On this day, 1 October 1931, hundreds of tenants of an estate in Neukolln, Berlin, launched a rent strike to pressure their landlord into evicting the SA: Nazi Brownshirts. However, most of the tenants were on welfare so could not actually withhold their rent and so eventually the strike crumbled unsuccessfully.
