Occupying an extraordinary seafront lot, Niemeyer strived to maximise the views throughout. By placing the bedrooms, kitchen and garage on a two-level curved volume, he achieved a very transparent living room which is directly connected to the pool house via a river, a beautiful landscaping gesture. This extension took advantage of newly built service quarters featuring a garage that was sutilly added in the lot, barely visible in the current composition. COVID Can Mimic Acute Stoneless Gallbladder Attack Two case reports from Switzerland show that COVID-19 can mimic acalculous acute cholecystitis and is associated with SARS-CoV-2 in the gallbladder wall. Along with the typical upper and lower respiratory symptoms of COVID-19, attention should also be paid to extra-respiratory manifestations of the disease, Dr. Christian Toso of University Hospitals of Geneva told Reuters Health by email. Acute abdominal pain can also be a preliminary clinical feature of COVID-19, he said. The findings suggest that clinicians should be aware of this type of rarer presentation, especially in areas of high COVID-19 prevalence, and primarily direct patients toward conservative, non-surgical, management, considering the fatal outcome in one of our patients. Dr. Toso said, The presence of SARS-CoV-2 in the gallbladder wall may result from a direct pathogenic effect of the virus on the gallbladder. Larger series are required to determine the incidence of abdominal presentation in patients with COVID-19, and further investigation is needed to better understand the suspected direct pathogenic impact of the virus on the gallbladder. After a 4 month gap, we are excited to host our next exhibition at the gallery, ‘HoreScope’ on the 9th of July 2020 which brings together a range of works by acclaimed artist Somnath Hore. • Art was Hore’s expression and it came from life, compelling in its horror and its terrible beauty. Sketches, sculptures and prints took the vast canvas of human suffering and reduced figures into masterful lines and strokes of distortion, contortion and loneliness. The viewer of his work may notice the brilliance of his techniques but they come away with a memory that has seeped under their skin: human faces and bodies that have shed all detail and become gaunt, hollow, wounded, stitched together in despair, stabbed by life, and reduced to a silent, lonely appeal. • We are open for viewing by prior appointment only so don’t forget to call or write to us before visiting. A beautiful picture of a cell we injected today in my lab with a fluorescent dye. This is a Broad thorny retinal ganglion cell (species: common marmoset/callithrix jacchus), a type of neuron located in the retina. These neurons help provide us with our sense of sight and are involved in a number of complex processes mediated through our visual neural circuitry. Cells like this one are involved in processes such as “visual pursuit” which guides our eyes as they focus on different or moving targets. For reference, this cell has a diameter of approximately 300 um, or about 3/10 of a mm. At Cobble Hill Cinemas the safety of our guests and employees is our top priority every day. While health and safety standards and procedures are followed on a daily basis at Cobble Hill Cinemas, we wanted to make you aware of the extra precautions we’re taking to ensure everyone stays healthy during this time of heightened concern about Coronavirus (COVID-19). What we are doing: We are closely monitoring daily updates and recommendations from the CDC. We are sanitizing seat armrests, and cup holders during theater cleanings before every show. Gloves are being worn by all staff. Every night our end-of-day cleaning team is disinfecting all hand-contact surfaces in guest-accessible areas (armrests, door handles, counters, railings, faucets). In addition to nightly deep cleaning, our theaters are increasing the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting all high-traffic areas throughout the day. Door handles and box office counters are being disinfected every 30 minutes during business hours. A 39-year-old woman underwent epilepsy monitoring for differential diagnosis. During video-EEG a reproducible, time-synched, bilateral 5-Hz frontocentral theta rhythm was present while text messaging on her smartphone (figure 1A). This pattern appeared only with active texting (figure 1B). The texting rhythm is a recently recognized EEG pattern reported in up to 22.6-24.5% of adults. It is related to cortical processing associated with personal electronic devices. Brief durations occur with abbreviated texting as brief as several seconds. Electroencephalographers need to be aware of this novel waveform in order to distinguish it from an abnormal epileptiform pattern or evidence of cerebral dysfunction. Shrine Empire presents, The wound is the place where the light enters you for the 4th edition of IN TOUCH with works by Khushbu Patel, Neerja Kothari and Samanta Batra Mehta. Exhibition is now live at Artintouch.in @artin.touch These words by Rumi, which informs the title, capture the dilemma of our times when malady has become a part of our daily existence, pointing us towards wisdom and magnificence instead of receding in to our pain. Perhaps such suffering is where we are able to rebuild, and find the way forward. The artists whose works are presented here embrace the rhythm and beauty behind the scars that they carry. Khushbu Patel dives into dermascopic views of the scars on her body, almost as if they are splendorous organisms to be nurtured and embraced, despite frequently being shunned, for they are one with her being. Patel’s microscopic visions acquire macroscopic realization in Samanta Batra Mehta’s drawings that imagine human existence in symbiosis with botanical forms embodying nature that both hurts and heals through a wondrous cyclical relationship. Neerja Kothari borrows from repetition in physiotherapy that she underwent for years while regaining movement in her body, and also the Pomodoro technique, which builds restorative care into everyday work, cognizant that endurance and recovery are overlapping concepts. These healing processes inform her mark making, orchestrated at fixed times, with regular intervals, almost as if advised by a doctor’s prescription. The Spring 2020 RISD Architecture & Brown University Advanced Studio “The End of Color” is a search for a deeper engagement with color in relation to architecture, embracing its inherent instability and spatiality. Here are my practices of the past few days. Considering the many building sites of my drawings I decided to tackle some step by step, starting with improving my understanding of architectural stuff. Therefore I read through some books and draw from those. The pencil drawing of a capital is based on a photo from a book about gothic architecture, the simple ink sketches (lines mit as clean as Id like them but that a bit difficult atm). At least gothic architecture is fun to draw. I started a separate sketchbook only for this and probably will start anotherone for human anatomy and figure drawing. So, yes, its four sketchbooks then (a small one for ink and pencil sketches whenever I have time whereever I go and the watercolour sketchbook). Cities are hardened to death and disease. Six per cent of Chicago’s inhabitants died in the cholera pandemic of 1854; an outbreak in Hamburg in 1892 killed 8,600; the Great Plague claimed the lives of 100,000 Londoners — almost a quarter of the population — in 1665-66. The metropolis was traditionally dingy. Those who evaded bacteria and viruses had to take their chance on the streets — London knife crime is not new: it accounted for 56 per cent of murders in the medieval city. As of yesterday morning my ASE wall was finally hung! I wish I had details of my lithographs to share, but for now here are details of one of my drawings. Come see the product of my final year at PAFA in person starting this Saturday, 9/12, until 10/3, in the Hamilton Galleries at PAFA (new building, Broad St entrance). . Finishing this work has been unbelievably challenging both physically, and mentally. Finally seeing the work on a wall instead of my bedroom floor made the project feel complete, and the vision feel fulfilled. I am so blessed to be able to share this work with all of you. I am immensely proud of this work, and grateful to God for providing time, strength, and resources, and for connecting me with the right people to bring it to life. One of the first works I made when I moved to Los Angeles is this series of SHARED NAPKINS (2007). I proposed to different groups of friends to share one single napkin over a meal. Laughs and jokes always followed my request but I do not recall anybody refusing to participate. At the time, I was very much interested in mapping affect while rubbing against social norms that dictate “acceptable” physical boundaries. I can’t help but keep thinking about this work in times of social distancing.
