PROJECT / This project is currently in the rezoning process under The City of Vancouver’s Moderate Income Rental House Pilot Program (MIRHPP). The architecture provides 153 purpose-built rental units organized in a series of stacked volumes that sit atop a pedestal comprised of townhouse units and commercial space. Thirty-five percent of the residential units will be two- and three-bedroom layouts, and twenty percent of the total unit count will be reserved for moderate income households. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The shifted volumetric massing is a specific response to the neighborhood context – breaking down the massing while also minimizing shadows on adjacent sites. In April 2020, Kane Constructions was awarded the Construction Management contract to deliver the recommissioning project for the St Vincent’s on the Park project. The Victorian Government invested $30M re-commissioning the former Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute to create the new hospital which has increased the facilities requirements by adding 84 new In Patient Unit (IPU) and high dependency beds over eight floors that will be used to free up capacity at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Fitzroy for any COVID-19 patients and additional patients as required. Kane, along with consultant @aecom and subcontractors worked hard with 24/7 shifts and delivered six months’ worth of work over a seven week timeframe. 🚉 MRT Sungai Buloh - Serang - Putrajaya (SSP Line)⠀ Expected completion: mid-year, 2022⠀ ⠀ ⠀ The concept and vernacular of the MRT’s station design draws influence from the traditional Malay House. The particular component of the “Serambi” (below) was the receiving porch of the Malaysian home before entering the main hall or living spaces.⠀ ⠀ As a transitional element transcends from traditional Malaysian timber construction vernacular. After about a year of planning, bidding the project, and moving the FD into the temporary quarters the public will begin to see progress on the Pinehurst Fire station! Mobilization of the site began on Monday. The construction fence company will begin installation along the perimeter of the project site. Abatement began on Monday as well and will take about 3-4 weeks. During the week of 9/21 site clearing and tree removal will begin to take place. Demolition of the old fire station will begin to take place during the week of the 28th but may be earlier. The only structural change to the Firestation since the start has been the removal of four antenna whips on the building and replaced with one on the back side that can be seen in this rendering. The Fire Department requested this and this station can now serve as a backup communication center if the central station was to ever run into a problem. - @town_of_billerica on Instagram
