Day 10 of my 100 wishes personal diary challenge. I’m feeling clear and grounded, ideas that are repeating are getting put into other lists and printed out to place on my mirror. What always happens in my last wishes is wishes for humanity, wishes for the loving people of Bali, wishes for my friends, my family and wishes the rise of good things for good people all over the world. One of my wishes has been to take a stroll down the beautiful old towns of Ibiza and in this photoshoot with @may.may I received a wish I didn’t think I’d experience this year. Truly anything is possible, keep wishing, keep expanding your container and keep over riding your old patterns with new positive ones. Taking on a 21 day challenge for yourself whatever that looks like for you, is a step in the right direction. For me this month it’s the 100 wishes challenge, my next month is going to be a no sugar challenge. Yikes! I think I’m ready for it, actually I know I’m ready for it. I get a lot of questions about posing in posts and I am by no means an expert but thought I’d share here! I find that what I’m doing is more important than the background. If I’m taking a photo in a dress, I’ll always swish around to create movement. If there are pockets, hands touching but not shoved in them (two fist bulges don’t look so great). I love a windy day because it can add a cool element to the picture- I always work with it. When I’m not sure what to do with my hands, I’ll bring in a prop: a hat, a bag, flowers, whatever. The best advice I can give is don’t be afraid to feel stupid. Create shapes or letters with your body. I promise even the most awkward poses can look amazing on camera. Some of you may recognize this image. It’s one from my book (Restoration House, available on Amazon and wherever books are sold-link in profile) and it’s just one of the many beautiful images shot by the amazing @tiarrasorte and styled by yours truly. This book was and will always be more than just a book—it’s a thoughtfully curated and written account of the interweaving of my passions: people and purpose. It centers that conversation around the idea of how we live those out in our homes. So many of you have supported this because it speaks directly to the heartbeat of your own lives. Officially 20 weeks with baby number 4... . Fourth time around... less time to “worry”, less time to plan all the things, less time to “nest”. I was saying to my husband last night that I feel like this baby will suddenly come and I may not have caught up mentally that we are actually having a fourth child 🤪 but I feel like he/she is going to slot right into family life. . The more babies I have, the more I have become confident in just letting the baby be a baby and do all the normal baby things without holding onto much expectations on how it “should” look. After the birth of our second, I felt such a compassion towards her... this was her first time in the big, wide world and all she had know for the past 9 months was me: I was her home. So it stayed that way. I carried her, fed her when she wanted without having to stick to the clock, she slept with me (safely) and as I started to feel like she was ready for less of me and more independence, I gently let her move on. Go with your gut Mumma - you want to hold and feed your baby to sleep? do it - you are not going to “create bad habits”, it is normal for a baby to want you close to them often! We don’t need to measure a baby “sleeping through the night” as a badge of honour. They are only little for such a short time and for me, a more gentle, baby led approach has worked best for my babes, and for me too. Follow your peace, not the book or other people’s opinions. . What am I going to do for the next 20 weeks? . 👉🏼slowly start to fill the freezer with snacks, meals etc 👉🏼my @fluidformpilates prenatal classes, aka, my non-negotiable sanity saver! 👉🏼enjoy plenty of one-on-one time with our three children 👉🏼prioritise date nights! (And hopefully a weekend away!) 👉🏼closer to 36 weeks, I will start to express some colostrum to have in the freezer 👉🏼not push myself too much with work. Running a business plus having a family is already enough in itself, let alone carrying a baby as well. I am taking a non-hustle approach and listening to my body 👉🏼booking in some massages! . CW: harm perpetuated in community spaces with specific mention of gender violence Dear friends, A few weeks ago we learned that Andree Peña, known on social media as #SalviHistory, who we’ve collaborated with both online and in person, is being held accountable through a restorative justice process for their predatory behavior around femmes and other harmful actions. CISPES is in solidarity with those who have been harmed by Andree’s actions. We support survivors as they seek justice for the harm they experienced. We are discussing next steps on how to support CISPES committee members that have been impacted by Andree’s actions, being mindful that these processes are oftentimes complex and highly triggering for those who have been harmed by Andree, have a close relationship with him and/or who have previously experienced similar harm. We recognize that we contributed to the growth of the SalviHistory page by resharing and liking their content, collaborating with the platform on posts and participating in the SalviHistory podcast to uplift our actions in solidarity with progressive social movements in El Salvador. Andree is part of the Central American community in Los Angeles and our LA chapter invited Andree into our organizing space and collaborated on co-hosting a workshop earlier this year. We take responsibility for our role in uplifting this platform. We continue our work within CISPES to create an organizing space that centers transformative justice and our collective healing. After staying inside for 4 months, a few weeks ago we took the very logical next step of handing in our notice, and throwing all of our belongings in storage in order to become digital nomads* for a few months 🤷🏾‍♀️✨. E a r t h q u a k e I wrote these words above in the middle of last night wide awake from adrenaline after hovering over my sleeping daughter like a lioness mother, as the Earth and our house here in East Los Angeles were shaking quite strongly for about ten seconds (these then seconds felt long) And as I know that with us people it’s not so much about the THAT than the overwhelm about the HOW I added the below, aware that I’m likely missing the most obvious points. But you know it’s important to remember daily to start somewhere, and that if everybody would do something, it would have the massive impact we all dream about 💚 Ways to preserve our MOTHER EARTH Anyone can implement NOW ~ Take a bag with you when you go for walks and hikes to pick up trash that you see along the side of the road ~ Wash your hair less frequently ~ Switch to paperless bills ~ Use a Refillable water bottle and Coffee/Tea Cup (to go) ~ Use recycled paper, consider your napkin use and anything that is plastic and disposable (like shaver) ~ Use dishwasher (only if full) vs handwashing dishes ~ Significantly limit your beef intake (to 1 x week, or less or none at all if you can) ~ Recycle glass don’t throw it in the trash ~ Donate your clothes and consider clothing swap with friends if you’re tired of your Outfits ~ Turn all the lights and unnecessary electric devices off when you leave the house and at night (heat, a/c, wifi...) ~ Turn off water when brushing your teeth ~ Walk more and ride a bike (consider vintage or 2nd hand) ~ Eat and Shop locally and seasonally ~ Hand- down your children’s clothing, toys, and things like car seats and strollers ~ begin a simple Reiki / Mindfulness / Self Contemplative / Meditation practice today - @laraelliott1 on Instagram
