Right after the pandemic started I was interviewed by the New York Times about my reactions as a photographer. I said I thought I had a good idea to imitate Harry Callahan”s distant but loving portraits of his wife, Eleanor. I went out with a view camera to photograph friends in my community, .from a long way off, to see if I could still capture feelings of intimacy. I had nowhere to develop the film and the project petered out pretty quickly. I just recently started looking at them and one thing is for sure, you can’t get that kind of intimacy in a tiny picture on Instagram. - @ohthattimdavis on Instagram

I took this photo on the 8th day of my winter trip to Zion this past February. It was a chilly evening along the Virgin River, and I loved the experience of composing this photo while listening to the sound of the river. At this particular bend in the river, a large sandstone wall catches late afternoon sunlight, which reflects off the surface of the water.
