I was at Costco today, and on my way out I turned around a saw a crowd of people behind me, all trying to leave with their cart as full as mine. We were all wearing masks and looked like a faceless army of souless consumers. I was doing pretty freaking great until today. All the mask wearing is dissolving peoples humnaity into a sea of fabric. Dont like it. So i went back to my hiding place and revisited a shoot I did last year with Ashley. I hope that I can be more than a masked consumer again soon. VINTAGE DIOR. I don’t think there is not one look from this 1989 collection created by Gian Franco Ferré that I would not want to own/wear. But I think that holds true for pretty much all of Dior, especially the older collections. Dress modelled by Gurmit Kaur, who I only discovered recently thanks to @documenting_fashion and have since researched her, read a few interviews I could find and searched the archives to find a handful of old photos. I’m surprised I did not know of her and she was one of the super models from the 90s walking for Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Dior to name a few alongside the famous model names from the 90s we all know so well...swipe to see some photos. 60’s daydream 🌻 New work featuring the lovely @asharaa__ Makeup by @silenceoftheglam Hair by @masmakeupartistry Styling by @bighairbigcity 🌻 When I started my journey in photography I did so many shoots like this one. I gathered small teams and we came up with simple themes and ideas and then just explored and saw where the day took us. As I got older- I found myself always trying to outdo or top what I had done in the past - usually making things bigger and more complicated - and because I was so busy with client work- this usually meant doing only 1 or 2 shoots for myself a year. So I spent more time planning, creating shot lists, making mood boards and investing $ in props and ideas to make sure the results were amazing. I will always love that process but with all of the planning, $ and extra people involved comes an added level of stress. I realized during lockdown that I missed the days of shooting tests with less pressure- just going out and having fun and not worrying about getting published or hitting a minimum number of looks. So I decided while I have a little more time on my hands (as work is just starting to pick up) I am going to go back to the beginning and do more simple tests like this one. It was so fun to just go to the park near my studio and play. Of course I am also planning bigger crazier things as well because that is just me but it’s refreshing to break it up every now and then and I really love the results.
