ORIGINAL TODAY ————————————— HERNING, 10-JUL-2020, 19:31 This is Valdemar Madsen, wearing a FISHERMAN sweater. The year is 1930, he is at Odden, Sealand, Denmark — fishing after blue-fin tuna. This is the oldest image, we have of a FISHERMAN sweater. We know with certainty that we made this sweater since 1923, and probably since our founding in 1919. And we did not change the design. A key trait is our signature “bubbles” ( in danish: knopper ). So here is the quiz: How many bubbles do we use in a panel on the chest? Three panels, how many rows of bubbles each? #snsherning #siden1919 #originaltoday #fishermansweater - @snsherning on Instagram

On this date, nearly a century ago, Thursday, September 21, 1922, the city established The Cal F. Johnson Park in honor of Cal F. Johnson. It was established for the Black residents of the city. Johnson invested money to make substantial improvements to the park including, lights, sidewalks, a Memorial Fountain and an Archway Monument. Johnson also spent his own money for the maintenance of the park. • • In 1956 the Cal Johnson Recreation Center was built in the park where it still stands today. - @beckculturalexchangecenter on Instagram

Did you know Kári Skin is located in one of the nation’s oldest school houses? Dating back to the early 1700’s the school house served the local Zion Lutheran Church. The building is gleaming with some of it’s original charm. The brick in the foyer was brought over from Germany, beautiful wooden beams fan overtop of our boutique part of the original A-frame, and 6ft colonial windows dress each treatment room with extraordinary natural light. The Great Storm made landfall on this day in 1900. It would mark the defining moment of #Galvestons History and its effects are still felt today. In collaboration with @RosenbergLibrarys Galveston & Texas History Center, #GalvestonHistory takes a tour through our shared archives of images to reflect on the 1900 Storm today at 2:30 p.m. at facebook.com/galvestonhistory. . The storm was the deadliest natural disaster in United States history and the fourth-deadliest Atlantic hurricane overall. Person includes women. These were the essential words in the Electoral Act 1893 giving women in New Zealand the right to vote in the parliamentary elections. Today marks the 127th anniversary of women winning this human right! This was the culmination of a long campaign by dedicated and persistent women, such as Kate Sheppard and Amy Daldey, who organised meetings, wrote letters to the newspapers and organised petitions to parliament asking for the right to vote. This is a photo of the Ethanac Cash Store in the Ethanac community, which was named for Ethan Alan Chase a citrus grower in the area. Later the name was changed to Romoland to accurately reflect its proximity to the Ramola Farms community. Any guesses as to what these masked men are up to? . They are dusting for Mormon crickets, the grasshopper-like insects so-named for the early Mormon settlers who struggled to protect their crops from hungry swarms. . Today, you might spot them on the highway; when squished in large numbers, they can make the road surface slick. . The progression of No 5 firehall... The first photo was taken in 1913 in front of the original No 5 firehall located on the corner of Vernon and Keefer in the Strathcona neighbourhood. The second photo shows our second No 5 firehall opening on April 2, 1952 at E 54th and Kerr. The third photo was taken recently of the newest addition to VFRS. It’s our new No 5 firehall at Champlain Heights with YWCA Pacific Spirit Terrace occupying the floors above. . . . . . 📸: Vancouver Firefighters Historical Society #history #flashbackfriday #IAFF18 #vancouverfirefighters #firefighters #firstresponders #vancouver #yvr - @vancouverfirefighters on Instagram

For #MuseumMonday we share a photo from opening day of Seaforth School in 1922, courtesy of the City of Burnaby Archives. The one room school served 20 students. In 1983, the historic building was moved from its original location at 7881 Government Road to the Burnaby Village Museum and in April 1987 the school was opened to the public as part of the Museum’s permanent exhibition. During your visit to the Museum, check out the school and chat with the school teacher. The Museum is open Wednesday to Sunday, 11am-4:30pm. Admission is free. The Season 2 finale of the Story of Miami podcast is here! In 1896 we tell the story of how, despite all the odds, our wonderful city was officially born. Listen at the link in our bio, or stream on iTunes or your favorite podcast app. Scroll right for some incredible pictures, and check out the Episode 21 page on our website to see more. Pictured in this post: 1) This 1896 image faces north on Avenue D. The large two-story building with five windows above housed Willis Myers’ Lobby Pool and Billiard Parlor on its first floor. The second floor was the location of the incorporation meeting that brought the City of Miami into existence. 2) The grounds of Ft. Dallas, Julia Tuttle’s homestead, shortly before Flagler’s first visit. This image looks east towards the mouth of the Miami River and bay. The Brickells’ trading post is visible top right, across the river. 3) Makeshift huts in the woods near Tuttles property that were hastily constructed by 95ers who rushed into Miami after it was announced that a new Flagler town would be built at Miami. 4) This 1895 image depicts an “early view of 1st Street.” This may be either today’s S. 1st Street, in downtown, or N. 1st Street, two blocks farther north, or it may be the original “1st Street,” today known as N. 11th Street - the northern extremity of the planned city. 5) A family outside their home in 1896. 6) Early street scene on North Miami Avenue in 1896. 7) A view looking north on Avenue D, todays Miami Avenue, in 1896. 8) Group of people gathered on East Flagler Street at 1st Avenue in 1896. This was known as 12th Street at the time. 9) Groundbreaking ceremony for the Royal Palm Hotel at the north bank of the mouth of the Miami River. In the background stands the Brickells’ home and trading post. March 15, 1896. 10) The front page of the first issue of Miami’s first newspaper, the Miami Metropolis. He was promoted to Rear Admiral in 1862, reassigned to Washington, DC and administrative duty. Goldsborough had a long career in the US Navy. He was appointed Midshipman at the age of seven in 1812 and began active service in 1816. He retired as Commander of the Washington Navy Yard in 1873. - @portcolumbus on Instagram

Looking south from Elbow Lane in Siasconset over the footbridge toward Sunset Heights on Ocean Avenue, circa 1880s. The Sunset Heights development and the bridge were built by Charles H. Robinson, and Dr. Franklin A. Ellis in 1873. The 90-foot-long bridge was built to span the gulley and to connect the new houses with the main part of Sconset. In the background, on the left, is a boardwalk that went below the bank to the Siasconset railroad station. This same year the Ocean View House was also built on Main Street in Sconset.
