Adderley in 1960; peerless jazz singer Sarah Vaughan in ‘64; the incomparable Duke Ellington Orchestra in ‘68; and Pops himself, Louis Armstrong, during a special birthday tribute in 1970. For all of us at Jazz Night in America, the Newport Jazz Festival is both hallowed ground and a cherished hang. Our host, Christian McBride, is the festival’s artistic director. (Call that a disclosure, if you like; we think of it as a heavy asset.) So this summer, in the absence of a physical gathering, we’ve set out to lovingly recreate the festival experience, Jazz Night-style. (Link in bio) About the artwork: Each year since the early 1990s, artist Nan Parati has drawn thousands of distinctive handwritten signs for the Newport Jazz Festival, Folk Festival, and New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. RIP Hiram 🖤 Today is 12 years since Hiram Bullock transitioned... ✨🎸✨ I started working with Hiram when I was 20. (this pic is backstage at one of my first gigs with him) It was my first time playing & recording with a major artist... my first time touring internationally... and I got my first endorsements... I thought 20 was old at the time... but in hindsight, it’s SO young... and despite being musically skilled, I was green AF... and Hiram had a profound influence on me...as a musician and as a person. Hola chicos cómo están 😃 Hoy es lunes y como siempre dejamos aquí 👇 un disco para que lo disfrutes.. La Ley es el tercer álbum que grabó el grupo chileno del mismo nombre con la compañía Polygram Fue lanzado el 6 de febrero del año 1993 Durante la promoción de este disco la banda tuvo su primer contacto con México🇲🇽, en el marco del intercambio cultural tras el arribo de la democracia al país andino. El primer sencillo fue la canción Auto Ruta, censurada en varios canales de vídeos por su fuerte contenido explícito🤔( en su momento) El disco causó además expectativas a nivel de prensa. Las locaciones, se dieron en las afueras de Miami Beach, Florida, EE.UU..🇺🇸 donde los integrantes de la banda actuaron🎭 como protagonistas en el vídeo. La canción Tejedores de Ilusión, cuya letra , se inspiró al cambiar de canal y topar con el canal cristiano, en donde la banda criticaba los valores que promovía aquel canal de TV. El video de la canción, fue grabado en Valle Nevado (Chile) en lo alto de una montaña. La canción tiene una carga nostálgica y melancólica muy grande, y eso se demuestra cuando, se le utiliza durante los homenajes que se le rinden a Andres Bobe 🎸después de su trágico fallecimiento. Este disco fue sin duda en el que la banda experimentó en su mejor época, además los vídeos de los sencillos evolucionaron la forma realizar los videoclips de rock en español.
