Itβs the 28th installment of Rounderβs #50for50 in celebration of our 50th anniversary, where we will dive into 50 classic Rounder titles. #28 Bluegrass Album Band - The Bluegrass Album The Bluegrass Album Band began as a project initiated by guitarist Tony Rice. At the time, Tony was breaking musical barriers with his own jazz-inflected albums, an as a member of the David Grisman Quintet. Now, he created the perfect vehicle to explore his traditional bluegrass roots by bringing together many of the best young musicians in the genre, including J.D. Crowe, Doyle Lawson, Bobby Hicks, and Todd Phillips. βWe were excited about having Tony record a straight-ahead bluegrass album, and he was excited to assemble just the right band to record it,β said Ken Irwin. βPretty quickly, it was apparent that this group had coalesced in the studio to the point of having become a band in its own right. The Bluegrass Album Band, as they came to be known, was much more than just an early all-star band.Β Β They introduced the classic bluegrass canon to a new generation, played by the hottest and most groundbreaking players and singers in the field.Β Β As a band and as individuals, they set very high standards for recorded bluegrass then and now.β Swipe up on our story to ready more! - @rounderrecords on Instagram

With so much history being paved over, itβs nice to have something to remember Music Row by via Hidden History of Music Row,β by Brian Allison, Elizabeth Elkins, and Vanessa Olivarez. Elkins and Olivarez are Granville Automatic, whose new album, Tiny Televisions β released to coincide with the bookβs release β was inspired by the stories in the book. Historian, museum consultant, and writer Allison grew up listening to stories of country music; his father, Joe, was a producer, songwriter, and radio personality (Joe and Audrey Allison wrote Jim Reevesβ 1960 hit βHeβll Have to Goβ). π Learn more about this book! Todayβs #bastardjazzathome album designed to ease you into your week is Leon Wareβs βMusical Massageβ as selected by @rosario_music from @thegoodsinyou. He saysβ Aptly titled, the arrangements, production and and musicianship are perfection. It needs a mention that this was written after he wrote Marvin Gayeβs iconic album βI Want Youβ. Ware had intended that record for himself, but after Berry Gordy heard it he had to give it to Marvin to record. Leon Ware has to be one of the most underrated artists in soul music. Enjoy!β - hit the link in our bio to listen on @spotify - @bastardjazz on Instagram
