INTO THE OPEN LIGHT Oils on paper 70 cm x 36 cm 2020 This is the latest painting I made to illustrate the cover of the new album by @cellarvesselofficial and the concept of it, was so related to the only song I composed two years ago, that I based the painting on it. A song about somebody trapped in a crumbled cave pushing below their root to reach the outside. #SubmarineSunday ⚓ On July 31, 1945 USS Bullhead (SS-332) left Fremantle, Australia on her third war patrol. They were headed to the Java Sea to join a wolfpack with USS Capitaine (SS-336) and USS Puffer (SS-268); then, on September 5, they proceeded to Subic Bay to patrol on their own. Bullhead arrived in the area on August 6, but Capitaine did not arrive until August 13. On August 12, Capitaine ordered Bullhead to take position the following day in a scouting line with Capitaine and Puffer. There was no reply and on August 15, Capitaine reported, Have been unable to contact Bullhead by any means since arriving in area.” At the time, the area was fairly crawling with subs—USS Cod (SS-224), USS Chub (SS-329), Capitaine, and Puffer, as well as the British HMS Taciturn and HMS Thorough— it is difficult to point to one Japanese anti-submarine attack as the one which sank Bullhead. However, the most likely one occurred on August 6, 1945, when an enemy army plane attacked with depth charges (when Bullhead was presumably cruising on the surface off the coast of Bali). The pilot claimed two direct hits, and for ten minutes thereafter, there was a great amount of gushing oil and air bubbles rising in the water. Since the position given is very near the Bali coast, it is presumed that the proximity of mountain peaks shortened Bullheads radar range and prevented her from receiving a warning of the planes approach. Bullhead was the 52nd and final American submarine lost during World War II. She was lost with 84 men aboard. May they never be forgotten. Bullhead is credited with sinking four enemy ships (1,800 tons), damaging three ships (1,300 tons). She also rescued three airmen from a downed B-29. 📸 1: USN photo Print of the Bullhead (SS-332). Landscape is the first noteworthy American pictorial genre, but it is a tacit agreement that the gender reached its zenith with the Hudson River School. My encounter with the work of this group of landscape painters confirmed its symbolic and aesthetic link with European Romanticism, while raising a nearly pantheistic character of painting, a sublimation of nature connected with everything and the concept of God. Artists such as Frederic Church incorporate the concept of “the sublime” to the landscape painting on this side of the world. This concept had already been addressed by Kant in his book Critique of Judgment (Kritik der Urteilskraft) to approach art and had exponents in Europe, such as Turner. The meaning of “the sublime” as sacred —which opens the possibility of approaching nature in its divine and monumental character— is close enough to the painting process which results from my meditation practice. After all these years of helping people record and finish their own music I’m happy and proud to announce the release of some of my own with @jeffbertie and @theshoesunderground ! This project is years in the making, with months of abandonment throughout due to busy schedules and only bits of time to focus on presenting a complete and interesting package. The point was to make an album that was sonically amusing for all listeners regardless of taste or genre, making sure there was always something to “catch your ear” as well as fun for musicians who like to hear something more stimulating on the performance side of things (an album for musicians, by musicians!). What came from that is mostly rock, a little experimental, nuggets of prog, influences of art, and our own versions of catchy hooks, counterpoint fun, and sonic soundscapes that ideally bring each little song world to life. BATALLA DE LOS CAMPOS CATALÁUNICOS La batalla, ocurrida en 451, no fue más que una de las consecuencias de la inestabilidad que sufría la provincia de la Galia en en todo el siglo V. Entre las invasiones germanas que asomaban todo el imperio, las bagaudas (esclavos huidos, campesinos empobrecidos, desertores…) que controlaban y saqueaban zonas del norte de Hispania y buena parte de la Galia, las continuas guerras civiles entre romanos que sacaban sus efectivos de provincias como ésta, esquilmándolas, la Galia era un territorio profundamente inestable. Aecio, general romano de origen godo, logró el poder el Galia, ejerciendo de magister militum de dicha provincia, y siendo protegido continuamente con su famosa guardia huna. Sin embargo, el pueblo huno, bajo el mando de Atila, que prohibió a su pueblo servir de mercenario para Roma, atacó la inestable provincia gala con la supuesta razón de atacar a los visigodos asentados en la Galia, también enemigos de los romanos. Sin embargo, Aecio reconoció el peligro antes de que Atila lo sorprendiera y firmó un foedus con los visigodos, que lucharían para él a cambio del territorio que ocupaban.
