Congratulations to Master of Landscape Architecture student Sing Zixin Chen on receiving an ASLA 2020 Honor Award in the Urban Design category for her thesis project: Adaptive Traditions of the Eastern Waterfront of Mumbai, India. Out of 1000+ submissions, Sing’s work was selected as one of 35 Student Award winners who represent the best of landscape architecture. In addition to the prestigious recognition, Sing’s work is also featured as the cover art on the corresponding issue of Landscape Architecture Magazine (@landarchmag). Sing’s award-winning thesis project examines Mumbai’s Eastern Waterfront, which has a coexistence relationship with Koliwada village life, the area’s unique ecological habitat, and heavy industry. The project explores a unique form of documentation and captures the complex, dynamic, and intertwined spatial and material relationships of the site. It also recognizes the site’s cultural context and its people’s way of life by introducing a design movement that builds on indigenous and vernacular infrastructure to generate sustainable, resistant, and nature-based technology. The project aims to rethink and reconsider the land’s interface with the water, which plays an important role in the villagers’ livelihood and cultural and spiritual practices. So it’s been a busy week this week in the cake world (Christmas baby making folks) and sadly we’ve had to turn down quite a few last minute orders because we were fully booked. This in itself is brilliant and very welcome however one of our clients unfortunately forgot that they had rescheduled their cake from March to September 4th so we made this super girly, flowery butterfly filled number and it didn’t get to go to the party (and we didn’t get our balance payment). We contacted some charities but they wouldn’t take it because of nuts and Covid concerns so I decided what better place to send a super feminine 21st birthday cake than to be enjoyed on a Friday by the removal lads on our industrial estate. @burkeandwills_removals have moved both my entire business and my entire house and I can’t recommend them highly enough to anyone wanting to move in a stress free, calm and genuinely enjoyable manner all over the country and beyond. They also weren’t as expensive as I thought they’d be. Admittedly they could have smiled for the photo given that they were about to gnaw into a £600 cake but moving is a serious business and these guys are the best. - @cakesbyrobincakes on Instagram

We Love this blast from the past photo! Arlington future with stadiums and entertainment goes way back. This picture is of the Turnpike Stadium prior to opening in 1965 as a minor league baseball stadium with 10,000 seat capacity. The Fort Worth Cats of the Texas League moved there as the Dallas-Fort Worth Spurs, and played there for the next seven years, setting many Texas League attendance records, especially after it expanded to 20,500 seats in 1970. It was built to @mlb specs at the time to attract a major league team. In 1971 the then Washington Senators announced their move to Arlington Texas and the rest is history! Una vez llegado a casa después de la Copa de Europa de selecciones he decidido que ya es el momento de terminar lo que ha sido una temporada asombrosa para mí, donde superamos todas las dificultades para sacar lo mejor de nosotros! . No sé que podría explicar antes, pues este año ha sido simplemente una experiencia increíble llena de momentos únicos, que sin duda no me hubiera imaginado que viviría hace tan solo 12 meses! . Poniéndonos al lío, todo empezó en Buenos Aires, en los Juegos Olímpicos de la juventud, esta fue una competición realmente emocionante, donde todos los atletas disfrutamos de unas gradas abarrotadas de personas que no nos dejaban de animar ni por un segundo. Allí conseguí la sexta posición, en un campeonato que considero inolvidable, ya que fue el primer paso a todo lo que vino a continuación, y además fue una vivencia que me hizo mejorar mi capacidad competitiva y sentir la emoción de competir a gran nivel y rodeado de amantes del atletismo . Todo siguió rodando perfectamente en la temporada indoor, allí es donde mis primeros sueños de atleta se cumplieron. Esto comenzó con el campeonato de España absoluto de pista cubierta, era mi primer campeonato nacional absoluto y yo venía atrás en el ranking. Yo venía sin muchas esperanzas de hacer un gran papel en él, simplemente quería intentar bajar mi registro personal. Corrí las semifinales, conseguí MMP indoor y me metí en la final (por tiempos), no me lo creía! Era un auténtico triunfo, pero lo mejor aún estaba por llegar, pues el día siguiente en la final fui capaz de sacar fuerzas y escalar hasta la 3era posición en una recta final frenética, consiguiendo así la medalla de bronze. Ce projet est fictif et nest pas issu dune commande. Cest un projet étudiant, imaginé pour lécole Penninghen à Paris. Projet étudiant fictif en collaboration avec @maximerkham pour @ecole_penninghen . Exposition fictive située à l’Abbaye de Fontenay sur le thème de La méditation dans l’art contemporain. Exposition fictive ouverte au public d’avril à septembre 2021, les artistes Wolfgang Laib, Tania Mouraud et Lee Ufan sont exposés. Nous avons imaginé une scénographie minimale afin de révéler les œuvres. L’exposition fictive débute devant l’abbatiale. Le porche de Fontenay, aujourd’hui démoli, est rebâti en bois avec la structure apparente afin de créer des jeux d’ombres et de lumière. Dans la nef de l’abbatiale, l’œuvre Pollen from Hazelnut de Wolfgang Laib est un champ de pollen disséminé sur un socle en pierre. Plus loin, dans le transept, une microarchitecture noire abrite l’œuvre One more night de Tania Mauraud. Gradin recouvert d’un blanc immaculé, propice à l’introspection, la chambre est conçue comme un environnement « psychosensoriel », et diffuse une fréquence sonore planante. Enfin, dans l’ancien dortoir des moines cisterciens, l’oeuvre Relatum de Lee Ufan dialogue entre les éléments issus de la nature et ceux nés de l’industrie des hommes. Cet exercice de résonance est à l’image de la recherche entreprise par l’artiste coréen. Celle-ci consiste à mettre en relation l’opaque et le transparent, ce qui est fabriqué et ce qui ne l’est pas. Une rencontre « en sculpture » entre le « fait » et le « non-fait ». Parallèlement, nous avons imaginé que conférences autour du thème de la méditation dans l’art contemporain pourraient être organisé. Une assise circulaire en bois au centre du cloître accueil les participants et invite au dialogue. Hey there Cool Cats and Kittens! Welcome to another beautiful #GreenProjectWednesday 🌧 The University of Arizona has had some challenges that other schools may never face. Because our school was dropped right in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, the University of Arizona has always had to get creative with the use and collection of water resources. 💦 Old Main, arguably one of UAs most iconic locales, has some of the most pristine landscaping on campus. This type of landscaping is often referred to as Xeriscaping, which means that the plants are drought tolerant and little water is needed to maintain the landscape. However, the landscape design around Old Main is not just drought resistant, its a Water Harvesting Basin! 🌊 The Department of Soil, Water, and Environmental Science collaborated with this unique landscape and was able to install water harvesting basins that collect the rainwater that would have just been sitting there to evaporate! ☔️ In terms of environmental health, water is one of Arizonas biggest issues. Here are some tips on how you can save water, both on and off campus! You can... Collect Rainwater! Now this is a beautiful thing 🙏🏼 After many attempts over many years (and many tears), a world class water jump facility now exists in Australia. 🙌🏼 So many people and so much effort has been put into this❤️ This is a game changer for our winter athletes in Australia.... in so many ways. They get to train on home soil (which also means they can work/study and be close to their support network). They have a world class facility that will be open all year round (all but one in the world are under snow for 6months). They’ll be able to alternate between snow and water (which no one else in the world can do) #edge ..... We get to recruit more athletes so if you’re interested get in touch with @owi_aus and @snowaust 😉...we also get to train and develop Aussie coaches 👏🏼 And YOU get to witness the awesomeness of freestyle skiing.
