Stephen Knapp has been making work that is transformed by light for over thirty years, producing vibrant light installations he refers to as paintings. These large-scale works utilize minimal tools, harnessing simply light and dichroic glass to throw a multitude of colors against the walls and room. The installations are not sketched out beforehand or programmed by computer, but rather created during the installation process as Knapp moves intuitively to choreograph his intricate light patterns. “The fun of what I do with light, is that there is nothing in our visual memory that prepares us for what I’m doing,” said Knapp in a short film about his work. “The fact that what I create can just be done with light, that there is no paint on these panels, is absolutely astounding to people. What I am trying to do most of all here is challenge any traditional notion of perception. What is it? Is it real? Is it not real? Does it matter?” These works have been featured in solo exhibitions around the country including the Boise Art Museum, the Chrysler Museum of Art, the Naples Art Museum, the Butler Institute of American Art, and the Flint Institute of Art, among others. For the ultimate funky disco event we created our own “GFUNK” television network filming our own episode of Soultrain! We transformed every aspect of the venu into interactive areas so everyone was in on the fun. For the dance area we brought in custom programmed LED dance floors and synced them to our sound. We built custom staging with custom lighting installations synced to the DJs. We added Vintage TV walls playing funny and strange Tv ads from the 70s, wardrobe stations and tv staged filming sets so you really get like you were on a live network broadcast. Exhibition “Tape Art by TAPE THAT” Client: FunDesign.tv Design: @tape.that It took approximately 7,000 cuts to finish the exhibition “Tape Art by TAPE THAT”, which received a Red Dot: Best of the Best in 2020. The artist collective @tape.that makes art with tape and foils and thereby transforms plain spaces into aesthetic and fun areas. Inside the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei, the designers created different installations and exhibited over 40 tape paintings from 13 July until 1 September 2019. Working on-site, all artists included the spatiality in their themes which range from Camouflage and illusion to mirror house and night-view corridor. The visceral response provoked by the light and audio along with reflections of one’s self viewed ad infinitum aimed to playfully warp ones sense of time and space. Ayer 29 de agosto el Imperio, un pick up de los sectores populares, de la periferia, de las poblaciones cercanas al centro amurallado, se convirtió en el primero en brindar un concierto de este tipo en el teatro Adolfo Mejía, escenario que hace parte de la tradición histórica de Cartagena. Estos pick ups (o picós) nacieron como una expresión cultural del mestizaje de nuestros ancestros: los afro, isleños y negros. Comunidad que hoy representa la mayoría de nuestro Corralito de Piedra, pero que aun así muchas veces son excluidos de estos espacios de intercambio sociocultural. ¿Cuántas veces han sido ocupados estos sitios por los afro para este tipo de eventos? Sin embargo, lo hecho ayer representa un hito para la ciudadanía del común, que tambien tiene derecho a festejar en los lugares que sus ancestros y ancestras construyeron.
