- Got this from my dad 2 years ago, just started working on it so I can ride. 1986 shadow vt500. I suspect it needs new coils. Replaced battery, wires, plugs. The coils are $90 each and not common. The 1986 shadow vt750 or 1100 coils are 40 a pair. Aside from mounting brackets why cant I use them?

We rode from KC to Austin for the MotoGP (2k+ miles) and took the opportunity to ride The Twisted Sisters in the West Texas Hill country. Stopped at a bend to enjoy the view.
