On Friday September 11th, 2020, we pause to remember the events that occurred on September 11, 2001 and the lives lost on that fateful day. As we pause to reflect on the 19th anniversary of that day, we encourage everyone to remember the unity that came upon our nation in those following days. Due to the unfortunate COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be conducting an in- person ceremony but instead we invite everyone to take a moment to remember those lives lost. The last week of July has been a hot one! Luckily the work is so fantastic, we dont mind being outside at all! Having the sun beating down on you all day isnt something that many tradesmen are accustomed to. It takes a toll on the body, mentally and physically. During this time focus becomes more difficult for everyone. Many carpenters struggle to prioritize tasks, delegate the work load and maintain a steady effort throughout an eight hour day. As the recently renamed Associated Bank River Center (previously known as the Milwaukee Center) receives an update, the RiverWalk segment that runs next to it will also be getting updated. The RiverWalk will receive new decorative planters, benches, lights, while the western portion of the building that fronts the river, will also receive an update. The building that fronts the river will add a new second-floor balcony and rooftop space that will provide outdoor dining space. Six trees that have had a difficult time growing along the river will also be removed, and due to this, the RiverWalk will be able to grow in width. 쓰레기 문제 전문가인 최병성 목사님께서 쓰레기 문제의 큰 부분을 차지하는 것이 건축쓰레기라는 말씀을 하셨었습니다. 생각해보면 국내 건축물들이 짧은 주기라는 건 알고 있었지만, 이 부분에서 쓰레기 발생이 많아진다는 걸 연결지어 생각은 못했던 것 같습니다. 노무현 정부때 분양원가공개, 후분양제가 도입되었다면 아파트값 고공 상승도, 쓰레기 문제도 줄지 않았을까 하는 아쉬움이 남네요. 사진, 아래 기사 출처 - 머니그라운드 2006년 주택산업연구원에서 발표한 자료에 따르면 국내 아파트의 콘크리트 강도는 210~270㎏/㎠ 수준이었던 것으로 나타났다. 주택산업연구원은 콘크리트 강도는 아파트의 수명을 좌우한다며 해외 아파트 콘크리트 강도도 공개했다. 아파트 수명이 긴 미국 아파트의 콘크리트 강도가 400~500㎏/㎠를 유지하고 동남아도 300~400㎏/㎠에 달했다. 준공된 지 20, 30년 지날 때마다 재건축을 진행하는 것이 단순히 시장논리가 아닌 이유다. 전문가들은 1977년 도입된 선분양 제도도 한국 아파트의 수명을 낮추는데 한몫했다고 말한다. 선분양제로 돈을 받은 뒤 건축을 시작하면서 건설회사가 제품 경쟁력보다 원가절감, 이윤 극대화를 추구할 수 있게 되었다. 때문에 선분양제는 신축 아파트에 금이 가거나, 각종 하자가 발생하는 일이 끊이지 않는 원인으로 지목되고 있다. 건설업 관계자는 “30~40년 뒤에 어차피 허물 것이라면 굳이 100년 버티는 설계를 염두에 둘 필요가 없다”라고 말했다. 건설사는 아파트 수명이 짧아야 일거리가 생긴다. 다만 이미 재건축된 아파트들이 규제 한도에 맞춰 신축되어 이전과 같은 수익성은 보장할 수 없다. 수익성을 높이기 위해 건설사가 자재를 전반적으로 하향시킬 가능성도 존재한다. 업계가 한국 아파트의 수명이 쉽게 늘어나지 않을 거라 보는 이유다. - @greenbliss7 on Instagram

With empty highways, airports & offices, critical infrastructure projects around the United States were completed ahead of schedule, more efficiently and cost effectively. ⠀ ⠀ 📍 Unexpected access to large segments of the street at a time accelerated work on @metrolosangeless subway extension project by at least 6 months... ⠀ ⠀ 📍@delaware_gov was able to complete multiple highway projects worth a total of nearly $100 million during the first half of 2020... ⠀ ⠀ 📍 @my_fdot announced in April that it would expedite more than $2 billion worth of critical infrastructure projects...⠀ ⠀ There is no silver lining to the pandemic. Theres still much to be done to improve our economy and our countrys infrastructure in the wake of this years unprecedented disruptions. on 9/1/01, i woke up to a call from my mother, groggy on my first day off after 7 nights straight waiting tables, telling me not to leave the house bc a plane had just crashed into the wtc. it was the fall after graduating from college, the last summer days before i tried to find a “real” job. there was no social media at that time and even texting was relatively new. it was an ALL CAPS shift in time. almost 20 years later, every time i get on plane to nyc (which used to be often) a wave of fear comes over me- there’s not a single time i fly that i don’t think about 9/11 and the people that died and their families. every time i visit the new wtc for meetings, i take a photo like a tourist. it’s completely inspiring and it never ceases to amaze me how resilient human beings are- capable of healing and rebuilding. it’s overwhelming, and almost incompressible in some ways, to stand under or inside of it. if we could get through that, we can get through this 🗽❤️ 🇺🇸 #vote - @danameyerson on Instagram

Yesterday, a small group of Ironworkers, and the family of our fallen brother, Sergio Cruz, gathered to honor his legacy, and place our token of remembrance on the last piece of vertical steel to be placed on the building where he lost his life! While it was good to see my friends, and do my part in setting the wall, I will never forget that day, and I will always have a hole in my heart from the loss of my “Mexican Squirrel Brother!” I have not yet met an ironworker who is man enough to fill his boots, and can only hope that every ironworker that ever met him, will keep him as a role model! Hutchies’ Castle Residences project recently undertook the first phase of the truss installation weighing almost 60 tonnes! The trusses were installed 67 metres in the air off the side of a lift core. These trusses form the backbone that allows the next 25 levels to cantilever out 12 metres over the 142 year old heritage-listed Porter House building below. The careful planning of the truss delivery took 12 months to coordinate to ensure it was a success, involving oversized loads and overnight CBD road closures. The remainder of the steel structure will be installed over the next 4 weeks bringing the total weight of the truss structure to over 150 tonnes! It’s here! 🏊🏻♀️ The world’s first ever sky pool was lifted into place in @embassygardens in Nine Elms today, having travelled across the world from the US and undergone rigorous hydrostatic testing - with safety factors more than 20 times more extensive than what would be carried out on a typical pedestrian or road bridge structure. The pool is suspended between two blocks of flats at over ten stories high. Once completed, the deck is set to incorporate a bar and restaurant run by @darbyslondon , sun loungers and a footbridge. The much-anticipated SKY POOL has been lifted into place at Embassy Gardens today, by one of the largest mobile cranes in the world. The crane has a load capacity of 750 tonnes. The acrylic structure has undergone rigorous hydrostatic testing: safety factors 20 times more extensive than what would be carried out on a typical pedestrian or road bridge structure. The pool has travelled over 1,000 miles by road from Colorado to Galveston in Texas, before making its 3-week journey across the Atlantic Ocean, reaching its final home. The acrylic spans 14 meters (pool is 25 metres total in length), ten storeys high, between two apartment buildings.
