Such a great day of training with the @risen_warrior_syndicate family. Got my ass handed to me, and realized I’m a terrible pistol shooter at long distances. However the point of training is not only to get better, but to point out our weaknesses. For those who aren’t familiar with the rest of the recruitment process for graduate nurse programs in Melbourne, all hospitals are doing (or about to do) reference checks/contact our referees regarding our progress/performance as nursing students during clinical placements. Referees play a significant part when applying for graduate nurse programs. . Next, hospitals will rank their shortlisted candidates based on the quality of their applications and it includes, • our interviews • resume + cover letter • academic results • clinical appraisals (clinical placement results) • referees’ reports/comments (Don’t think I’ve missed anything) . And then when October swings around, we’ll all find out if we’re matched to a hospital or not. . I hope I explained it decently well. Concentrating on uni’s been quite challenging, especially when we were going through that part of the grad year app process - but we are soldiering on💪and staying strong (or trying to). . Tienes que preguntar, investigar, ver reseñas y hacer un enorme trabajo de introspección... no sólo para aclarar tu presupuesto, si no para saber exactamente qué necesitas y para qué lo quieres. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ En el mercado existen muchísimos modelos con precios y especificaciones diferentes. ¿En qué te tienes que fijar? Lo primero, el sensor. Hay varios en el mercado actualmente pero, tecnicismos aparte, tendrás que elegir entre básicamente dos: el Full Frame y el APS-C que son digamos, los más comunes. El primero, como su nombre lo indica, es un sensor de formato completo que equivale a una película 35 mm. El segundo, es un sensor bastante más pequeño y genera un factor de corrección que incide directamente en la óptica que deberás elegir. Tomando en cuenta lo anterior, en una cámara full frame, un lente 50 mm es de ese tamaño, pero en una APS-C equivale a un 75 mm, por ejemplo. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ En cuanto a la óptica, soy de las que piensa que se debe invertir en buenos lentes. No importa que tengas la cámara más cara y con las mejores prestaciones. Tienes un lente malo, la imagen no será buena. En el área de video, puedo mencionar Rokinon y Samyang como mis marcas favoritas. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Otro dilema: Reflex o Mirrorless. Las primeras usan un sistema intrincado de espejos, siendo más grandes y pesadas, y las segundas no. Son más compactas y delicadas. Muy delicadas. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ La resolución, el formato y el códec son muy importantes a la hora de elegir. El primero se refiere al tamaño final del video (HD, Full HD, 4K), el segundo al tipo de archivo generado y el tercero a la compresión usada. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Y por último, que tan manual es la cámara elegida. Tienes que poder manejar todo a tu antojo y conveniencia. No sólo lo básico: iso, velocidad y apertura. SWIPE, there’s 3 photos Aiight so boom, I’m gonna pick on myself a little bit to make a point and I truly hope my message reaches those who need to see this. Let me start by saying “you don’t know what you don’t know”. In these photos from 2016, 25 year old Tig was a brand new firearms instructor. I did a ton of photo shoots to convey the message that black women can and should carry and learn how to use firearms. The problem with these images is that I’m breaking safety rules (1st and 2nd photo) and I have an improper two handed grip (1st and 3rd photo). My thumbs should be forward (it’s better, just trust me), my fingers should never be on the trigger and I shouldn’t be pointing my firearm at the viewer. I’m also holding two firearms (2nd photo) which is HIGHLY impractical for real life. It doesn’t matter that I know none of these firearms were loaded. “Perception is reality” and if it looks like I’m being unsafe, then I am. To the untrained eye the photos look cool and are attention-catching HOWEVER my responsibility as a firearms professional is to present proper firearm safety and handling techniques. Every day I see cute photos of men and women using firearms as props (not really mad at this). The issue is the unsafe and improper handling of firearms in these photos could confuse those who don’t know better. I don’t want anyone to look at me breaking the safety rules or using a trash grip and think it’s ok. As an instructor, how can I use a photo of me breaking safety rules to advertise firearm safety classes. Crazy right? Anyone who posts photos holding or using firearms has the responsibility to make sure they’re doing so properly. So if you see something wrong, politely and respectfully say something because sometimes people just “don’t know what they don’t know”. Today was just another day to most. Another day of unknowns and another day of (insert any 2020 meme) But for me today was special. • Today marks 2 years since officially taking over @crossfitkaiju. Kaiju has been apart of my life for almost 7 years. I wasn’t sure there would ever be anything to rival my love for baseball (in walks Kaiju). And has it ever. All I wanted to be when I grew up was a baseball player. Nothing more. That was it! The pinnacle of success and all I wanted. • Now ask me? A true Goat!! I’ve know Alex since we were 14 years old, he has always been one step ahead of the crowd. Whatever he does he does it to the absolute limit and then some. To say he has been an inspiration to me would be an understatement. From snowboarding when we were teenagers to filmmaking as a career, I always admired his dedication and relentless hard work. Axl was diagnosed with brain cancer in May and underwent a massive surgery in June to remove 80% of it. Over the next year he will be doing radiation treatments and chemo to battle the remaining 20%. Trusting my gut, following my passions & getting out of my own way...three things I’m working on and three of my toughest challenges. I discovered recently that I am a people pleaser to the max. That’s why I got into a client based business...that’s why I theoretically want to tell people’s stories...to make the viewers and the subjects happy. But lost somewhere among my good intentions is a perpetually unsatisfied need: to control people’s perception of me and to ultimately be liked. So what does this have to do with my business? Everything and nothing...Even though I just started I feel like I have already gone down a path that may not end in the place I ultimately want to be. So this is all to say that I am going to switch gears a little bit and work on some “me” stuff. I’m going to be busy...but it may not result in immediate pay off and that’s okay. Ohhh, I got some panties in a twist yesterday with my story about carrying even if you have a spouse 😳 So let’s have a little chat about that... Guys, your spouse being able to protect themselves is not meant to emasculate you or demean you. It’s simply allowing them the opportunity to protect themselves, regardless of if you’re with them. My story had nothing to do with attacking masculinity, it was about empowerment and standing up for yourself. Ladies, unless your man is glued to your side 24/7, he isn’t always going to be there to protect you. That’s something you need to take responsibility for. You need to be able to protect and defend yourself, and your family, should the need arise. That doesn’t just mean having the tools to protect yourself, it means being aware of your surroundings, being vigilant to situations you are putting yourself in and the types of responses that can arise from said situations. To take that a step further, what happens if the day comes where your SPOUSE is the one that you need protecting FROM? Here’s a few statistics for you: - 1 in 3 women in the US (and 1 in 4 men) have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. - 1 in 4 women (and 1 in 7 men) have been victims of severe physical violence (e.g. beating, burning, strangling) by an intimate partner in their lifetime. - 34.2% of Florida women (and 24.6% of Florida men) experience intimate partner dating violence, intimate partner sexual violence and/or intimate partner stalking in their lifetime. Making the decision to be able to protect yourself, and making the decision to be prepared for a worse-case scenario doesn’t mean you’re automatically setting a relationship up for failure. It means you’re being smart in a country, and world, where violence is prevalent. You aren’t asking to incite violence, but you’re giving yourself leverage and potentially an out for if it does happen. Personal protection is just that. Personal. If you want to discuss it, we can. 18 weeks down. Atleast 18 more weeks to go. When I started training for my first Tactical Games competition, I shared that 3 month process with you in snippets and added that to my story highlights. When I put myself through my 5k running program, I shared that 2 month process with you in snippets and added that to my story highlights. When I started my back rehab, I started sharing that process with you in snippets and continue adding that to my story highlights. I share my processes because the last thing I want is for you to see the beginning of a process - followed by the result - with no understanding of what happened in the middle. The middle is where the work gets done, where discipline overruns motivation, where shit gets knocked off course, and where the results are produced. I am now 18 weeks into my back rehab process and most likely have atleast 18 more weeks until I can start adding intensity back into my workouts. It’s a freaking process. It’s not an overnight fix. But - next year when I’m competing again at the Tactical Games and you see the highlight reel of that challenging weekend competition - you’ll have a grid for how I got myself back to that point in the form of atleast 36 back rehab snippets. If you want to - show people your process. Doesn’t need to be the whole thing.
