TEN years ago today, I gave into my then 5 year old daughters pleas to adopt a 4 year old chihuahua named, Mini. I didnt want a chi, solely based on my stereotype of the breed, but this chi wanted my daughter. They were insperable! Mini had been saved by a no-kill rescue from being relinquished to certain death at the local pound in Wichita, Kansas. Eight years later, Marcelo entered our world and despite his fear of her, Mini was overjoyed to welcome another tiny human into her life and the rest has been well documented for all the world to see! Despite my efforts 10 years ago to get Mini adopted at adoption events, Im so glad Macy was secretly telling interested people that she wasnt for adoption. They were conspiring against me and thankfully no one adopted her before I relented! Someone said Mini is 1 in a billion and while I agree, there are SO many Minis literally dying in shelters just waiting on their second chance. Chihuahuas are the #2 most euthanized breed in pounds. Sure, some are kid hating chompers, sassy, yappy, defensive and rightfully scared out of their minds, but all they need is the right match, patience and love and youll quickly be addicted, like us! Dont be like me and stereotype her breed or any others in shelters. All they need is love and a second chance. The day the rescue director saved her, it was only possible for her to do so because someone had just adopted from her rescue which opened a kennel for her to go to the pound to save more. Precisei consultar algumas vezes durante o isolamento. Numa das vezes eu estava justamente precisando conversar sobre Vicente, queria saber o que o doutor me indicava para diminuir o tempo das telas. Eu já comentei aqui sobre como Vicente mergulha profundamente nas fantasias, ainda espera pela Fada do Dente, Coelho da Páscoa, Papai Noel. Nesse dia ele falou agora você sai e volta, que era para eu encontrar meu filho, sem bigode. Vicente também precisou de terapia e foi ao Dr. Fábio Lemos, que parece comigo, mas usa bigode. Ele não gostou muito de fazer terapia, não, acho que a conversa ficou séria demais pra ele. Eu perguntei se ele ia novamente ao psicólogo e ele disse que achava que não precisava mais. Espero não ter criado um trauma. Será ótimo ele fazer terapia quando adulto. A gente precisa utilizar muitos recursos nesse isolamento. Acho que Vicente tava precisando de relaxamento. Esses dias sugeriu que pelo menos uma vez por mês a gente ficasse um dia sem planejar nada, nadinha. Vamos só acordar e viver o dia. Comer o que tiver na hora que tivermos fome, decidir o que fazer ou fazer nada de acordo com o movimento não previsto do dia. Definimos que seria no último sábado do mês, mas Vicente tava com uma tarefa atrasada e então recombinamos para amanhã. Ai, gente, tô nervosa! Será que eu consigo? I find it so interesting that truly out of NOWHERE I start missing her, I look down at the date on my phone and realize another month has ticked away since she passed. 7 months yesterday. I LOVE that this pic just popped up today with her in it. The virtual hug from her I needed. I feel like I am constantly being reminded during this time how precious and how fleeting life is. To not just say “don’t take any moment for granted,” but to really live by it. To be in it. To embrace it fully with grace for yourself and others. In all seriousness though this boi has been in a lot of pain over the last few days and we’re so grateful that we caught it when we did because obviously we initially thought it was food poisoning which just was not the case at all. And to clear up his recent Instagram post, he is not in hospital because of drugs. He was referencing the drugs that he was put on for the operation, but in the state that he’s in he clearly forgot to make that clearer 😂 Just wanted to thank everyone for all the nice messages you’ve been sending him, and I’m sure he’s making his way through them now in his sleepy state 😂 Go send him more love because it will do wonders on his ego. ☀️10 years ago today Logan & I passed our 1st therapy team evaluation and began a journey volunteering with @thedogalliance that changed my life. Treys Grandma, who we were very close to, had just been admitted to the hospital for the final time after a 2 year battle with cancer. Just a few days before, we had all gone grocery shopping and she cooked us dinner. She still mowed her own lawn & drove her Chevy Tahoe. She would spend the next 6 weeks being transferred from hospital to nursing home to hospice care and back again depending on how stabilized she was and what the rules of Medicare dictated. Anyone who has been through this understands the stress it creates within a family. The experience strengthened my resolve to brighten this world and give patients & families brief moments of relief through pet therapy. The first visit Logan & I made when we got our acceptance letter was to our family & Grandma at Hospice Austin. It was a powerful experience. She passed away just a few days later. Little did I know that less than a year later I would have a health issue of my own that would force me to give up a huge part of my life - Scuba diving. Logan was again instrumental in helping me through this and volunteering at hospitals, schools, nursing homes, addiction rehab, and libraries allowed me to focus on other people instead of myself. 🚀Rocky then followed in his paw prints and we racked up a many fun volunteer hours very quickly at hospitals, child protective services court, the airport, college stress relief events and more. In all the years we served as a pet therapy team I witnessed the amazing power a dog can have to heal, and comfort, and teach, and bring joy. Today I’m sending a huge thanks to all the hard working pet therapy teams out there getting creative to provide support during this pandemic chaos. 💕And another shoutout to our own pets at home providing personal therapy, especially during these trying times. I basically lost my mum, in the process of getting a restraining order, changed my mobile...And now Im waiting to find out whether or not the meth head who read ended me caused my car to be a write off. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and today our Lotteries business made a $500,000 donation from unclaimed Golden Casket prize money to the Children’s Brain Cancer Centre. Launched last year by @childrensorgau, it’s the country’s only dedicated paediatric brain cancer research centre. With brain cancer killing more Australian children than any other disease, the money will support life-saving research, including innovative new therapies. The donation will help children like four-year-old Ava. She was diagnosed with brain cancer aged two and has already undergone a number of intensive treatments and operations. First Blake... Now Pumpkin! 🙏 Shes a precious mini horse that we rescued from starvation 5 years ago with her love, Sammy, a stunning mini stud. Pumpkin was pregnant but lost her baby due to malnutrition. Sammy was gelded & doing great until he passed unexpectedly over a year ago. Pumpkin along with all of us, were devastated. She was doing great until she foundered last night. She gets no grain, no treats & little grass so we were shocked. Shes stalled with deep bedding & is restricted to eating soaked hay. Shes obviously hurting when she walks so is spending lots of time in her cushy stall until we get her condition under control. #pray4pumpkin Pumpkin will require extended vet care, specialized farrier care & lots of shavings to keep her stall soft for her feet.
