Been posting some old works while I create new ones. This ones from 2011(ish), when I first started experimenting with cutout figures. The image of the climber in this was based on a photo of one of my climbing heroes, John Bachar (RIP), during an ascent of a boulder problem called Midnight Lightning. The iconic photo of John climbing at Camp 4 in Yosemite was taken by photographer Phil Bard, and Im honored to have a copy of it that’s hung right next to me in my studio for years. I painted this image of John everywhere at the time. Was my way of keeping my heart close to climbing while I began new endeavors. I wonder what John wouldve thought about it all, though Im sure hed have something to say about the spotters I put below. He was a beast. - @joeiurato on Instagram
