It’s die-cut, so the dance floor is the album sleeve, and pulls out from behind my silhouette. The album is enveloped in a lonely dance floor. The back of the sleeve features my dancing feet, and the back cover a beautiful font conceptualized by Andrew and designed by @5pt5panoramic If you’re super curious, you can peep the song titles and hum the titles to yourself and then when the album comes out, you can compare your imagined idea of the song to the actual song. Hi Friends Many of you visited In Sheep’s Clothing over the past couple years since opening. I was proud of what we built there and the community that came together over their shared appreciation for vinyl records and high fidelity sound systems. (Also of course for Japanese whisky) The pandemic has made it impossible to operate a bar in a safe and thoughtful way without losing money. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending upon how you look at it, ilI saw this coming back in April and knew it would be a struggle to try and maintain a physical space. So we are pivoting for the time being to keep discovery alive and thriving. A few of us a part of @insheepsclothinghifi have been working to create a platform that will bridge the gap between now and when we are able to open up other spaces for us to gather in and enjoy the kind of vibe we built at In Sheep’s Clothing. We are close to launching this platform and are inviting folks to give it a test run while we work out the bugs. Please visit the ISC Instagram to get per@is soon to explore what ISC digital will be. Our answer to the short attention span tik tok kinda of music marketing that I believe is adding very little to the culture around why Music is important. ISC online will be a discovery tool with features around interesting albums and other pieces a part of analog culture. This is a big one. I grew up with the original Tron and all it’s neon accented weirdness, I vividly remember seeing it on TV as a kid and then drawing Light Cycles and Recognizers. When the sequel was announced I must have watched the trailer a hundred times - the glossy black sheen and ultraviolet glow of the grid absolutely blew my mind. Even ten years later it is a staggeringly beautiful film to behold. When I was spending my time in dark and sweaty indie clubs the soundtrack to youthful abandon more often than not was Daft Punk. To me they are untouchable and this score is similarly so. Being asked to make the art for the rerelease of the Tron Legacy soundtrack is a LITERAL dream come true, and I have so much thanks to give @moshafeek and @spencerwaltz for trusting me with it (especially because before I even got thinking about what the artwork would actually be, my first questions were “can we do a slipcase with spot varnish?”). I can’t wait to see the finished album in all its glory and I guess I’ll have to finally buy a record player now, right? (And before YOU ALL ASK, there won’t be a poster of this. Swipe! I can finally show this one off. It was my good friend @darrenteepei’s birthday recently, and I wanted to give him a canvas of one of his favourite scans I had reworked. I still wasn’t 100% happy with it. So I went back in and brought it back to life...again. Putting the final result side by side with the original footage and the original scan I’m super happy with it. When I think of this quote I think of the artists who helped take the many disparate strands of disco, soul, funk and electro and create the movement towards the nascent house scene. Artists out of Chicago and New York including Frankie Knuckles, @lillouisofficial, Ron Hardy, @djpierrephuture, Mr Fingers, Larry Levan, @jessesaundrs & @marshall_jefferson. They all helped create the blueprint for house music. Utlising brand new instruments including the TB-303 & Akai MPC60 as well as traditional splicing methods they crafted music which still sounds fresh and exciting today. Of course Thomas Bangalter, the source of this quote, is one of those who has added his own touch to house and electronic music and we always hold out hope there will be more music coming from him.
