Change, balance & plum torte 💛 Sometimes, it can be hard to know when the season has changed in UK! A hot day can give way to wintery cold at a moment’s notice. But we are definitely heading into fall, there is a shift in the air, a little nip. The colour of light has changed. My toes demand that I wear socks in the evening! Just like change in season, changes in our lives can produce an emotional tingle ((I think I just invented this phrase! And I like it) We all have our ways of coping with the emotional tingles, some of us turn inwards, others throw themselves at the world. For me, finding the balance between running at the world and turning inwards is the key to dealing with changes, both small and large. But there is no perfect combination to deal with all situations. You have to feel your way towards finding balance in each situation; to ease the emotional discomfort. Which brings me to balance in photography. Just as in life, the balance in photography is important. Your photographs should have a sense of balance but there is no simple formula, like the rule of thirds, to know when your photograph is balanced. You have to feel your way towards balance. With practice, you start to see the balance in your photography. Seeing a well balanced photograph always induces a sense of ease in me. This photograph is one of my favourites: it’s very balanced which I find extremely pleasing, it comforts me. Find your balance, friends, in life & photography 💛 How do you find balance? Over my Shoulder I’m slightly late this morning. 5am start for a dawn workshop yesterday and then met up with my old pal @stewyphoto for a wee blether and then had an even longer blether with @jasonhudson142 - loads to do but what can I say? I love talking. Like my Dad used to say “he only talks once”. And who says nostalgia isn’t what it used to be. I think between us Jason and i had enough stories for another series of Life on Mars. Or was it Ashes to Ashes. One of them anyway. I should have been knackered but when I woke at 5am this morning I checked the Steamers webcam. It was completely black. Which is what you might expect at 5am I suppose. But if it’s a normal morning you can see lights from a couple of buildings. If you can’t that means there’s mist. So I tonked downstairs - ripped some bits off yesterday’s £1.60 yellow label whole cooked chicken, threw them in a roll and bombed down to Ullswater from a flat wander and an explore. Did I get anything? Maybe, maybe not. This picture is actually from the other day and is the reverse view of the one I put up on Saturday. Always look over your shoulder. Sometimes the view can be gorgeous in both directions. It’s probably a slightly softer and more romantic edit than I might do normally. But that might be because I’m a lovely mellow romantic kind of man. I’m certainly soft. Early this morning I had a text to say that the Covid test was negative. My instinct told me it wasn’t Covid, it didn’t seem different enough to me. But I had to get my daughter a test as it’s the only way she’ll be let back into school - the ticket back into school is a negative test result when she was having cold / flu / cough symptoms. So we had no choice but to apply for a test. This negative result was a relief, I’m very used to taking on more problems and issues and I’d totally accepted this was another challenge to move through with as much grace as possible. The relief was much bigger than I had envisaged. Blubbing tears. Which tells me I’ve been holding in a lot of tension. Which reminded me that radical self acceptance means that you accept even the parts of you that resist acceptance. No part of you needs to be rejected. Your anger, frustration, fear and your sadness get to be held in compassion, right beside your joy and calm. When we abide in compassion we contain multitudes. Self compassion develops our ability to self-soothe, and this is about strength and stabilisation rather than avoidance. Self soothing and self acceptance of all feelings doesn’t eliminate distressing emotions or pain. Our soothing system makes difficult experiences tolerable and allows us to respond effectively without harm to self or others. We are never broken, no matter how it feels. The shift needed is from focussing on WHAT we think and feel, to, HOW we relate to what we think and feel. ♥️ - - - A walk in the forest away from people, partly it’s preferable and secondly, even though we’ve had a negative result, I still don’t want anyone getting this cold virus and having to also book for a test or having any concerns about what it is. 🍓 زیبایی و رسیدگی به مو، موضوعی بود که این یک سال برای منی که تصمیم گرفتم بذارم موهام بعد از چندسال بلند شه، مهمتر از قبل شد. چرا که باید دقت میکردم که موهام در سالمترین حالت ممکن رشد کنه. از روزی که اومدم تهران، نرگس جان دل، تنها کسی بود که تمام این مدت، کوتاهی و رنگ موهامو با خیال راحت و آسوده سپردم به دستهای بینهایت هنرمندش. اول چون کار کوتاهیش به جرات لنگه نداره و دوم کار رنگش که همیشه از چیزی که توی ذهنم بوده یه کار دلبرتر، تحویلم داده و من با افتخار و عشق دوست دارم که نرگس خوش ذوق و‌ سلیقه رو بدون منت بهتون معرفی کنم و ازش یک دنیا تشکر کنم که همیشه استادانه از موهای کوتاه من نمره بیست و دو گرفته. بعد از اون نوبت رسیدگی بیشتر به موهام بود تا توی سالمترین حالت ممکن رشد کنه. پس تصمیم گرفتم که به جای تکرار یک راه حل عمومی، به موهام با موادی که به جای شوک و ترکیبات شیمیایی، بیشتر مواد طبیعی و‌گیاهی داره و به سالم ترین حالت طبیعی خودش میرسونه، رسیدگی کنم. الان بعد از چند ماه سپردن سلامت موهام به عاطفه جان دل، متوجه شدم که موی هر فرد، مثل هر عضو دیگه بدن، احتیاج به مراقبت متناسب با آسیب و‌ جنس مو و‌ دوره درمانی منحصر به فرد خودش رو داره. دقیقا مثل اعضای دیگه بدن، که برای مواقبت و یا درمانش سراغ متخصصش میرید، مو هم از این قائده استثنا نیست. عاطفه جون، به تضمین من،به شدت در زمینه پاسخگویی به سوالات شما با حوصله هستن پس با خیال راحت میتونید بهشون پیام بدید و ابهامات خودتون رو در باب این موضوع، کاملا برطرف کنید @hairbynarges_ @thalgo_ocean7 . #hair#breakfast#photooftheday#photography#love#photography#art#artist#haircut#hairstyles#artwork#selfcare#beauty#blogger#artofvisuals#brunch#friday - @aidin_ashkani on Instagram

Stranger days.... Water Hyacinth in their dawn parade with the tide and wind down Little Carencro Bayou or on some maps Little Carrion Crow Bayou. I believe Carencro may be the Cajun French word for a vulture. I got to visit this bayou just north of Fourleague bay in Terrebonne Parish a few years ago and it is in a unique place, perched between the growing land at the mouth of the Atchafalaya Bay and the quickly disappearing marshes and cypress swamps to the east and north toward Bayou Black where we came from. - @rushjagoe on Instagram

Heres something a bit different. I am excited to finally launch my new series of images (12 images). These somewhat impressionistic style images are views beneath the surface, with a feel of Monet’s famous Water Lily series. This collection is a series I was inspired to do quite some time ago, while swimming dreamily among the water plants in the sun drenched shallows. Some of you I have known for years yet only now are you sharing the fact that you have struggled with anxiety for years. Some of you I have never met, yet still you’ve written and shared your experience openly. If my posts, these images, and the story behind them helped you to open up about the condition then I a can’t tell you how touched I am and proud of you for speaking openly. I only spoke about my experience to print vide context for this work. Please don’t think that by finding a way out of Anxiety that I have achieved something extraordinary. It is still with me lurking in the background but I have managed to recognise it, manage it and overcome it. YOU can too! Anxiety and depression CAN be overcome. Help is out there, share what you’re feeling openly and open up to accepting help. There’s no more weakness in anxiety and depression than there is in toothache or a migraine! Something in the world around us is causing us to break emotionally, millions of us. Just like something in the air is giving millions of us Asthma and breathing difficulties. Hey, Marina here 🙋🏻‍♀️ What a mental 24hrs. If you havent been following my updates on my personal account (@botaniquemagique) you may not be aware that this account was disabled by Instagram for over a day by mistake. They made the audacious claim that I was violating rules by impersonating someone else, which is just ridiculous. I have always abided by Instagram rules, always credited photographers and never once claimed to be anyone I was not. I had to appeal, and then that first appeal got rejected. But having the stubborn streak that I do, I decided to appeal for the second time in a day, this time making it clear I would take further action if the account wasnt reinstated. It worked! 10 minutes later I received an email saying your account had been disabled by mistake. It really got me thinking over the past 24hrs how much Ive enjoyed running this page for the past 3 years, and how gutted I would be if all my hard work, and your collection of photos were to disappear forever. We may be a small page compared to some of the other igersuk communities, but you are such a lovely group of people, always supporting each other, making new friends and of course taking brilliant photos! I am glad this situation has had a happy ending. Social media is a fickle and frustrating thing - the good always seems to come with the bad. But onwards and upwards! Ive not revisited this scene since but Im certainly interested to see how it looks in its green summer gown. I suspect that the winter season is ideal for this scene and the choreography that I wanted to capture in the swaying branches. I love the smaller tree in the background - appearing to look upwards in confrontation. Our feature tree has already whipped another into submission. 21.08.2020 // heather season is my second favourite time of year, its like a late summer version of springs fruit blossom. I love seeing the hills turn purple. Im still conflicted about Instagram, and after 2 months away I feel like a stranger here too. I really miss seeing your photos and artwork, and I miss chatting about cats, passing seasons, pretty light and bread. I dont miss the clickbait algorithm though, and Ive quite enjoyed rewiring my brain and rediscovering my attention span. Facebook has taken some small steps towards tackling misinformation and hate speech these past few months, but I still dont feel entirely comfortable using their apps, including Instagram, as theres still a long way to go. I wrote and published an essay on my personal blog about this a month or so ago, so if you fancy a read you know where to find it. Anyway, heres a photo of the heather at Surprise View near Sheffield last Friday. The Dark Peak is one of my favourite parts of the country, its always magical to get up there in late summer. Golden . As some of you may have seen on my IG stories, I took a couple of hours off work on Monday morning to go for a wander in the mist. . Im pleased to say, it turned out to be a very good decision. I hadnt been out with the camera in a while and the combination of amazing conditions and gorgeously photogenic landscape took me completely by surprise. Being a Monday, I had the place to myself as well. . Whilst wandering, I found myself spontaneously bursting into a smile for no other reason than it was a wonderful morning to be out. I was on a high for the rest of the day! . This was one of my favourite images from the morning.
