75-75-79 🤩Probably, a more typical @veuveclicquot post that you expect from me, right? :) It’s been some time since we had the tasting but, hey, the impressions about champagne, just like champagne itself, only get better with aging. ⠀ ⠀ The particularity of this trio 1975-1976-1979 was that all three bottles were in a perfect shape and a cork actually popped out of 1979 bottle. Hence, comparing the aging, not the wine faults. You may even notice some bubbles in the glass on the right next to the 1979. Yet, we’re talking about GabrielGlass where even much younger champagnes loose their bubbles quite rapidly. ⠀ ⠀ So, 1975-1976-1979 - three stellar vintages appreciated by the champagne lovers. My opinion about the particular features of their evolution:⠀ ⠀ 1975 - “oxygen”. From my experience the wines of that year evolve more to the oxydative side. In that case hints of Tawny port were there. Again, that doesn’t mean that there was only Tawny and nothing else, it was a nicely aged bottle.⠀ ⠀ 1976 - for me it’s almost a “textbook acidity” comparing to 1979. I’ve seen a recent post of Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon where they tasted Cristal 1976. Of course, a simple vintage of Veuve Clicquot is not anywhere close to it. But every time I have a bottle of 1976, besides the elegance and overall ripeness, the marker is acidity. ⠀ ⠀ 1979 - “it’s all good”. Classic vintage: ripeness, acidity, elegance, toasty/coffee-toffee/nutty notes. You get a bottle of 1979 and, unless the bottle itself is messed up, it’s a pleasure - 100% guaranteed.⠀ ⠀ P.S. Funny thing: when I sent my email to LVMH Moscow saying I was preparing a vertical of Veuve Clicquot Carte Or in Russia, I got a reply that I must have confused their champagne with Drappier Carte dOr 😂 A photo resolved the confusion. In the end, unfortunately, the collaboration with LVMH didn’t really work out. ⠀ ⠀ P.P.S. I remember another experience we had in Sweden last year with my brother in champagne @champagneweathers on 70s vintages. so gutted to have to leave NZ over a month earlier than originally planned. I had intended to stay a few weeks and work on the 2020 harvest, but NZ has now gone into an extremely strict 4 week total lock down and so I’ve managed to get the last flight back to London to self quarantine and wait for Bermuda to reopen its airport. I have to say I totally commend both countries in their efforts to help control ***the C world*** and I don’t want to talk about that here. But here are a few thoughts on NZ... Hands down this country is outstanding. I have no words to describe just how physically beautiful it is. My photos do it no justice whatsoever. But what really blew me away was how wonderful New Zelanders are. I have never before met a country filled with such authentically kind and lovely people. I had the pleasure of meeting a few Kiwis in London in the wine trade (and if you’re reading this, you know who you are!) and I presumed it was just a coincidence that you were all chilled, with a great sense of humour, a penchant for a party and an authentic interest in others. But it turns out everyone in NZ is like that! I am truly overwhelmed with how utterly cool you all are, and I am completely obsessed with you all. Australasia is the only place on earth that knows how to do breakfast. The rest of the world should just give up. I include coffee in this. The wine. Wow. I had planned to tour the entire country after the harvest had wrapped up, but my brief stint in Central Otago and Martinborough (the two Pinot Noir hotspots) have cemented my love for what the New World can do, and if you are stuck at home and ordering wine for delivery I implore you to check out some NZ examples. They’re unbelievably underrated and provide great value. It would be supporting some excellent humans too. NZ is unbelievably clean, self-sufficient, environmentally conscious and forward thinking in its attitudes to climate change, pollution and reducing our carbon footprint. Figured this would be a good time to share my debt free journey... ⠀ I had $5000ish worth of debt as a combo of debt in collections and money I owed a friend. I thought it was trivial so I didn’t share my journey. But I allowed that $5000 to define my relationship with money and myself. That number was a reminder of all the mistakes I made, of all the times I gave up on myself because life got hard. At some point that 5k was more than I made in 6 months. Im not exaggerating. Not too long ago I had checked out of life, I wasn’t there for me. I was broke and broken. ⠀ My wake up call wasn’t just hitting a financial rock bottom, it was when I realized my motivation for getting my ish together was to simply not end up like the dude I was dating. WILD. But when you’re broke and broken... guess what you attract 👀. So I got it together, finally finished college after 7 years, ended things with dude, got a shitty job to start paying off the debt and most importantly I went to therapy. ⠀ The first half of this year I wasn’t earning a livable wage and was proud of myself for clocking in everyday. I proved to myself that I could be there for me and do it consistently... finally. And now by the grace of God, someone saw fit that I take all my knowledge and experience, the good and the bad and teach. Some may complain about a teacher salary but this check hits different knowing where I came from. ⠀ So when you hear me talk about getting shame out of your finances, it’s because I lived it. When I say don’t let the debt consume you, it’s because I let just $5000 cripple me. There’s more to life. You don’t need to be intense about your journey... you just need to be intentional. ⠀ I’m here to normalize FREEDOM. Not just debt freedom, but freedom from shame and guilt, from fear, from anything that’s holding you back. I’m not sure if freedom is a destination...it seems like when I get free from one thing, something else comes up. But I’m committed to the process.
