Jestem błyszczącym, jasnym wężem i sunę przez poszycie. Głeboko we mnie tkwi gorące miejsce, które pulsuje w rytm lasu. Kiedyś miałem twarz i imię. 16 września premierę będzie mieć długo wyczekiwana przeze mnie książka. Książka jednego z moich ulubionych, polskich pisarzy. Mowa tu oczywiście o nowej powieści Jakuba Małeckiego, o jakże intrygującym tytule Saturnin. O czym w ogóle jest ta historia? O rodzinie, o większych i mniejszych tajemnicach, które łączą pokolenia, ale przede wszystkim jest to opowieść o odkrywaniu siebie. Dążeniu do tego co upragnione, ale tak ulotne. Główny bohater, Saturnin Markiewicz poszukuje wraz z matką swojego dziadka. Poznaje krok po kroku rodziną historię i zapuszcza się coraz bardziej w przeszłość. Nie od dziś wiadomo, że Pan Małecki ma dar do kreowania bohaterów. Robi to z pełną świadomością i ogromną czułością. Nie inaczej jest w przypadku Saturnina. Jest to bohater z krwi i kości, a czytelnik ma możliwość, odkryć w nim choć cząstkę siebie. Podobnie ma się z Tadeuszem Markiewiczem. Człowiekiem, który przeżył wojnę. I tu należą się wielkie brawa, bo okres wojenny i losy wojaka zostały przedstawione kapitalnie. To zdecydowanie moja ulubiona część tej opowieści. Ważną rzeczą jest też to, co moim zdaniem wpływa na odbiór tej książki, że to bardzo osobista książka Autora. Rzecz ta inspirowana jest dziejami rodziny Pana Kuby. Oczywiście zgrabnie wplecionymi w wykreowaną historię. Naprawdę tę intymność tu czuć. Przeczytajcie posłowie. Czy to najlepsza powieść Autora? Moim zdaniem nie. Zabrakło mi tu magii, która charakteryzowała chociażby Dygot czy ubiegłoroczny Horyzont. Zabrakło mi zaskoczenia i pulsujących pod skórą emocji. Co nie zmienia faktu, że to bardzo dobra książka, napisana pięknym, plastycznym językiem. As a physical media collector, these are the types of things that get me excited. I’ve been waiting for a release of Ari Aster’s Midsommar Director’s Cut since seeing it in theaters a year ago. I love the fact that A24 keeps collectors in mind by releasing high quality products like this. The movie comes in this clothbound case, with a foreword by Martin Scorsese and 60+ pages of art from the film. Not to mention this is on a 4K disc. I have an exhibition opening October 1st at Nassauischer Kunstverein in Wiesbaden, Germany. This is for the Follow Fluxus award I received. Since I am unable to travel to Germany I will be mailing weekly instructions to the kunsterverein. This series of instructions was developed with my five year old daughter. They were lessons and activities we did as a result of the closure of in-person daycare and schools. This is a physical mailing list. One mailing will come per week of the exhibition (32 total). #Silberfischchen kennen wir fast alle, #Papierfischchen eher nicht. Den Unterschied zwischen den beiden #Insekten kann man ja auch kaum sehen, da benötigt man schon eine Lupe. Dabei sind Papierfischchen mittlerweile durchaus verbreitet. Ihre Lieblingsspeise ist Zellulose, also Papier und Kartonage aller Art. Im Unterschied zu Silberfischchen kommen sie auch in trockener Umgebung sehr gut klar, und weil sie gern die dunklen Ecken und Nischen von Häusern bevölkern, bekommt man sie nicht sehr häufig zu Gesicht. Dort, wo sie ungestört leben können, richten sie große Zerstörungen an – #Archive und #Bibliotheken müssen sich wirklich was dazu einfallen lassen! Im Landesarchiv NRW sind in allen Häusern Fallen aufgestellt worden, die regelmäßig überprüft werden, und – toi toi toi – bisher ist alles im grünen Bereich. Leider finden wir immer wieder in den Behörden, für die wir zuständig sind, Papierfischchen. Befallenes Schriftgut können wir natürlich nicht ins Archiv holen, deswegen gehen alle Akten, die angeliefert werden, erst mal für 24 h in die Tiefkühltruhe. The 8th edition of The Wildlife Techniques Manual has been published and CKWRI had a big role in this go to reference book for wildlife biologists and managers. Five faculty (Fidel Hernandez, Tim Fulbright, Lenny Brennan, Humberto Perotto, and David Hewitt) and a Ph.D. student (Zackary Pearson) from CKWRI were chapter authors. In addition, nine alumni from CKWRI were also chapter authors in the this two-volume series. Sundays are for walks on the beach and looking at the sea life. Although I haven’t been outside today, I have had my fix by pouring over the illustrations in ‘Beneath The Waves’ by Helen Ahpoensiri. How talented is this artist? It is lovely to see a factual book which is unashamed to be decorative. I remember as a kid walking into Australian Geographic stores and being amazed by all the incredible science-y toys there and wanting to leave with everything. Growing up, I learned the brand is much bigger than just a toy store and does a fantastic job of championing Australian stories many of us arent aware of – especially in wildlife conservation.⠀ ⠀ Im so thrilled I could contribute a story of my own to the Sept/Oct issue, on sale now, about how mans best friend has been enlisted to save Australias endangered animals. I learned a lot about our canine friends, their incredible potential in scientific research and some of the inspiring people working with them (plus I got to pat a few good doggos).⠀ ⠀ Shout out to Natalie Filmer and Madeleine De Gabriele at @zoosvictoria for your guidance and arranging behind the scenes access at Healesville Sanctuary and Dunkeld, experts David Williams, Naomi Hodgens, Dr La Toya Jamieson, Chris Hartnett and Marissa Parrott for your insights.
