And I must say, the beauty of this pier is really overwhelming! . . A visit to the Sellin pier is an experience even if you are not there yet! The Wilhelmstraße boulevard, lined by pretty pension villas of the spa architecture, rises gently up to the 30-metre-high steep bank of the Baltic Sea. From here you will get a stunning view over the beautiful beach and the stunning beach house architecture. . From 1880 the baltic spa cultur developed along the whole Rügen and Sellin and began the development to a sophisticated seaside resort. As in other seaside resorts at the Baltic Sea the splendid bathing architecture developed also in Sellin. How many times have you climbed the 199 Steps? For a long time the steps were an important part of the burial of Whitby folk, but now they are simply a pathway to a breathtaking view. 🤍 The white cliffs of Dover are often on peoples to do list when they visit Kent, or when they visit England. For those visiting from our European neighbours, it is often the first thing they will see coming across the channel. 🤍 ~ I can see why its on the list of things to do. It is really very beautiful. There are a number of coastal walks that give stunning views out to sea and across the famous white cliffs. We are @nationaltrust members and so planned to park for free in their white cliffs of Dover car park near Dover Castle. We visited last weekend, which happened to be the anniversary of the Battle of Britain, so it was quite busy and the national trust car parks were full. Hi, a bit of info about this page. I started up this page exactly three years ago as I could not find any local pages on social media with the news and info I was looking for. I had been in the area for a few years and was also keen to share with others the beautiful community in which we live. And I’ve always wanted to be a journalist! This page is completely volunteer run by me and me alone. Hubby and I own a couple of businesses which have never been advertised on this page and never will be. That was not my intention for this page, not that there’s anything wrong with that! We are also dedicated local volunteers who have given up a lot of our time in helping the local community. Sandy Bay in Devon. This place was a huge surprise to us, we initially visited durdle door but after spending the morning there and the beach getting way to busy for our liking we decided to check out Sandy Bay Beach. After walking through the Holiday Park for about 20 minutes you come to this beautiful secluded bay. This beach was actually the Blue Flag Winner 2019. When I lived in Leeds I admit I turned my nose up at Cleethorpes. But when I went there a couple of weeks ago it reminded me a lot of where I grew up in Southport. Its a typical English seaside town, with a pier, fish and chips and a little train that runs along the seafront. There are stalls selling candyfloss, doughnuts and ice cream, and 2p slot machines where I could make my £1 pocket money last for hours. And of course there is the beach! Cleethorpes has miles of sandy beaches, and although the tide was out when I visited there were still plenty of people enjoying the view. English seaside resorts became popular in Victorian times when people would come here for fresh sea air and to escape the smog and smoke of the industrialised cities. It must have seemed like heaven to go from factories to the sea air! It has been a tense week. Sometimes I get discouraged about the current times. I was fortunate enough to get away for a week a while back. Away from people and media. I didnt know how much I needed it until I came home. This road might have been my favorite road of the trip. The Lost Coast Road. The coast of northern California where they didnt want to put the Pacific Coast Hwy 1 due to terrain. It was remote and beautiful. The sign out of Ferndale said it wasnt recommended for motorhomes or trailers. Sounded like my kind of road! The road was patchy, no shoulders, sometimes no lines or guardrails, winding through switchbacks up and down. Photo one is probably the straightest strip of the road with switchbacks to get down there. Photo two is coming over a rise to where the ocean view opens up to greet you. No one around so stopping in the middle of the road to take a photo, smell the air and enjoy the magnificence of the views was safe. Meandered through crossroad towns like Capetown and Petrolia. The road from Honeydew to Shelter Cove was certainly a challenge with a few orange cones to mark where the side of the road had fallen away to the ravine below or gravel road where they hadnt bothered to repave after a slide. Speed limit 35 was too fast in many places. Thoughts of turning around crossed my mind. But I kept going. Having driven it was a challenge and the beauty along the coast was my reward.
