A little different post than normal. You may have noticed that we use photos from @kenhub_official. We found their company on YouTube first, their content is out of this world. Check them out all you Movement and Anatomy nerds, especially the students. We reached out and asked if we could strike up some sort of partnership, if we could pay for rights to use their images in our courses and also when we post on social media. In a day where we are over and over seeing others steal content, it was important to us to make sure ours is always posted with permission. Almost always, our posts are applied anatomy. Not just origins and insertions but application to the fitness athlete or to movement in general. But this graphic and their description was too great to pass up. Needless to say @movement.physio learned our Cranial Nerves before the Harry Potter era. We were today years old when we read this updated mnemonic: On On On They Traveled And Found Voldemort Guarding Very Ancient Horcruxes. Good sleep is essential to your health, & an important part of your overall well-being. Studies have found that people who ranked their quality of life very good or excellent slept an average of 18 to 23 minutes longer than those who considered their health & quality of life poorer. We don’t often think about our spines when we’re lying in bed. But our sleep posture can help determine whether or not we experience back pain. Certain sleeping positions can help ease back pain, so find one that is most comfortable for you. Try sleeping with a pillow between or underneath your legs for extra support. If you sleep on your side, put the pillow between your knees & draw them up slightly toward your chest. If you like to sleep on your back, try the pillow under your knees, or roll up a small towel & place it under the small of your back. Avoid sleeping on your stomach because it puts a lot of strain on your back. If it’s the only position you can fall asleep in, put a pillow under your stomach to take some of the pressure off your back. Majority of sleep research has been performed in whites of European descent & very little sleep research has been done in Black & Latinx communities. However, based on the available literature & the high prevalence of risk factors in Latinx & Black communities, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, depression muscle pain, stress, living in the inner city, & use of alcohol, the prevalence of important sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea & sleep habits such as poor sleep hygiene are suspected to be, unfortunately, high. Everyone deserves the right to proper rest & sleeping health. I hope these sleeping positions info can help improve you or your loved ones sleeping patterns.
