For a dream to work it needs to be a combination of both souls 💜 . For our project and dream lifestyle @cdg_mx_retreat this year has been tough and one hell of a rollercoaster for me and @ryang62 , not only are we building a motocross track, but we have massive plans for reforming the house and making a ‘retreat style’ complex 🧘♀️🦋 Firstly building something to this scale requires everything to be planned and approved beforehand (which has taken us 3 years 😳) and then Corona hit and put a hold on everything as well as copious problems with the Spaniards 🙄🤦🏼♀️ . I am writing this post whilst on the way to our land, and we are still, like everytime we go just so excited 🤩 It just shows that however bumpy the road, if you truly BELIEVE in something it will happen, no matter how long it takes or the problems that occur along the way 💪🏼 . In the past week, I have seen so many amazing things happen! We came upon a car accident on a two lane road and stopped to help. Every single car that came by stopped to make sure everyone was safe and see what they could do. EVERY SINGLE CAR! Then, last night at work, day shift nurses stayed well into the night shift to help, as they knew it was going to be chaotic! There is a lot of bad in the world, but don’t let that distract you from the overwhelming good! I live around and work with some truly amazing people! I just got back from a hiking trip to the mountains of Utah, and it was amazing. As anticipated, the act of disappearing left me inspired and invigorated, and I wanted to share a few thoughts. Retreating, for me, is a necessary discipline, one I am still learning. Many great artists throughout history have removed themselves from civilization to connect more meaningfully with their work, sometimes against their own will. Life is constantly asking us to let go of our illusions so that we can hold on to what is true. Sometimes, though, we are slow to recognize these moments—a death in the family, a lay-off, a divorce—but change is always happening, often disguised as loss, inviting us into greater transformation. Our job is to recognize the invitation. To do this, we must wrestle with the fact that who we are, in many respects, is an idea: a story we tell ourselves, reinforced by an environment. When we let go of this idea, we are free to re-imagine almost everything about our lives. As Lao Tzu wrote: “A sound man by not advancing himself stays the further ahead of himself, by not confining himself to himself sustains himself outside himself: by never being an end in himself, he endlessly becomes himself.” This is the quest of the artist, the visionary, the creator: to endlessly become ourselves by letting go of our assumed identities. We must go to the heart of life, tasting the very marrow of it, and only then may we re-emerge to talk about it with any sincerity. At one point on my trip, I slid down a rock face and fell face first into a small gorge, worried I might break a bone, my phone, or even my skull. The danger of the experience was both exhilarating and frightening, and I need more of that in my life. If we want to do work that is honest and true, we have to find new edges. We have to go beyond ourselves to discover that we are more than we think. This is the only way to truly grow. When we don’t choose to disappear, we lose ourselves in the haze of an ordinary life. One way or another, it seems, you’re going to have to get lost. Why not do it in a way where you might discover something new? - @jeffgoins on Instagram

Tomorrow afternoon marks the end of a very weird, tense, whirlwind trip to America and back during this very strange time. “Gut health”, “ gut microbiome” and “gut-brain axis” are phrases we are hearing all the time at the moment, and research is mounting to support the relevance to mental health. It’s all really fascinating stuff, especially for us Nutrition/Psych geeks 🤓🤓, but certain headlines are really starting to hit a (vagus) nerve. . . For my rant about this, head over to the lovely @isarobinson_ ‘s website for my article on Food & Mood (link in bio). I talk about how the field of Nutritional Psychiatry is burgeoning, and why this is such an important area of research, both for me personally but also at a societal and public health level. In the next 5 years I’m sure we will see more trials like the SMILES trial contributing to the body of evidence for the role of dietary interventions as an adjunct to mental health treatment. And then eventually, I hope we see food become a higher priority in not only prevention but also in primary care settings, because it really does have the power to improve outcomes 🤞🏼 . . Unfortunately though, diet culture still has its way of sneaking in and creating rules out of the genuine science. A certain newspaper’s article about the restrictive “happiness diet” 2-week plan to “smile yourself slim” is just an example (🤦🏼♀️). There are steps we can take to improve our diet which will have an effect on our mental wellbeing, but this does not include restriction. In fact, the studies mentioned included dietary interventions where there was no focus on restricting food intake or on weight. In doing so, and in ignoring our desires and intuition, it is likely to do more harm than good 🙅🏼♀️ . . I never used to be comfortable in front of a camera, and I certainly wasnt confident enough to stand up in front of a crowd and give a talk. As an introvert, these are both skills Ive had to learn. And like any other skill, they become easier with practice. The more I said yes to readings and appearances on panels, the more comfortable I became doing them. I realised that I could just get up and talk and people would listen, and if I did dry up or lose my place, they would be forgiving. I even learned to make them laugh, and theres nothing that endears you to an audience more than genuinely making them laugh. So, if an introvert like me can learn to do that, then you also have the strength to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. I felt defeated - I was doing everything right for the first time in my life and shit hits the fan? Why me? It was, and is, reality. Living life on life’s terms wasn’t comfortable at first, but it was something I grew to understand and has now been the way I go about everyday life. The emotions too, were a load to tackle. You see, going through tough days and filtering through the emotions I was once numb to, was growth. Recovery is a journey through a lot of happy, empowering times but when the low times hit, let it happen, don’t try to control the uncontrollable. Feel those emotions of life but don’t drown yourself in booze because of it. It was a knee jerk reaction for me. I didn’t want to feel it, so I numbed it. The hardest part for myself was learning how to not stay there. Having the wind taken from my sails was depressing and it took work and energy to get out of that hole. Just as with anything in life, the more you learn to get out of that hole, the easier it becomes. So don’t take it personal when life throws you curveballs. Go through them, feel those feelings you’ve been suppressing, and learn what helps you get out of it. Eventually, the climbing gets easier, the feelings feel less foreign to you, and those holes may even start becoming less deep. It’s all a part of this journey of sobriety. It’s not because you’re doing it wrong, it’s life trying to teach you something. - @adamacd87 on Instagram

Due to the circuit breaker, our mum wasnt able to work and so we (the offsprings) helped set up Pangcakes to sell home-baked brookies and cookies, so as to enable her to experience the sense of accomplishment in spreading joy to others through her bakes. FINALLY FOLLOWED THE WHITE RABBIT! 🐇 How do rabbits travel? By HAREplane. 🐇 What do rabbits say before they eat? LETTUCE pray. 🐇 Where do rabbits work? At IHOP! 🐇 #sorrynotsorry 😁😇 I am so happy to finally be posting about this place! For MONTHS I was following @kouigncafeyvr’s posts. The buildup got me very excited because I had heard so much about them. 🐇 There was a lot of hype around their White Rabbit cookie, and even though I’m not one to give into hype, when it comes to food I tend to crumble. And crumble I did, because Kouign is very unique. 🐇 I popped in on a recent Friday and met Andrew, Kouign’s big cheese. He told me about how setting up a cafe in Chinatown was his dream, and I have to say I’m so happy that he made this come true. It can be so risky starting up a new place, especially in the current climate. Kouign has only been open a few weeks, and the cafe has taken off so successfully, and it’s been great seeing all the posts and hype about them. 🐇 Being Irish, I had no idea what a White Rabbit was till I came to Vancouver. Andrew was so kind to give me a gift box to celebrate my two year Vancouversary, and I finally got my hands on a White Rabbit cookie. The white rabbit candy is melted into the cookie, and it combines a chewy and soft texture, and it tastes sooooo good. 🐇 As well as this, I got a Golden Lantern, a tender brioche swirl with coconut filling & cream cheese, and speculoos icing. When I bit into this I couldn’t believe what I was tasting. It was something I had never tasted before, especially the icing. It was soft, crispy, creamy, and insanely delectable all in one that I practically inhaled it. 🐇 Lastly was the Kouign - pastry with caramelized sugar, brown butter coconut mochi, chrysanthemum honey drizzle, toasted black sesame, and 24K gold flakes. Yeah. All that in one. My tastebuds were going crazy for this, it was so unique. All those flavours and textures together were making me think how something like this even exists and I’m only trying it now. 🐇 Make sure you get down to Kouign soon. Remembering that can give you back a feeling of control. We cant control our hair loss, but we can choose how it defines us. Im not shaming people who would rather spend hours pouring their balding heart out over three bottles of wine. But if youre the type of person who regularly says this meeting really could have really been an email, and would rather others not give you the awww head tilt, this advice might be for you: 🧑🦲Keep your hair loss story short and sharp. The longer we take to explain something, the bigger thing we build it up to be. Stick to the facts. 🧑🦲Think about what kind of emotion you want to convey. Yes there was a time hair loss caused me pain, but I dont like to dwell on that. So I might say, Hair loss is a small part of my life and Ive dealt with it/Im managing it. 🧑🦲Articulate whether or not youre open to questions and advice. Set boundaries and ask they be respected. Over the past two months I have participated in the #suitupwithdon challenges with Coach @donsaladino . These challenges have brought me to a new level of confidence and power. I have done plenty of challenges before, but none that have made me really want to come back. The difference is that these arent challenges that you grind through, be broken for a week, and then carry on your nornal life. Don challenges not just your fitness, but your lifestyle. For 21 years all I have known is touring. On March 12th, although I didnt know it then, I did my last show for the foreseeable future. I thought wed go home for a few weeks and start touring again. The virus grew, tour after tour got cancelled and I soon realized that I wouldnt be going back on the road anytime soon. Ive always enjoyed baking and have kept a sourdough starter for awhile but with the newfound gift of time I started doing a lot of experimenting; breads, bagels, tortillas and cinnamon rolls. I started selling the rolls in my neighborhood and the feedback was amazing. A few orders of rolls turned into 60, then 80... I realized that this could become a way to support us without any touring income. So, @christincookzito and I decided to make it official and start @thezbakerynashville Im excited not only to be working to support our family but donating back to @musicares to help support my extended touring family! For those of you who missed the announcement: The Fullers have switched gears, sold the RV, and are settling in Tucson, Arizona! Dont worry, FullerLights is still running. Im currently working on a couple of church projects, consulting, and the Apprenticeship will be back in the fall. And, I’m hoping that we can gather for more Backstage events (just as soon as we are able). BUT— I have also stepped into a NEW ROLE as the Pastor of Live Production at Victory Worship Center here in Tucson. Its the perfect blend of technical/creative/relationship-building that I love, and Im eager to gather a team, coach people, and collaborate with friends. This isnt what I planned for 2020, but Im so grateful that I responded to the random voicemail from someone Id never met in Tucson, at a church that wasnt on my radar. I know I’ve been a little quiet over here lately, but it’s definitely been a season of chaos, growth, healing, and quite frankly, discomfort on all levels (but isn’t all growth that way?) So this is just me popping in to say hi, Happy Happy Thanksgiving to all my U.S. friends, and don’t forget to find gratitude in that discomfort. Because without the discomfort, we’d never grow! 🌱 So today, I’m grateful for sooooo many lovely things (like my adventure partner in this pic!), good nourishing yummy food, friends, and family. ❤️🥘 But I’m also learning to be grateful for my all my discomforting anxiety, hormonal imbalance, past gut issues and traumas. Because without them, I wouldn’t have begun my journey of self-discovery & healing - nutritionally, physically, and mentally. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Today I woke up a little later than I usually do. My meditation was shortened, I pulled my card for the day, I read a chapter of “Alcohol is Shit”, and spent the rest of the 20 minutes journaling. (Repetition y’all!) We got coffee, dropped Opie off at preschool and Buxton and I headed out for our daily 3 mile walk. I didn’t not want to go on the walk! On our walk I ran into my lady neighbors and chatted for a few minutes. If I hadn’t gone on the walk, I would have missed this moment. One of the toughest parts of hair loss is its unpredictability. Most often you dont know how it will progress and to what extent, or if it will grow back. The goal is that your mind learns the new route and instantly takes that way without us consciously knowing. This is POSSIBLE.🙌🏻 Plus once, you learn the reframing formula, you can use it over and over again for your entire life. Its what I use myself 🙋🏼♀️ and its helped me through several of my own limiting beliefs! A quick overview of the 3-step reframing system: 1️⃣Recognize the thought Focus on the self-critical thought and address its presence. 2️⃣Define the root and acknowledge its purpose Understand where its coming from. The root is there for a reason and thats okay. Your brain is trying to protect you. Acknowledge its existence and let it know that its no longer serving to protect you in the new way you need. 3️⃣ Self-compassionate reframe Affirm yourself in the new way of thought and the truth in the your present. This could be a self-kind statement that leads to peace, joy, and growth. To go further with this, find the learning style you exceed best in and create a 5-minute self-compassion mindfulness exercise.
