Heading home from Arizona today! It was a packed trip! Started in Tonto National Forest and saw wild horses then went kayaking down the salt river. Drove on to Sedona and hiked to the Devil’s Bridge (currently pictured)! Finished off strong with the Grand Canyon and even went through Bearizona! It was nice going to the Grand Canyon without having as many people as usual! Makes me want to hit up even more National Parks! 😍 It was a go go go trip, just the way I like it! My love of traveling cannot be quenched even though international travel isn’t an option right now. It looks differently with more road trips and backpacking and camping, but I love it and feel so blessed to get out and do it! Lots of editing awaits me back home, but I feel refreshed and ready to tackle it all again (after a good nights sleep!)! Bye Arizona! Last year she was the Crew Boss for the @adkmtnclub’s Professional Trail Crew, one of only 5 women in the 40+ year history of the trail crew. Now she is the Executive Program Assistant for the @adirondackcouncil. Last winter she became a registered lobbyist and lobbied state leaders to direct more funding for trail maintenance and solutions for overuse in the Adirondacks. I was very lucky last week to be forwarded an E-book from a great man Chad Hermsen last week. He could probably hear the pain in my voice as we chatted and he recommended I listen to a book by Hugh Van Cuylenburg called @theresilienceproj It took me a couple of days but I did and the first chapter was very confronted as Hugh talked about his sister Georgia who battled with eating disorders. Being so close to that with previous partners and friends I found myself crying at certain points but I pushed on. The book teaches about meditation as well as the mindset around gratitude, empathy and mindfulness. These are all things I remembered and valued from my time as an ambassador for @smilingmind nearly a decade ago, reference to the picture down the bottom haha, but largely forgotten. Somewhat deliberately. We are all struggling right now for many different reasons and all have value. But we need to be grateful for what we have in a time where we might have lost so much. Mirror Lake, Yosemite by Bob Kolbrener Although The Ansel Adams Gallery is currently closed, we wanted to share this beautiful image from our current exhibit! - Yosemite and The West: Photographs by Bob Kolbrener. (link in bio to Bobs work). My pursuit of fine art photography took a major leap forward when in 1968, having been an amateur photographer for five years, I innocently wandered into Best Studio, now the Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite National Park. Before me in all their glory were six Ansel Adams photographs of epic size and imagery. The burning incense and classical music set the tone for an experience that I can easily recall today with exactitude. The next spring, 1969, I was again in Yosemite. This time I was a student at Ansel’s workshop. During the next eight years, I attended another Ansel Adams workshop in Yosemite, as well as his workshop in Carmel, California. In 1974, I was hired by the Ansel Adams Gallery for a summer of teaching photography in Yosemite. In 1977 Ansel invited me to join him as an instructor, along with Yousuf Karsh at Ansel’s spring workshop. My memories of Ansel and his workshops evoke the feeling of energy. Just being in Yosemite and knowing that the Great Man was also there was an inspiration to all. We hung on his every word and gesture! More than forty-five years ago I made a commitment to continue in the Ansel Adams tradition of “straight” photography. There is no use of computers or multiple imagery. There is no print or negative enhancement such as bleaching or intensification. All of my photographs are made in the Great American West using 2 ¼” and 8 x 10” cameras. I print up to 40 x 50” inches the “old fashioned way” using fiber-based paper, tray processing, and selenium toner. After ten years with the festival and seven years as our Festival Producer, Maggie Barton Baird @mbandcompany has decided to transition out of this role to create room for new energy and perspective. We are inspired by her decision and are grateful for this opportunity to make space for IBPOC leadership within our festival and the Canadian arts community. ⠀ ⠀ In her tenure as Festival Producer, Maggie has navigated incredible obstacles including producing the 2015 Festival after the fire that engulfed the Roxy Theatre on 124th Street (the main festival venue); transitioning from former Festival Director, Steve Pirot, to current Festival Director, Ellen Chorley, in 2017; and most recently presenting a completely digital online version of Nextfest this past June. SALENTO IN TASCA 1104 settimana dal 28 agosto al 3 settembre 2020 La meravigliosa scenografia del Convento degli Agostiniani ed i suoi archi a Melpignano hanno caratterizzato la 23ª edizione del concertone de “La Notte della Taranta”. Nell’occasione i redattori del periodico salentino hanno incontrato una delle principali protagoniste della serata, Gianna Nannini che dopo sedici anni è tornata sul palco dell’evento salentino per la copertina del numero 1104 di Salento in Tasca. Un appuntamento trasmesso in differita dai RaiDue con uno dei momenti annualmente più attesi dell’estate salentina che quest’anno è andato in scena senza la consueta cornice di pubblico, capace di donare all’evento ed ai protagonisti dello stesso quell’energia particolare che solo chi ha lo ha vissuto in passato può capire. Un palco minimal e teatrale, in una festa ricca di luci e di voci, ha accolto l’abbraccio dell’Orchestra popolare e dell’OrchestraRoma Sinfonietta dirette dal maestro Paolo Buonvino.
