I am super excited to announce that I will replace temporarily Flo Mounier as a drummer for the Oozing Earth very special music of Bernhard Gander, an amazing project that include the Ensemble Modern and Attila Csihar. This is a mix between classical instruments/music, and extreme metal drumming/vocal, totally extreme, totally philharmonic, extremphilharmonic ! The show is in Vienna, Halle E im MuseumsQuartier Sunday 13th of September Being an extreme metal drummer, I really love to play extreme metal, but Ive been hoping for many years that some day, I will do something different. In the Oozing Earth project, the drumming is still extreme metal, but with classic instruments/music, and hence Im super happy that finally, such an opportunity happen. This movement gave me faith in people. Through this movement I realized that progress and liberation is absolutely possible. These images were taken the night we marched towards a government official’s home from City Hall. A surge of energy welled up in me, causing me to take the mic. I poured my soul into calling the people to unite and be stronger together. And in that moment after the booming of my voice, I, a gender non-conforming man, made an unlikely friend; a Black, cis-gender, heterosexual gang member. For me, it was the most surprising friendship I’ve ever made in this entire movement. He pulled me in for a hug, end expressed the respect and love he felt towards me. I was left almost speechless, the only thing I could say was thank you. I felt like my message and experience as a queer man resonated with listeners. I felt heard, understood, respected, embraced. Which made me even more amped up in the march. If that doesn’t scream possibility and progress, I don’t know what does. My point in saying this experience is that we can’t give up. There is hope, there are amazing changes and unexpected connections happening among us. We just gotta be consistent and patient for things to fall into place. We all have the capacity to take the time to understand those of different backgrounds. This past weekend we told the real history of Bruce’s Beach and celebrated Black leisure. Bruce’s Beach was a Black resort community that was created by a Black woman in Manhattan Beach. The City of Manhattan Beach unjustly forced the Bruce family off of their land and out of their thriving beach business during Jim Crow. All that’s left is a park with an inaccurate plaque on what used to be a beachfront haven for Black leisure. This beautiful brass band was our Greek chorus and @iamdamonturner was the emcee. We marched to the beach where @madamkateri led a ritual for us to honor our ancestors with flowers. Manhattan Beach may have expected a typical Saturday, but reclamation can be disruptive. This is exactly what I imagine us doing every weekend if Bruce’s Beach still existed: swag surfing, chanting, and swimming in the ocean. What an eventful weekend, these past few months and into summer have been. The best 4th of July I’ve ever had yet. All thanks to my beautiful big sis and loving friend this woman has been a huge blessing in my life. I’ve had such the honor to go deeply with who we are and what we’re set out here to do. I hadn’t seen her since the new year dancing at the house of blues with some fly girls and now to reconnect once again half a year later to dance and perform for HER this time came full circle. I can go forever and write a whole book but shows how much life really is an amazing journey through all your adversities you find peace and clarity, stillness through the chaos, as well as dancing to the beat of your own drum. You find different avenues and ways of life, people, places & things (previous post) to grow and create more a better life that you deserve. I grew out of my comfort zone and learned how to love in a way that I never had love myself and others before. Especially with my first love — DANCE. Who I thought left me but I had to leave it. I was losing myself in a way that I had never thought I could. A whirlwind of my own inner battle and emotions, things that resurfaced and have yet dealt with personally to move forward and understand who I am. I thought I had to say goodbye but more of see you later, to heal and reveal what was truly going on inside of me. Shit was real and even more real than ever. Oh my goodness, I’m about to keep going but this is only a part of me. I’m just so thankful to have another chance at life, or is it being saved? Maybe letting go, maybe dying or near death experience and I came back in another form. All I know is dance is within me.. she is half moon and half sun. Taking her sweet time to let life unfold through the unveiling, and having a better understanding. She’s just barely reaching the surface but have worked so damn hard and there’s more to come ✨ Thank you again @flavorfulsoul for having me not just by your side but in your life and sharing your world as we collide together.
