It’s been a busy bank holiday weekend for the volunteer crew at Port Isaac RNLI with three shouts. The first was at 16:15 on Friday 28th August to reports of individuals in difficulty near rocks at Port Gaverne. Port Isaac inshore Lifeboat (ILB) was quickly on scene and established that the individuals were safe and well with the call to the coastguard being made with good intent. At 14:06 on Sunday 30th August the ILB Pride of Port Isaac (Goeth Porthusek) were called to launch to Tintagel to reports of eight persons cut off by the tide. Boscastle Coastguard and CG rescue 924 were also in attendance. Whilst travelling to the scene Falmouth Coast Guard reported to the lifeboat that all the casualties had managed to wade back to shore, were safe and well and we could stand down and return to Station. The crew were barely back at the station when the pagers again went off at 14:55 with Falmouth Coastguard requesting that our volunteer crew proceed to Trebarwith Strand to reports of two surfers in trouble. Port Isaac ILB arrived on scene and were redirected to a couple on the beach. They confirmed that they were the subject of the emergency but were now safe and well and didn’t need any help. Port Isaac lifeboat return to Station. If you are concerned about anyone in or around the water please dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Well as the dust has settled and sore heads are gone, we are going to recap a super trip to @dingledistillery! Many speed bumps along the way (not including the ones on the road from Tralee to Dingle) over 50 members embarked on our first over night trip. With plans on the first night to have a tasting in @dickmackspub scraped (well be back, dont worry @finnmacdonnell) we left our members to explore the town of Dingle. Many enjoying the sights of Slea Head or getting out to see Fungi and of course crossing paths in the many of the bars & restaurants of Dingle! @geaneysbar @johnbennysdingle and many other establishments proving very popular. We also had some members have tours late Friday evening with @beardydave81. Saturday was the main event, with most members going for a behind the scenes tour of this great artisan distillery, while sipping on a @dinglegin and tonic, it was onto the warehouse for the whiskey tasting. Provided with some @porterhousebrewco beers while waiting for the tasting with the new master distiller @grahamcoull. Graham took us through some really interesting expressions from the new make pot still and malt, to the 6 weeks aged malt and the px pot still. This really was an exclusive tasting with many different favourites from members. Truely outstanding story with many different whiskeys on the way 👏👏 Graham didnt stop there, he then became master chef serving up a bbq to all of our members with Dave mixing some cocktails too.🍔🌭🍹🍸 To Graham, Dave and all the team thank you for looking after us so well from start to finish. I think we can all agree someone is looking down very proudly on how the brand is being represented at the moment and the direction it is going. Really well done guys! To our members, thank you for making the long trek to Dingle and really embracing the town and enjoying all aspects. Hopefully we get back down very soon. And to the town itself it real is everything you want it to be friendly, authentic and great craic! Despues de unos días caóticos de fiestas de San Juan... la calma regresó a nuestro paraiso...seguramente por poco tiempo...y aunque entiendo que como pueblo bello, encantador y muy turístico es necesario ver vida de nuevo... me cuesta aceptar la actitud con la que viene la gente aquí despues del confinamiento. Las mascarillas brillan por su ausencia, no se respetan las distancias, la gente se encuentra por la calle y se empieza a besar como si nada hubiese pasado, por no hablar de lo que cuesta que la gente se limpie las manos con gel cuando entra a un comercio y tenga un poco de respeto versus a la persona que le atiende, o se ponga su mascarilla si va al servicio cuando está en un Restaurante... Me pregunto porque esas mismas personas que en su ciudad o residència habitual respeta las normas y cuando sale de ella no... que pasa? ... piensan acaso..., que en los pueblos no existe el covid?... que somos acaso immunes?... que el virus aquí esta de vacaciones?... no se! No entiendo nada!...parece que traspasada la frontera de la región donde uno vive... ahí se acabó todo!...nadie se acuerda ya de las personas que nos han dejado, que sufren, que han sufrido y las que estan pendientes de nuestro bienestar, de esas largas horas de espera y de angustia, de los aplausos... viendo toda esta sarta de estupideces humanas.. aún no siendo sanitaria, me genera mucha frustación ver como la gente olvida tan deprisa y no es consciente que todos debemos saber que este verano tiene que ser distinto en todos los aspectos y que el hecho de que tengamos otra vez libertad no significa que no debamos ser cautos y extremar precauciones... porque como dice el buen refran: “más vale prevenir que curar”...ahí queda eso!... We visit Port Isaac daily on our trips, did you know it’s actually called Porthysek in Cornish. The meaning of the Cornish name is corn port, indicating a trade in corn from the arable inland district. The origins of Port Isaac are likely Celtic and the development of the town can be roughly dvided into three phases. Through the middle ages and up to the coming of the railways Port Isaac was a thriving port serving the area inland. During the Tudor period the harbour was dredged, a good illustration of its importance. Once goods from locations further inland were better served by the North Cornwall Railway, the economy of the port relied on pilchard fishing, an activity that had likely been happening for centuries. However the pilchard shoals began to decline, and following World War 1 tourism became the mainstay of the economy. Good morning Eilean Shona. It’s five years since we began the restoration of the Old School House. A stunning example of the Victorian Alexander Ross’s architecture. As you can imagine building work in this wilderness location is a logistical challenge to say the least, no electricity, 50 miles from the nearest shop, everything delivered by boat, including the guys working there who crossed the water every day. Back on board! After two months of being away from the water, it felt so good to paddle Lake O with my hubby on this summer-like day. But so much thought and planning went into my first spring excursion; I made sure to adhere to current regulations, picked a day and a spot I knew would be relatively quiet, and made sure the conditions were super safe (flat, no winds, close to shore, an area I knew well). I’M BACK! 🤗💕⠀ ⠀ after a full few weeks and lots of milestones happening for our family it was time for a breather with my little ones.. and a digital detox. ⠀ ⠀ I unplugged from the digital world.. popped my phone away during the daytime and had some quality family time, more sleep, being present ⠀ ⠀ and it’s been a good one! ⠀ ⠀ We did a gluten trial with both boys which was really promising. They both ate regular toast and didn’t have sore tummies! The OG. This guy doesn’t quit. We drive up this sketch gravel road to Cape Farewell just as the sun is setting, only to find out the walk to the viewpoint is on an angle difficult to walk for my dad, and the gate to the entrance is closed. The place looks deserted. No one to be seen. He decides fuck it, we’re going anyway, and drives up the hill (where you’re definitely not suppose to go with a vehicle) to park as close to the entrance as possible. I manage to open the gate, he grabs his cane, and we proceed to climb up this steep cliff, with sheep surrounding us. Took time, but he made it. 78 is just a number. P.S. We’re all very pleased to announce the total findings from the beach clean. 113.7kg of rubbish was found by around 80 volunteers this morning on castle beach and going round near pendennis point too! It’s been a really amazing effort and we’ve all enjoyed it, we hope you all had a fab day too! Also a big thank you to whoever helped to clear the sand and seaweed from outside the cafe and along the walkway, it wasn’t at all necessary and everyone’s generosity really helped us and saved us weeks worth of time! Special thank you to who organised the event @onebagbeachclean it was amazing to see everyone down helping out their community to benefit the environment! Portloe. This is a hidden gem on the Roseland peninsula. There is a small car park at the top of the hill and you can wonder down to the the small fishing village below. 💚 Salcombe South Sands 💚 The sea around Salcombe was ideal for SUP today. We parked next to @TheWinkingPrawn at North Sands and paddled around to South Sands. This tends to be the quieter of the two beaches because there’s only a small private car park opposite the hotel. However you can walk from North Sands or visit it by the South Sands ferry that runs between here and Salcombe town every half an hour between 10am and 6pm. This costs £4.50 for adults and £3.50 for children each way. It looks like a fun ride as you board the ferry from a sea tractor that transports passengers into the water. We must go back and try it! The ferry and tractor runs until the end of October. It’s currently taking up to 12 people at a time. Masks are essential. Also right on the beach is @SouthSandsHotel_ - a small boutique hotel that’s also super family-friendly. We pulled our boards up on the beach grabbed a coffee and piece of salted caramel brownie (yum) from @BosBeachCafe. You can’t miss it - it’s an old life boat station that looks a little like a chapel.
